New thread.

I just watched this on I player (because I have nothing better to do)

The crab round was really mean, and I felt really bad about the contestants saying they felt 'ashamed' for not being able to figure out the ingredients in two SE Asian pastes and a garnish and know how to do crab properly. John and Greg are such arseholes.

Barbie should stop saying she's got such an amazing palette, especially when she thought fish, apple and curry sauce was a good idea. It's very annoying. I don't even have words for 'I'm a mummy and a teacher'.

There were an awful lot of little white jugs of sauce going on this round.

I think this is actually a screen shot of egg while he was writing done his crab ingredients.

I see we only get three episodes of the finals - I am sure that when this stage was reached in previous years there were at least two weeks for the last 10 to be whittled down?

Or am I imagining this?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 28/04/2014 16:56

It looks like we've got:

3 episodes this week to whittle 10 contestants down to five.

3 episodes labelled as the semi-finals with five contestants - tests will include cooking for Mary Beard and Terry Deary.

3 episodes labelled as the finals with four contestants - no detail yet but if that's right it's a change as it's always been three in the finals before. Maybe it's four to the first part of the first programme and then one gets knocked out? We've had something like that before.

magimedi · 28/04/2014 17:22

Still think we're being short changed!

(Love your name, Mimsy - makes me want to change to Momewraths Grin )

CalamitouslyWrong · 28/04/2014 17:26

What is the point of the second week, where one person will go out over 3 episodes? Why not just lose one contestant an episode over 6 programmes, leaving 4 in the final (one of whom can go pretty quickly)?

Just caught up on iplayer. I also thought the crab round was very difficult although I have just googled how to cook that dish and it's actually quite easy once you have a recipe! I'm going to try it next weekend Smile

I was also a little disturbed by the comments Tim made about feeling ashamed. It is only cooking. Yes good food is lovely, yes he felt he let himself down, but to feel ashamed is wrong. Sad

Can I just ask why there are so many anti-Sophie comments? I think she seems fine. Just a normal 40 something, pleasant, a nice cook and enthusiastic. The food she cooks is the kind of stuff I would happily cook for my friends and family (though it would take me twice as long!) There have been some pretty mean posts about her. Am I missing something?

Oh and samphire is lovely Smile

CalamitouslyWrong · 28/04/2014 22:05

I was really only mean about Sophie's 'mummy and teacher' comment. She deserves to be laughed at for that.

On the other hand, I've been properly mean about edd of the custard.

Bump"!

CalamitouslyWrong · 30/04/2014 19:13

Apparently, in addition to cooking in a restaurant, there's an invention test tonight. I think it's a choose from this table of ludicrous produce affair, rather than a bloody box though. And we're getting a proper chef in for some judging too.

Just finding my place for tonight.

Apparently they will be cooking for paying customers tonight not the usual ones that loiter around posh dining rooms waiting for a free dinner.

beanandspud · 30/04/2014 19:54

The Edd pictures are funny though. Sorry Edd.

CalamitouslyWrong · 30/04/2014 19:56

Whenever I catch the end of the one show it makes me very glad I didn't have to sit through it all.

Halsall · 30/04/2014 20:02

Why do they look so shocked when they tell them where they're going? Haven't they watched this show before? Hmm
