Did anyone watch this?

I only caught the last 25 mins or so but last nights program was especially thought provoking.

Obviously the producers of the show will pick the most extreme examples available in order to make entertaining/shocking TV. We don't know what % of Romanians come to Britain with that type of attitude, hopefully / likely it is very small.

However I still found it quite shocking that people can literally arrive and within weeks be claiming large amounts of benefit for family that doesn't even live here.

I don't blame them though, life in Romania must be pretty shit if coming here and living off benefits is considered the luxury option. The guy on last nights show was trying to make 40k to send home so he could build a home for his family - it seems he was just trying to best for his family, who can't identify with that.

I haven't watched it yet but have already had to politely correct a moronic fb 'friend' who was ranting about no wonder we hate 'them' send em back etc...

LongTimeLurking, yes they will have gone for those with no morals. I still stand by my thoughts it is right that the clan leader should be deported Biggles. He is recruiting, enabling and aiding people to exploit.

I agree the guy leading the operation, the 'clan leader', appeared to be helping people come over here with the sole purpose of maximising everything they could claim from the state.

However, I don't believe the law actually allows us to deport EU citizens ? unless they have committed a major crime.

But certainly the system should now allow this type of thing, perhaps there should be a rule where you have to pay in for X number of years before you can get anything out?

It isn't just the money, it is the pressure on services like GP, schools, etc. If we are going to welcome so many new people into the country we need to be investing in services, otherwise before we know it our services will collapse and everyone will be screwed.

I don't know it is a very complex situation and it is all too easy to spout popular daily mail style solutions that are bigoted and wouldn't actually work in reality.

He is taking a portion of their benefits LTL.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/07/2014 20:27

i hope someone was watching the programme who works for benefits and they stop his, how the hell was he sending back £500 then £300 to his family, he is def working and claiming

let alone claiming for his family that werent here

did feel sorry for the bloke who lost his legs/on skateboard

fackinell · 21/07/2014 20:57

I think you may actually be allowed to claim for family not in the country. A cleaner I know from Poland told me she could claim CB for her son back home. I checked this out (not to dob her in btw) and it was true.
