What an utter, utter, utter pile of steaming shite. Worst show ending ever. I wish I'd never started watching it (apart from Barney's suits song ages ago).

I am so disappointed!

Me too, so disappointed, never liked Robin!

I thought it was crap too.

I mean someone dies in the last episode of a comedy show?? Really?!

Me neither. What a waste, poor Tracy, just an inconvenient bump in the path of tedium which was ted and robin. Blah.

It just made the whole show totally pointless.

And Ted seem even more self obsessed.

Yes exactly, totally pointless and Ted was a knob (although he always was)

If only it'd ended about 3 minutes before the point where the writers chose to end it! It really cheapened the whole relationship with the Mother - and it didn't feel like Ted would do that

My husband accidentally gave one spoiler away about the mother (THE spoiler!) and I thought that was why I felt the way that I did. My daughter had watched the series online before we got it and said she cried but I was left there saying 'Is that it?!'

I watched it online a while ago and was left feeling disappointed. There's an alternate ending made by fans on You Tube which I preferred.

So so so disappointed- I remember the end of Friends, it was all a bit "aww, end of an era". Instead HIMYM dragged a weekend out over a series (I couldn't remember what happened at the start if this series whenever it was referred to again) then raced through 15 years in half an hour.

Tracey and Ted really had other loves of their lives; I get that they were using the idea of loving more than one person but it just seemed like meeting her was enough of a cute story that Ted could romanticise to create his love story. That they never got around to getting married until later seemed so un-Ted like. Tracey also just seemed to tag along and not really integrated with the rest of them over the years.

Robin and Barney, who had finally seemed to develop as characters over the last few series, just seemed like complete arses and they parted ways too easily. Robin is a bit meh in my opinion anyway, but Barney to just revert to his old ways was a cop out, especially that he got someone pg and saw the error of his ways with his baby- it just seemed an opportunity to run through his old jokes (which were some of the best of the show) one last time.

Marshall and Lilly just didn't seem to do anything in the intervening years, apart from Marshall becoming a judge- what did she do? Could they not have had one last story line?

It also didn't show any of their lives develop really- in the flash forwards, they are at the bar, robots vs wrestlers, etc but doesn't really show them doing family things so seemed a bit contrived.

Librarybook, yes in real life the marriage thing is pretty normal but not for Ted and I don't think he would be one to go for real love doesn't need paper etc.

Agree that none of them are actually very nice people!

I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to convince DH it would be Lily who wouldn't grow up to see her daughter's wedding - to be honest if they'd killed her off and left Ted with Tracey it would have been better. I could accept one of them dying to be honest - the writers/producers have said all along that they were telling a story about growing up from early 20s onwards - sadly by the time you hit your early 40s many people will have lost someone their age from their 'group'. Killing Tracey off who we hadn't known long enough to really care about was pointless though and I don't get that Ted really should have ended up with Robin, I thought she was a much better match for Barney.

It was indeed decidedly 'meh' - we'd only stuck with s.8 and 9 because we knew it would end and the story resolve. Until the last few series the fall back plan was Ted would marry Vickycupcakes if the series got pulled, I think I'd have been happier if he'd married her rather than ultimately ending up with Robin.

I thought the last series was so tedious.

But I LOVED the the way it ended! Thought it was really clever and made things like Ted going into too much detail about Aunt Robin make sense. The Ted/Robin thing always confused me. I originally thought she was the mother until he called her 'Aunt Robin', then the too-much-detail thing started to confuse me.

Makes sense now about the locket he found for her. I thought that was really weird.

Lilly was my favourite character. But yes I suppose when you think about it, she wasn't a very nice person (the stealing, the violence).

Marshall was nice though...can't think of anything bad about him.

Library book, it definitely seemed like he was settling!

Firstly , sooooo disrespectful to your children to tell them a story about their dead mother when the theme of the story was that he always really loved someone else

Hated that barney and robin split up they should never have married them in the first place it seemed really out of place I didn't get it at all .

The pp who said Ted told the kids "never tell your mother this" !! Yes I'm sure I remember that I'm off to google !

Also if robin was out of their lives , why would they call her "Aunt" and why a few seasons ago did it show us lots of drawings they had done of them with her ??

It would have made more sense if Robin and Barney had both stayed single and been happy doing so, rather than marrying each other. Neither of them seemed to be the marrying type.

This. THIS. The last series was so tedious, then they whacked all of that into the last half hour? And the bit of her dying was literally one shot in a hospital bed then 2 mins later he was racing after Robin? Pah.

I could have gone with the storyline had they spread it over the series and really developed it, not rushed it through to a neat ending. They spent so long building Tracy up as a perfect character then just get rid of her at the last second. Unimpressed.

My husband let slip about Tracy when the episode was on about Robin's mum not coming to the wedding and a comment was made about what kind of mother wouldn't go to their daughter's wedding. He said 'oh yes, she d........'

Before that I thought it was Tracy's mum hadn't gone to their wedding! I just don't often pick up on clues.

I grew to really hate Barney and all the Lengend - wait for it - ary stuff!
