Soooo...anyone warming to the new doctor after a few episodes?

Just watched the episode from 2 weeks ago (I know, catching up, sorry!) and nearly cheered when Clara got cross with the Doctor, stormed off and told him to go away. I have been wanting to do that since the first episode. Even DH muttered 'well he WAS being a twat'. He WAS wasn't he.

Maybe it's the writing but anyone else think actually the new doctor is just being a bit of a twat and not actually being very nice to anyone (redeeming feature and would excuse twattery a bit)

I hate more the more I watch. I think he's horrible.

The other Doctors could be blunt, cruel, what have you, but were still charming.

This one has no charm.

I like him. There's something a bit Greg House about him.

It's the charm. You're right, there isn't any. There's always something a bit ruthless about the Doctor, but he's always got a heart. This one just seems cold.

He is a twat but I prefer him to Matt Smith. I quite like his insecurity.

I think he is wonderful!

There is a kind if stillness about him that chills me to the bone. And you really get the feeling that he's been around for 900 odd years, and there is so much sorrow there.

And he is funnier than all the others put together.

I reckon he will be the best. And I really liked all if the other 'new' doctors.

Yeah, accept the 'old soul', he does have a wisdom about him. But he still isn't very nice. Why would anyone want to travel with him? Which is why it was good that he got a bollocking from Clara. However the following episode hardly referred to what seemed a fairly catastrophic tiff...so maybe it is the writing after all.

There are no sparks of joy either, all the others have had that slightly madcap thing and find delight in stuff.

I think he's great!

I much prefer Clara with him. With Matt Smith there was far too much madcappery going on. We'd all pretty much given up watching. Capaldi has his own tics, but he doesn't sort of "whirl around" all the time like Smith used to. God, he got on my nerves.

I like him too. I have felt they have been too keen on establishing the Doctor rather than on plot in some episodes but the orient express episode was great

I really like him, as a doctor. As a partner or friend he'd be out on his ear though. It isn't the brusqeness, it is the timing and downright rude, judgemental twatishness. He shouldn't be getting away with it. It isn't making sense.

I do agree that the Orient Express episode was good.

And that's also what it is, YeGods, along with not having charm, he's just rude for the sake of being rude.

He'd fit right in at AIBU, actually.

DH and DS are the Dr Who fans here but my DS said he wasn't going to watch it on Christmas Day hyperventilates into a paper bag.

He sounds sometimes like Tom Baker ( The Dr Who IMO) so that is a bit comforting.

He is rude but there is still a little twinkle in thee from time to time. I'm warming to him.

Frank skinner being in the orient express episode just mind fucked me

I'm just a bit bored with it all (never thought I'd say that! )

But I did like the Orient Express episode and the one set in Clara's school - the rest (for me) have just been a bit 'meh'.

I don't dislike Capaldi - I find him OK as a Doctor - it's just the storylines that aren't captivating me and I feel quite about it because I've loved Dr. Who since I was tiny!

That's exactly how I feel, LemonMouse. Capaldi is a good doctor, but some of the writing makes the Doctor look ridiculous, with a lack of continuity.

I'm warming to him. I really liked the orient express one and last night's brilliant 2-dimensional universe episode. I liked his line of "please just let me enjoy the feeling of not knowing something for a change". I like that he's not always a nice person. That he makes it clear that saving the world sometimes means being cruel, heartless, a liar etc, and he's a more morally ambiguous hero than previous doctors.

My husband has a theory that he is trying Clara to be a timelord. Not sure how that would work!

Last night's episode was brilliant. But there's their entire SFX budget for the next 1,000 years!

Clearly, poltergoose, you have no memory of Colin Baker's doctor! That's exactly how I have always viewed the sixth Doctor.

We loved the 2D/3D episode too. Very clever..

I suppose it's difficult with any regeneration to find a Doctor that will be as popular as the last one ans to also establish him quickly.

Personally, I think they are spending too much energy on the establishing bit and just need to get on with some decent stories
