Worse off?? Even with those predicted incomes??

floellabenjaminsearrings · 14/01/2015 09:52

Did that sheet just say they had only 4 years left to pay on their mortgage?

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 14/01/2015 09:52

Living costs are much higher in Australia though. So salaries need to be double uk salary to have the same lifestyle.

I actually have friends in secret harbour, where they viewed a house and whilst they don't regret moving they say they were very naive about the costs.

They both work longer hours and have less annual leave. Their children are teenagers though and are having a whale of a time and so the mum and dad won't come back because they moved to give the dc a better life.

I can't believe they are still considering moving when they will be £300 a month worse off!

susiedaisy · 14/01/2015 09:54

I do think it is the kids and grandkids that would benefit from the move. Not the parents so much. Future generations that come after them will not know any different

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 14/01/2015 09:56

is it me or is Nicki Popidol the most annoying woman presenter ever??

Sparklingbrook · 14/01/2015 09:57

No it's not you Muddha. Sad Bring back Nadia. Except she's in the CBB house. Sad

EatSleepRaveRepeat · 14/01/2015 09:57

I just paused the TV he earns 5300 a month after tax Envy I tempted to ship DH off for 10 months a year to earn that

susiedaisy · 14/01/2015 09:59

Ok over to the FB page to see where they are now Grin

iseenodust · 14/01/2015 09:59

Worse off but with her only working half-time instead of full-time.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 14/01/2015 10:01

in the 80s my folks were frantic about nuclear war and secretly planned to move to NZ to escape being vapourised by the Russians

we found out and went NUTS

they didn't do it though because Dad wasn't in a required profession

imagine if they had, though. I would prob be married to Jemaine out of Flight of the Conchords by now

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 14/01/2015 10:01

LOL eatsleep

Horsemad · 14/01/2015 10:09

None of them were particularly emotional during the Friends & Family bit were they? Her mum got a bit choked at the end, but everyone else just normal.

Hillingdon · 14/01/2015 10:11

What a difference in the house value. I love it when people disagree with the house values. The house will go for what it's worth. My FIL has a friend who has had their house on the market in Cornwall for nearly 3 yrs. He insists its a good price and they are happy to 'wait'.

Hillingdon · 14/01/2015 10:15

Did they go? Cannot seem to see it on the BBC website

Hillingdon · 14/01/2015 10:16

Actually I take it back. He is on a good salary and she has options to work! Sorry! However his salary means he has to work in a war torn country so not sure whether its worth it.

She thinks its worth it though....

Vagndidit · 14/01/2015 10:17

I'd imagine after so many years of waving dad off "goodbye" they've developed emotions of steel.

Actually a nice change from the last week of emotional blackmail and sobbing.

Vagndidit · 14/01/2015 10:17

They're applying for visas and house is on the market, so it looks like they're off.

Hillingdon · 14/01/2015 10:19

Just found it. Looks like they are still planning to go. She was never going to let her dream go.

Did like that last house though, not so bad cleaning it though. Oz has less carpets then we do and I know the Americans think we are mad to have carpets in hallways etc when hard floor is so much easier to keep clean.

PestoStormissimos · 14/01/2015 10:19

update here

antimatter · 14/01/2015 10:48

Just watched the program with the single mum nurse.
I wonder if they are going to move.
She keeps forgetting that in 3-4 years time all kids should be fairly independent and her money worries would lessen.

LegsOfSteel · 14/01/2015 11:27

This is the one family so far who I think "Yes you should go". If the Dad wants to stay in his line of work it sounds like Oz is ideal. Working abroad for 10 months a year sounds shit.
They would be better off. Dad could apparently earn the same as now (£5300 pm after tax - wow!) and Mum could double her salary or work part-time for a similar amount to now. Either way they will be better off - either financially or time wise. Go for it.

LegsOfSteel · 14/01/2015 11:32

Lol @ Muddha. Flight of the Conchords is hilarious.

Davros · 14/01/2015 21:35

I wish they would show them going out shopping, with the trolley and maybe buying what they want and then seeing how much it costs. I'd also like to see them go out for an evening, maybe meal and cinema. Just because it would be more entertaining and interesting than watching them read a piece of paper

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 14/01/2015 22:20

That's a fab idea

Specially if you got someone like my ex who habitually used to yell HOW MUCH in cafes etc and feign cardiac arrest

Davros · 14/01/2015 23:21

And my DH who would have to buy 5 types/brands of mustard every shop and then also yell "how much?!" Grin
