I love David Morrissey. My god there's so much on telly tonight I'm beside myself!

Yes it would, Hester. I'm not convinced about Olivia Colman's capabilities as an actress. She's the same in every part I've seen and I've never been convinced in any of them. I think she has limited scope for expressions and even the most heartwrenching script yesterday didn't ring true.

When she opened the door and after the '2 years' it was like she was on tranquilisers. Maybe she was?

Misfitless · 08/01/2014 12:17

I agree with Hester.

I wanted to shake Olivia Coleman and say "Really?"

Totally unrealistic ending. They may well have stayed together, but surely it wouldn't have been as domestic-blissy as that!

CrestaRun · 08/01/2014 12:29

But... there's no point staying together unless you are able to try to move on, surely? After 2 years, there would be good days and bad days.

It did seem as if he'd got off without any repercussions though.

happybubblebrain · 08/01/2014 12:30

The script was boring and lazy. Rubbish ending. The acting was pretty good. I like OC but you can't go an hour in TV land without spotting her. I don't find DM at all attractive but he is brilliant in the Walking Dead. SS was ok.

Stumbelina · 08/01/2014 12:36

Wow what utter rubbish. From the predictable mid life crisis leads to an affair, to the happy ever after ending. I'm surprised this even got commissioned. I'm not even sure what it was trying to get across. Was it that men get bored with daily life and need an attractive blonde to spice it up a bit? The only redeeming lines came from OC who let her husband know that everyone struggles but most don't selfishly shag someone else to deal with it. There has tobe a more interesting way to write about this kind of feeling surely?

WipsGlitter · 08/01/2014 13:52

I think it was more realistic that people like to admit. I have a friend who had an affair. Her husband found out but they are still together - because he loves her and she knew the affair was going no where and they had a child and it was a big old mess. I think more people stray and are then taken back that people like to admit.

Every relationship has it's moments of pure monotony, if you're vulnerable then something like an affair can easily happen.

PaulMcGannsMistress · 08/01/2014 14:32

I'd like to see a drama about the intervening 2 years, tbh.

harrietfromharrow · 08/01/2014 15:00

I don't think a normal writer would have ever had this commissioned. It is because DN is a big name and that in turn will have brought in the actors it did that in turn got viewers.

LondonNinja · 08/01/2014 15:03

The last scenes were nauseating.

Oh, yes, Everlong, that look was beyond cringeworthy. Urgh. The lack of fallout from OC's character was ridiculous, wasn't it? It was almost as though they had cut out scenes to fit the time allotted. She went from hissing "you have destroyed us" to laughing gaily while DD read something. WTAF?

2rebecca · 08/01/2014 15:35

If you're going to stay with someone though you have to be content in the relationship 2 years down the line, otherwise you should have separated. Life is too short to bear grudges for years on end.
If he has seen SS 2 years later and been indifferent to her that would have been unrealistic in my view. He would have happily stayed with her, she was the one who ended things.
You can love more than one person. I think him pretending he'd never loved SS and telling his wife he regretted ever meeting her would have just been telling her what she wanted to hear and lying.

LauraBridges · 08/01/2014 16:48

Interesting. Yet to me he is utterly unfanciable with a dreadful beard and he'd never catch anyone like her. Yet people on here think he's attractive!

Ownteethandhair · 08/01/2014 16:49

But SS was with another man at the end, not the thicko gym bunny. She had moved on even if DM stayed in same old rut.

CrestaRun · 08/01/2014 17:01

Well, SS was using it as an exit affair really, wasn't she?

She knew it wouldn't work in RL with David Morrissey's character, but it gave her the impetus to end her relationship with her fiance.

CrestaRun · 08/01/2014 17:05

I think you are right everlong. In my situation my Ex H was prepared to forgive, he desperately wanted me to stay but I wouldn't.

Xfirefly · 08/01/2014 17:35

I had to watch this after reading some of this thread.

I found it OK overall. took a while not to see DM as the gov in the walking dead. I hated his character. found him creepy Confused. I don't see how he's attractive at all.

I agree with how he looked at SS at the end. like an opportunity?

squoosh · 08/01/2014 17:38

He's bee-yoo-tiful!

Oh my, yes he is.

Xfirefly · 08/01/2014 17:41

well I fancy Norman Reedus (Daryl, the walking dead) and I found him gross at first. he kind of grew on me. I could see how some women fancy DM...but not for me Smile

squoosh · 08/01/2014 17:43

Norman Reedus has shifty, weirdo eyes, but he bagged Helena Christensen so he obviously has some charm!

I also fancy Steve Buscemi, so I'm not really renowned for my taste.

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2014 17:44

He wasn't meant to be very sexy in this drama. I think we are all talking about him in rl. He's gorgeous, soft scouse accent, politically driven, married to the wonderful Esther Freud, a loyal friend so my mate tells me and hasn't forgotten where he came from and still is involved with The Everyman Theatre and developing young peoples talent.

I think he's hot.

HesterShaw · 08/01/2014 17:45

Was he the one who played Darcy recently in thee Death thing?

HesterShaw · 08/01/2014 17:46

No he wasn't

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2014 17:46

I fancied James Gandolfini and Steve Buscemi again, not for their looks.
