I love this. The editing is a bit annoying with all the close ups of them pulling faces, but I do enjoy seeing chefs actually cooking. And their terrified looks at the prospect of Marcus Wareing Grin. This is not the effect he has on me Wink.

Oh, no, no, no. You can keep Marcus. I really think he is too full of his own importance.

I'll have Tom Kerridge. Grin

I love Mr Wareing and his twinkly eyes and hairy arms. I am aware that he would harshly judge all my manifold faults however.

I am addicted to Great British Menu. I really find Aktar up himself but his dishes did look pretty amazing compared to the other chef, Mark.
The best bit is the judges round - I love hearing them slate the dishes. You never really know whether they will love it or hate it. Also, bring back more d-day veterans as 4th judges. The guy who was on the week Emily won was such a lovely old chap. I bet he was thrilled to bits to be invited to something like that.

Aktars pudding looked very celebratory , think that would be a good way to end the banquet.

I'd go for Marcus wearing too but Tom could bring me chips Grin

Raahh · 06/05/2014 19:33

it must be a very narrow brief- given that almost every week has featured at least one 'dig for victory' and a ration box.

I'm waiting for the judges at the end to go 'ffs, again'

Don't like the contestants this week- lots of sniping.

And if I hear 'talented newcomer...' again Grin

Raahh · 06/05/2014 19:34

(At least i know who you are now CL ) Grin

Raahh · 06/05/2014 19:39

arrghhhhhhhh!

'talented newcomer'

Raahh · 07/05/2014 19:43

Today, he's a determined newcomer. By tomorrow, will he be disappointing newcomer? Grin

Coulsonlives · 09/05/2014 18:53

We watch in bulk so only done mon/tues this week. Watch other 3 tomorrow probably.

LIZS · 09/05/2014 18:54

Fed up with it shifting around the schedules Hmm

Raahh · 09/05/2014 19:15

LIZS I agree! really annoying. It's like they are really not bothered about having viewers. It lucky I keep it recorded on Tivo.

Rather liked the fact they sent them both through this week, well deserved after their good scores. That main course of Tom's looked a bit of a mess to me, but it obviously tastes delicious.

OP posts:
LIZS · 09/05/2014 20:46

I suspect they felt both outclassed previous weeks' winners in technique, imagination and adherence to brief.

typedup · 09/05/2014 20:53

Wonder if they fiddled the scores to achieve this...?

I'm a little bit in love with Phil Howard!

Coulsonlives · 19/05/2014 07:09

I liked the chocolate medal pudding.
Quite impressed at lady who was a pilot in the war too.

typedup · 19/05/2014 10:46

They were very polite to each other this week, rather nice really. Phil Howard is great, it did make me smile every time he said they hadn't hit the brief because he was rubbish at that himself.

OP posts:
Coulsonlives · 19/05/2014 19:54

This weeks chefs aren't gripping me.
Pink apron/baseball cap/ Michelin stars.
Food looks promising though

Oodlives · 21/05/2014 20:00

Not convinced on today's scores. Def not a 10 there, not meeting the brief!

Raahh · 26/05/2014 20:45

Hmm I didn't like Mary Ann last year, but felt sorry for her because everything seemed to be about her age.

But she is so rude. It's clearly her manner, but she annoying me.

This is the first year where the same themes have cropped up over and over again. Didn't think the brief would be so restrictive.

Bets on someone doing 'Dig for Victory' again tomorrow? Grin

FiveFingerDeathPunch · 26/05/2014 22:09

oh I am so glad you said that. She is VERY annoying

TheWave · 28/05/2014 19:32

Any more beetroot? Rabbit? Or should that be rarebit hoho.

Raahh · 29/05/2014 19:58
Hmm

I don't think anything Maryann has made has been worth putting through.

I get the feeling they had to put a woman through- and Maryann, we're surprised too.

lurkingfromhome · 30/05/2014 07:56

Mary Ann looks essentially like a really good home cook. Her food is so different from everyone else's in its lack of cheffiness that she seems to have wandered into the wrong programme. Not saying it's a bad thing to be a really good home cook, or not as cheffy and faine daining as the others, but you wonder why she was picked to be on the programme in the first place when she's not doing banquet-type food at all. Are there just no other chefs in Wales? Can't imagine that to be the case...

LIZS · 30/05/2014 07:58

thought it was amusing she said she did a banana curry 20+ years ago, yet it was her food that looked retro. Seems a bit of a given who will go through tonight unless she ups her game.
