Child Genius (C4)

Anyone planning to watch this?

I was a little like these children; joined Mensa as a child, but used my ability to coast through school/university rather than to achieve anything noteworthy.

DS2 is also of this ilk. We are not doing any of the things these parents are doing, although when opportunities arise through school then obviously we let him participate.

(I have tried to make that point already joni).

JustRichmal · 09/08/2014 09:01

Not only did I think they were given a list of spellings to learn, I thought Tudor's mum was also showing the adjudicator a book of the general knowledge they had to learn, or did she taken along the Encyclopedia Britannica so that she could instantly question any fact?

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 10/08/2014 09:07

I watched this last night.

I am a hard faced bitch but I nearly had to turn off because Tudor was so sad. He is a year older than DS1. How can that total arse of a father treat him like that?

I did love Cuneyd and Rubiayat.

AyMamita · 10/08/2014 20:24

Finding this compelling viewing. Aliyah's parents are awful, and am sad for Tudor and his sister. The others seem largely OK. Love Sharon, Sophie, Cuneyd and Rubaiyyat!

Also, I have no idea what my IQ is but so far (end of episode 3) I have nailed most of the questions. Now feeling quite excited as I think I might be a 35 year old child genius Grin

CruCru · 10/08/2014 21:11

Blimey, Rubiayaat got 16 on string theory.

CruCru · 10/08/2014 21:12

I really like Eleanor, she got 9 on Queen Victorias childhood.

Labtest7 · 10/08/2014 21:12

I got the one he slipped up on...thanks to the Big Bang Theory.

IScreamForIceCream · 10/08/2014 21:13

Aww, there was something lovely about the curly red head, pre-Raphelite looking historian Kate Williams looking so encouraging/chuffed for the curly, red head, pre-Raphelite Eleanor.

17leftfeet · 10/08/2014 21:14

Did anyone else breathe a sigh of relief when Eleanor got through her questions without crying?

CruCru · 10/08/2014 21:17

Yes! My nanny made the point though that we should see Eleanor's crying as a way of her successfully dealing with stress. The other kids don't seem to have this release valve.

BristolRover · 10/08/2014 21:18

She's an absolutely charming child. She seems to be the most childlike of all of them, and therefore the most "normal", despite that perfectionism.

SlightlyJadedJack · 10/08/2014 21:18

Telling that Tudors mum said 'we' are in the final.

Lemonypeepee · 10/08/2014 21:20

I adore Eleanor. Her parents are adorable. Such a sweet girl and family. I really hope she does well.

BristolRover · 10/08/2014 21:24

oh now she really is impressive- such empathy and kindness and lack of histrionics. Love Eleanor and her non-pushy parents.

Jellypudmum · 10/08/2014 21:25

Is it wrong if mr to hope that Tudor doesn't win? Who knows what he'd be expected to achieve next?

CruCru · 10/08/2014 21:30

I liked Rayyans answer that he didn't know if he'd want to come back as the competition was too tiring.

I agree, it would be hard to imagine the expectations heaped on Tudor if he wins this. I thought the look on his face when his Mum said, "Have fun. It's been fun hasn't it?," spoke a million words.

MissWimpyDimple · 10/08/2014 21:35

I love Sharon Grin

SauvignonBlanche · 10/08/2014 21:36

Go Sharon!

SlightlyJadedJack · 10/08/2014 21:40

Go Sharon!

IScreamForIceCream · 10/08/2014 21:40

Sharon seems quite well-balanced, doesn't she?

Poor Rubiyat. How old is he?

TheFirstOfHerName · 10/08/2014 21:41

Poor Rubiyat.

SauvignonBlanche · 10/08/2014 21:41

Bless him!

This is really uncomfortable viewing now.
