Anyone watching? I think it's good so far!

I'm enjoying it too! It's filling a Call The Midwife/Downton Abbey hole!

WetAugust · 06/04/2014 21:44

Sorry, it's awful. Why does the beeb insist on giving us depressing Sunday night series

Sleepyhoglet · 06/04/2014 21:48

A bit slow- should have watched endeavour with dh.

KnockMeDown · 06/04/2014 21:55

It's not depressing - it's poignant and moving, and very appropriate for the World War One centenary.

Cue melodramatic music

NoMoreMissusNiceGuy · 06/04/2014 22:01

Oh that nursey is BAD! Hiding that chap's marching orders [shocked]
And, and ... the cake!

I may have been shouting at the TV Blush

Panzee · 06/04/2014 22:05

Oh man that was boring. Is that what midwife and Downton are like? I'm glad I've never watched them either.

PennySillin · 06/04/2014 22:05

I knew she hadn't given that cake to the chaps!

mrsminiverscharlady · 06/04/2014 22:07

Can't believe that was Kerry Fox as the sister who kept the cake!

Cocolepew · 06/04/2014 22:08

I liked it, that Sister is a bad un.

Armi · 06/04/2014 22:11

I loved it. I also thought it was 'poignant and moving' .

KnockMeDown · 06/04/2014 22:15

Well, I don't care what any one else thinks - I thought that was brilliant!

OP posts:
Moln · 06/04/2014 22:15

Didn't capture my interest. Which is a shame, as I need something!!!

Cherrypie32 · 06/04/2014 22:21

Thinking it might improve as weeks go on.

OddFodd · 06/04/2014 22:39

I really enjoyed it. It was an establishing characters episode. That Kerry Fox is a wrong'un. You have to have a hate figure - it's obligatory!

Nennypops · 06/04/2014 22:40

Just worked out that Kitty was played by Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter. Coo

I think it's right that it needs time to develop. The first episode is inevitably mainly for establlshing the characters.

MrsJohnDeere · 07/04/2014 12:58

I enjoyed it.

MarthasHarbour · 08/04/2014 22:21

Yes i enjoyed it too. Lets face it WW1 wasnt exactly a giggle was it?! so it wasnt going to be all fast moving and Downton ish.

I will be keeping with it - i was cross with nursey for making the poor shell shocked soldier go back to the front, and had a little tear for Suranne Jones wishing her beloved to stay alive Sad

Bunbaker · 09/04/2014 21:00

I loved it, and can't wait for the next episode.

Groovester · 09/04/2014 21:39

Loved it too. Great cast. It has a lot of potential to be fab. First episodes are always about establishing characters and setting and I thought it was well done.

onedev · 09/04/2014 22:09

I've just watched it on iPlayer - I enjoyed it!

guineapiglet · 10/04/2014 14:35

I was expecting it to be original and gritty but was downtonesque and very sanitised. Testament of Youth, years ago was a wonderful adaptation of Vera Brittains book...these seems the usual predictable Sunday night stuff. Shame.

Bunbaker · 10/04/2014 22:01

I hope they repeat Testament of Youth this year.

I didn't think The Crimson Field was sanitised. I expect it will become a lot more gritty in the weeks to come.
