Hi folks, surprised Fed beat Djok in Djok's manor, only two sets as well.
Had an utterly fabulous time :). Turned up at the tournie on Thurs, presented tickets - only to find out they were for Friday
. Was really embarrassed but we ended up having a lovely day, walking along the front past the casino, having lunch in the harbour looking at the supersize yachts, doing a spot of shopping (well, more a spot of window shopping and "look at the price of this" shopping).
My old school friend met us at the hotel on Thursday night for drinks, and took us out to dinner (I think it would be only honest of me to say here that I had significantly more drinks than ds1 or school friend - for the nerves you know). He also gave us passes for the VIP village in the tennis, and tickets to this luxury car show that was on in town (which unfortunately we didn't have time to go to).
So yesterday - saw Wawrinka v Raonic - I wanted Stan to win but have changed my mind about Milos. Have forgiven him for cheating against Pot now and felt r sorry for him yesterday - there was virtually no crowd support for him. Then saw Rafa v Ferrer. I know Rafa didn't play too well, but this match was like something out of a higher quality tournie than the previous one. The power and doggedness from both was utterly breathtaking. The atmosphere was thrilling too - surprisingly, plenty of support for both men, lots of cheering, feet being drummed on metal floor of the stands, gasping etc. Ferrer deserved to win that, totally.
We decided that we would have to miss the beginning of Fed v Tsonga in order to go to VIP village so off we went. First people we saw were Stan and a woman posing for pics. Then some bloke walked past me carrying racquets. Ds1 said "that was Cilic". I said, "What? Where? Why didn't you tell me?". Turned round to look and Goran was walking past me. :0. He looked better than ever. Had drinks and returned for sets 2 and 3 of Fed v Tsonga. I was miffed it went to 3 because it meant we had to leave for the airport before Djok v Garcia-Lopez, but as ds1 reminded me, we had just spent the better part of the day in Monte Carlo watching world class players and I should count myself lucky. Yeah alright mate, you're definitely your father's son!
So final celeb sighting was when Rory McIlroy jogged past us just as we were getting in taxi to airport. I had no lue who he was til ds1 pointed him out. Oh not quite final - there was a loud annoying girl on plane in front of me on way home. Ds and I were sat separately and he told me later that she had been a contestant on Big Brother about 5 years ago. How on earth he remembered that I have no idea - he def hasn't inherited my face recognition abilities, of rather, total lack of them.
Back in real world now of catching up on washing and cleaning. :)
