If there are any other Poldark fans out there you might like to know that UKTV Drama are showing the series from the beginning starting this week.

Episode 1 is on Wed at 4pm, with 2 & 3 on Thurs and Fri. Fingers crossed that they continue each week and don't dot it around the schedule.

Ha ... loved Poldark but was very young and didn't always get it like my mother did. I wish it would come to UKTV in NZ ...
DS's nursery teacher was called Demelza ... When I first met her I said, "Demelza? Isn't that from ... " And the poor girl rolled her eyes and said, "Yeah, Poldark, my mum was a massive fan and always said she would call her daughter Demelza - I hate it!"

Poor girl

(I have got the DVDs from rental companies twice and never had time to watch them, I really must set aside a week for one of those Poldark orgies )

cece · 03/09/2006 22:52

oh I love Poldark

but dont think I can get UKTV Drama

robinrocks · 03/09/2006 22:52

lol JanH - have done that too in Cornwall - went to all known filming locations for the series.

I agree turqoise about the books - the later ones were much weaker.

I remember going down to the launch of one of those later books - held at Poldark Mine. OMG, looking back now, it's hilarious. As members of the Poldark Society, we were asked to dress in 18th C costume. I confess I didn't. Anyway, two people in the society were having an affair - it had been going on for ages. Every time there was a meet up, these two would disappear together for a snog/shag whatever. The man's wife would be forever running about shouting, "where's Ian, I can never find him when I want him".

Now Ian used to dress up as Ross (obviously) and his paramour styled herself on Demelza.

On my way to the ladies loos at this event, sure enough there was Ian and ahem....Demelza, having a snog and grope (God knows how the wife was oblivious, they were brazen). A woman also going into the loo behind me, said to her friend, "ooh, look, they're acting out scenes from the series for us".

Did anyone see the appalling ITV version of the later books with John someone (the baddie off Cracker) as Ross? It was sacrilege.

JanH · 03/09/2006 22:54

Rent them, cece!

robinrocks · 03/09/2006 22:55

Yes I remember that - it was pants!

JoolsToo · 03/09/2006 22:56

Robin Ellis was yukko then and he's yukko now!

JanH · 03/09/2006 22:59

Don't hold back, Jools

JoolsToo · 03/09/2006 23:00

sorry! came on a bit strong there!

not my cup of tea shall we say?

robinrocks · 03/09/2006 23:02

He looked rather good without breeches when I met him I must say (going back about 10 years now though).

I went to bed thinking of those scenes I mentioned and remembered another classic: the whole trial for inciting wreckers scene - can you tell I am a bit of a fan?! I can't believe there are people out there lamenting the fact they can't watch it - I have had the videos of the entire series (2) for years. Put it on your Christmas list!

DumbledoresGirl · 04/09/2006 09:43

here you are, don't know if the link will work directly but Amazon have them all, in stock!

cornishpasty · 04/09/2006 21:48

Another Poldark fan here, Robin Ellis was lovely! I so wanted to be Demelza as well. I've read all of the books and i've met Robin Ellis and Angharad Rees - many years ago though and i wasn't very old so only vaguely remember them.
But i do have a hand written letter, written to me personally by Robin Ellis! I wasn't very old and my mum must have written to him on my behalf! I'll have to go and find it now - can't remember what it said.

DumbledoresGirl · 04/09/2006 21:50

Oh yes, please copy it out here! (If it is not too personal!)

cornishpasty · 04/09/2006 21:58

Can't find it at the moment - it's not where i thought it was. I keep looking when i get the chance.
Think it was something to do with a cricket match between the Poldarks and the Warleggans.

JanH · 04/09/2006 21:59

That would be the one that was in my book

tamum · 04/09/2006 22:03

I met Robin Ellis once, but only to say hello to. I knew Christopher Cazenove's mother quite well when I was kid

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 22:05

Hey, tamum's about!

tamum · 04/09/2006 22:08

Hello

JanH · 04/09/2006 22:09

Hello

tamum · 04/09/2006 22:11

Hello you too Are you impressed?

kittywits · 04/09/2006 22:13

I'm a great fan too. Just love Robin Ellis. Must get round to buying the lot on dvd. Fantastic stuff.

JanH · 04/09/2006 22:13

Very impressed, tamum, although since he obviously put himself about a bit I'm wondering how I missed my turn!

Is CC's mum gorgeous? And where was he while you were knowing her?
