What to watch next? If I love The Good Wife, True Detective, OITNB

We don't have a TV but use Netflix and various illegal websites to stream programmes. At a loss at the moment about what to watch next. I love The Good Wife, Nurse Jackie, Orange is the New Black, most BBC good quality drama mini-series etc. DH loved True Detective (which I enjoyed too), The Wire, The Shield. Gosh, it sounds like we're hooked on US programmes, which isn't true at all. We both love really good British stuff, older stuff like Foyle's War, House of Cards (have seen new one too), newer things like The Fall.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Mad men?

LightastheBreeze · 24/08/2014 20:43

I have just started watching Utopia, missed it completely when it come out. First series is on Netflix and second is still on 4OD

tribpot · 24/08/2014 20:45

Suits (oh and White Collar which I forgot to mention) are both on Netflix, as is Castle.

teachermummy2b · 24/08/2014 20:48

Hugely recommend Love Hate - is irish - rte maybe? SO SO good. Watch it.

Iggi999 · 24/08/2014 20:48

I have just main-lined two series of Scandal on Amazon prime so I can start watching series three on the telly. Very good .

Wobblestones · 24/08/2014 21:06

Halfway through the first episode of Scandal. I'm not feeling the love! Those of you who loved it: did you enjoy it right from the start? All seems a bit overwrought and unbelievable. Hoping it improves as I think DH is going to veto watching a second episode unless it picks up.

Trying Suits tonight - like it so far! Thanks tribpot

First session of Scandal is so-so but stick with it.

Luther. Great show.

Shopaccordingly · 25/08/2014 22:15

Homeland?

NeedaDiscoNap · 25/08/2014 22:19

Damages on Netflix is amazing. Glenn Close and Rose Byrne are the leads and each series has a main character played by an unlikely actor - e.g. Ted Danson/Martin Short/John Goodman. It's ostensibly about a litigator, but is about so much more and very dark. I love it, almost at thr end of series 5 and devastated!

I second Scandal, although it is very polished and glossy. Have you seen Ray Donovan on Sky Atlantic? It's amazing.

Youarejustwordsonascreenpeople · 25/08/2014 22:23

Homeland is fabulous and well worth the watch. Series 1 & 2 are beyond compare but have to admit the 3rd and final series was a little so-so.

For those who like Homeland have a watch of

OP you will understand once you've seen it Grin

Youarejustwordsonascreenpeople · 25/08/2014 22:40

Castle is also a definite.

Warehouse 13

Fringe

The new series of V

Boston Legal

Survivors (12 episodes over 2008 & 2010) and The Last Train (6 episodes 1999) are worth a look if you have an odd 5 minutes and fancy something a little different.

We started watching mad men when we ran out of other stuff - I had no interest when it was on tv and thought it looked boring - we watched 6 &1/6 seasons worth in 6 weeks and now I have withdrawal symptoms - it is really great!

Wobblestones · 25/08/2014 22:52

See I loved Mad Men but DH hated it so I've only seen the first series. He works away a few nights a week though, so I might watch it with myself :)
We watched the first series of Homeland. Quite liked it, but I'm not sure if I'm keen enough on it to try series two. Never got into Damages but I've heard enough about it to give it another shot I think. Putting everything else on the list - thanks again.

Wobble DH and I were like that with The Wire. He loved it and I couldn't stand it.

Sandancer · 27/08/2014 13:09

Have you seen Top of the Lake? Only a few episodes but I thought it was brilliant. Elizabeth Moss has been roumered for True Detective series 2 so has Vince Vaughn Confused

Youarejustwordsonascreenpeople · 27/08/2014 19:31

Six Foot Under and Dexter are 2 more to watch.

Howaboutthisone · 27/08/2014 19:51

I can't get DH to watch much 'American crap' with me (his words not mine!). But he loves the good wife and homeland and is currently really enjoying Ray Donovan with me!

tribpot · 27/08/2014 20:09

I haven't been able to get into Ray Donovan. Too dark? Too 'women as commodities'? I'm not sure.

Youarejustwordsonascreen, Homeland hasn't finished. There is yet another series scheduled for this autumn. I don't know why.

Youarejustwordsonascreenpeople · 27/08/2014 22:45

Oooooooooooooh! cheers for the heads up Tribpot
