If there are any other Poldark fans out there you might like to know that UKTV Drama are showing the series from the beginning starting this week.

Episode 1 is on Wed at 4pm, with 2 & 3 on Thurs and Fri. Fingers crossed that they continue each week and don't dot it around the schedule.

Which Dwight did we all like best btw? I'm sure the second one played Flashman in Tom Brown's Schooldays (when younger, obv) which put me off him a bit but I can't remember what the first one was like...must check out imdb in fact.

Well, I met RE at Steve Jones's house because RE had just narrated a series SJ's partner had produced and they were having a party when it was first on TV (still with me?). CC's mother was quite grand but utterly lovely and very warm hearted.

JanH · 04/09/2006 22:34

Oh you know Steve Jones???? (Well of course you would, silly me!) What's he like? I love the way he tells things - he is so straightforward and un-geniuslike (like you )

tamum · 04/09/2006 22:36

Why thenk you He is like that in RL. If you have his first book have a look in the acknowledgments (she said modestly). I went to a party at Bush House for his Reith Lectures too, ho yes. Sadly I bit into a cherry tomato and it exploded all over me and everyone in the vicinity, not my finest moment.

JanH · 04/09/2006 22:41

Tomatoes are vicious bastards. Were you wearing something nice and pale too?

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 22:45

I saw Ian Rankin strolling around in Ocean Terminal alone yesterday morning.

Jaws were gaping.

No one said a word.

Gotta love the Scots.

tamum · 04/09/2006 23:14

I believe so Janh, yes. Quite a few people around me were, too.

Expat, he strolls around here most mornings, and you're right, no-one bats an eyelid. I see JKR quite ofetn in the shops too, people are very good and cool about it.

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 23:16

I admit, I secretly did a double take. Only to see the bloke working in Sunglasses Hut doing the same .

He whispered, 'Is that Ian Rankin?' I said, 'I think it is! OMG!'

He said, 'Has he not got minders?'

I said, 'Well, no one's bothering him, are they?'

Aye, too right, he said. I wouldn't dare.

It was cool, tho!

Wish I'd seen where he'd gone. But no way I'd have looked after he was away!

Turquoise · 04/09/2006 23:23

Ken Stott makes a bloody fab Rebus IMO. John Hanna was just plain wrong.

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 23:24

Ken Stott SO much better!

Just how I imagined Rebus.

Rankin is taller than I'd thought.

I am small and obscure, though.

This is a good thing, b/c I am not noticed.

Umm, I know the conversation has moved on and I have no idea who anyone is that you are talking about but I saw Jan's comment about the 2 Dwights and I just wanted to correct her: the first Dwight was played by Richard Morant who had played Flashman in Tom Brown's Schooldays. But despite playing a bully, he was gorgeous in Poldark - actually 20 times nicer than Ross, in looks anyway, Ross still was the tops for his voice and masterfulness.

Anyway, the second Dwight was played by someone whose name escapes me momentarily, and although I am sure he wanted to be very good at the part, he had nothing like the looks and presence of the first.

Hope that clears it up.

DumbledoresGirl · 05/09/2006 12:39

Michael Cadman was the second Dwight.

JanH · 05/09/2006 12:42

Oh thank you, DG!

That is weird because I had a feeling I preferred the first one - I must have transferred Flashman on to the second one

I have checked imdb and the other one was Michael Cadman; but I can't find any pics of either.

DumbledoresGirl · 05/09/2006 12:47

I have them all on video and had 20 mins to myself this morning so had a sneaky look at Ross. But I mustn't get involved, as I can happily watch the 2 series end to end and do nothing else!

Turquoise · 05/09/2006 22:43

I preferred the first Dwight by far. I think the second one was in Flambards? (Which was crap).
