Soooo...anyone warming to the new doctor after a few episodes?

Just watched the episode from 2 weeks ago (I know, catching up, sorry!) and nearly cheered when Clara got cross with the Doctor, stormed off and told him to go away. I have been wanting to do that since the first episode. Even DH muttered 'well he WAS being a twat'. He WAS wasn't he.

Maybe it's the writing but anyone else think actually the new doctor is just being a bit of a twat and not actually being very nice to anyone (redeeming feature and would excuse twattery a bit)

I think he is fabulous. Clara is so much better with him than she was with Matt. Loving this series.

Ir1na · 19/10/2014 17:42

I think some of the storylines recently are a bit too silly, but I don't have a problem with him. I was a bit Shock when Clara told him to f*ck off far away though!

Can't stand it now, not just him though, Clara is hideous too and the writing is shocking. I've not even bothered with the last 2 eps. I'll just wait till they get rid of them to watch again.

LemonMousse summed it up for me. Another lifelong fan here (60s baby!) who feels disappointed.

The other night I nodded off on the settee and woke up to catch the end of The Doctor Dances. It was wonderful and really brought home to me that there now seems be a missing ingredient somehow. Christopher Eccleston was brilliant of course so he was always a hard act to follow but I've still enjoyed Tennant and Smith in their own way and always looked forward to watching. Now I wouldn't be that fussed if I missed it.

KitbitAgain · 20/10/2014 07:11

2D episode was better but he's still too cold for my liking. But the story concept was much better.
The only bit that interest me is the running theme of the black haired woman who seems to be collecting dead people and watching Clara. But even she looks too much like the eyepatch woman who was in the background with Matt and Amy, so it had better be different and not a poor imitation of a previous story

I was getting bored with it as well, but the last two episodes were just head and shoulders above the rest.

DoctorTwo · 20/10/2014 07:54

He's my new favourite Doctor. The next best is obviously Tom Baker. Capaldi does the Doctor with a Bakeresque flourish with a touch of 'look at the lining' Harry Hill stylee. Until Saturday I loved him but hated the scripts. Flatlines was the best script in the series so far, hopefully the show can stay at that level.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 20/10/2014 08:11

I really didn't like him at the start.

I watched The Mummy on the Orient Express yesterday (which means I'm 1 episode behind, I think) and it was the first one that I thought "Oh, this is interesting. I'm not disliking him anymore". I do think it shouldn't take so long for one actor to fully encompass the role but he is growing on me.

For me it would take one hell of a Doctor and companion to make me forget about David Tennant & Billie Piper. They were just brilliant. Even though Christopher Eccleston set up the role for DT to take over, I thought the chemistry between the Doctor and Rose was just brilliant and very very hard to beat!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 20/10/2014 08:12

LemonMousse is bang on the money in relation to the story lines too. Nothing is grabbing me to the same extent anymore...

GilesGirl · 20/10/2014 08:15

Clara is so much better with him than she was with Matt.

Definitely!

Mrsjayy · 20/10/2014 10:50

I like him I don't like him with clara there is to much conflict and confusion between them. The he is old thing is getting boring Matt smiths Doctor was quirky and hid a lot of his angst peter capaldi is letting it out. I will be glad When clara leaves we can see him a fresh (god sake I take Doctor who far to serious)

Mrsjayy · 20/10/2014 10:52

We hated the orient express episode liked Saturdays though

Mrsjayy · 20/10/2014 10:54

He reminds me of Tom Bakers Doctor Who . I love that pc is such a DW geek he has been waiting on this for years probably

Pagwatch · 20/10/2014 12:24

I love Peter Capaldi and I really really am trying to like him as the Doctor.
It's just all too much like hard work. The script clunks under all the Doctor/Clara history stuff - all the angst and the dull boyfriend in the background [sigh]
It's impossible to get involved because there is no warmth, no heart to it.
I'm holding out hope because Capaldi is do awesome but I'm sitting down because I want to like it, not because I actually do.

Mrsjayy · 20/10/2014 13:10

I am blaming moffat his stories are shit

Mrsjayy · 20/10/2014 13:12

I think once Clara leaves it will get better I like clara but they don't go together.

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 20/10/2014 13:15

I sort of agree. I like Clara better with PC however the whole series seems to be gearing up for her to go and it's too much about that and less about the stories.

GilesGirl · 20/10/2014 13:22

Oh Moffat totally can't write well. I have no idea how he even has a job some days!

And as I think back on all of the rolls I've seen Capaldi in, he seems to play the same sort of rough and ready, take no prisoners, spare no words, be as rude as possible sort of person.

He was definitely that way in Thick of It, and in Musketeers (although I only watched an ep or two of that, it was so dire in general) and sort of in Torchwood, although a bit more mealy mouthed in general in that.

I think he can act. I just think he's been type cast now, thanks to Thick of It.

Mrsjayy · 20/10/2014 17:05

I am watching a Russel T episodeatm now he could write a story

He wrote blink which is my favourite episode ever the weeping angel s were terrifying I just think he has lost his way he could write well for DT

KitbitAgain · 20/10/2014 18:19

Yes, boring background boyfriend is a weird distraction, no chemistry there at all and all of a sudden Clara was in love.
No, the only thing keeping me is the mild interest in the heaven woman.

"We hated the orient express episode"

What is wrong with you? It was the first episode in this series that had a great plot without trying too be too up it's backside clever.

Saturday's episode was excellent as well.

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 20/10/2014 19:47

Agree, bunbaker. And my kids are fascinated by Missy at the end of the episodes..

GilesGirl · 20/10/2014 19:50

Okay, I'll concede Blink.

But even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
