The Bridge is back on Saturday 4th January on BBC 4!
Only for a double bill thoughSad but better than nothing.

OP posts:

We are all big Bridge fans here, lovers of all things Scandi. IS anyone going to the Nordic Noir weekend in London over first weekend in Feb, I am really keen to go, the whole weekend looks fab, and the actress who plays Saga is supposed to be giving a talk, among with novelists, writers etc. IF anyone is going, let me know!

I think Saga is a brilliant character, she is not entirely unempathetic, and is becoming increasingly aware of her lack of tact through Martin's guidance. I think he is gorgeous as well - full of flaws too.

My daughter is writing a piece on strong women heroines in contemporary film/literature, and we have discussed all the strong, scandi, unconventional heroines who have graced our screens over the past few years, - kind of anti heroines as all have flaws and non conventionally 'beautiful' - Lund, Lisbeth Salander, Saga, even the wonderful Birgitte Nyborg had her flaws.. What do the College want her to read and discuss instead? 50 Shades of Grey..................................... (gulp)

stinkingbishop · 23/01/2014 14:35

guineapig that is officially AWFUL!

Right. I have been thinking about this all far too much. And I have some more questions and observations.

  1. Boob implants have now been mentioned twice (Caroline's potential ones, and the one in the boat). There is no such thing as a coincidence in The Bridge. Especially given the growing Big Pharma theme.
  1. Claudio's willy being small is, I think, more than just a 'isn't Saga funny' moment. She finds it odd, and it is odd. He ain't no gigolo. He got bumped off immediately after Blondie/brother of/Bodil found out about his memoirs. I think he's some thick stooge/occasional shag involved in the plot who got too big for his boots.
  1. Is Saga pregnant? Seems to be more trouser loosening than before. Am tempted to think that is the 'birthday' but presumably the graduation/summit is before then, so that doesn't work...
  1. The time it takes to die is uber important, hence the experiments. Either simply to up the dramatic tension so we know Saga/Martin only have x hours to find the victim and administer the antidote OR so that it fits in flawlessly with the summit/Blondie's speech/etc.
  1. Where is Laura's mother, hm?
  1. Finally, Saga's sister was obviously a victim of Munchausen's...but was that her mother or - horror - Saga?

TWO DAYS to wait. Two days. I may implode...

diddl · 23/01/2014 15:12

I wondered if Claudio was a blackmailer?

A thought I had was that Viktoria's brother was trying to find something to save her, but is now killing others as he's so pissed off that she is dying.

tobiasfunke · 23/01/2014 17:55

I thought Saga might be pregnant as wel due to the trouser opening.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/01/2014 18:41

I hadn't thought of Saga being pregnant. Interesting!

AndTheNutWasGood · 23/01/2014 19:46

I've come to this late - have just finished watching season 1 of The Bridge and The Killing and have really enjoyed them.

My Dad has been talking about them for ages but I kept putting off watching them - he's pleased I've finally got round to it!

Taking him to Nordicana next weekend - he's hoping to bump into Wallander!

peggyblackett · 24/01/2014 04:13

We are utterly addicted to The Bridge. 1 day to go.

How did Laura have Martin's number in her phone?

abuhamzamouse · 24/01/2014 04:55

peggyblanket Martin gave Laura his card.
Delurking to say how much I am loving this series. Saga is a legend!

stinkingbishop · 24/01/2014 08:44

I do think there is a bit of a parenting theme going on, so therefore it is entirely appropriate for us to be discussing it on MN Smile.

Martin's lost one child, is away from his, one of them gets ill.

The nanny usurping maternal control.

The first eco terrorist being an orphan, parenting his brother.

Stressed out dad, Mother of three, plotting on a parenting forum.

Laura being apparently motherless, over protective Dad.

Saga meeting her MIL, Munchausen issues with her sister, no contact with parents, possibly being pregnant.

Neither Caroline nor Bodil nor Viktoria appear to have children. Merely coincidence or..? Is it on the Bucket List? Was that part of Claudio's role?

Hmm...

mrsjavierbardem · 24/01/2014 09:29

OMG Stinkingbish! Your posts are like a horror sudoku written by a cruel trolling script writer to mess with my mind!!!
You scare me with your penetration ( said the actress to the bishop)
BUT nevertheless, I salute your brain.
Also I have to confess an act of supreme idiocy; I went on the youtubes and saw a behind the scenes series 2 factotrailer.....I think I saw something which I can now never unsee and It was, if I am right an appalling spoiler of the plot. But I may be wrong , how can I have been so stupid?
(sound of woman sobbing into a pile of laundry in a non minimalist home).

mrsjavierbardem · 24/01/2014 09:32

BTW I will honour this thread and make no illusion to what I have seen. ( sound of woman looking for bottle of vodka in order to go and drink it in a layby)

stinkingbishop · 24/01/2014 09:33

Not a trolling script writer, no, but I announced to DP last night that I consider it my moral duty to apply to the police services (I was karaoke-detecting to Silent Witness) because I am obviously so SKILLED at it. He passed no comment. He mostly passes no comment...

Am now wondering what you glimpsed. It must have been short, visual, hmm...

mrsjavierbardem · 24/01/2014 09:36

Sorry for even mentioning it, I don't want to tinker with the fine balance of your deductions! What I saw wasn't tragic it was just a plot spoiler I should now retire thread. (sound of woman wailing behind doors locked from the inside)

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/01/2014 10:16

This morning, having thought a while ago Laura's dad is not a bad guy, it struck me what if the reason she has no memory of the shooter is because she saw it was her dad and the shock was so huge she blanked it?
Nooooooo....

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/01/2014 10:19

Was I the only one who thought maybe Jens would spot something else in the copy file Martin let him read in prison? Just a tactic to get him to thaw and think like a normal person and feel the horror of his guilt.

CurrerBell · 24/01/2014 11:43

stinkingbishop very interesting - yes, definitely a parenting theme going on. I think Saga might be pregnant too, and wonder if she knows. I can see her knowing, but not thinking to tell Jakob!

Donkeys I am suspicious of Laura's dad too. I got the impression he sent the teacher up to Laura's hospital room deliberately, although I can't think how that makes sense.

Although I think Saga's Asperger's is being over-played at bit by the writers, I do love her character and portrayal - it's wonderful to see such a strong character with AS on screen. Perhaps the writers are over-signposting certain things for a reason... At the end of series 1 Saga's inability to lie was one of the key drivers of the denouement. So I'm guessing that Saga's unique gifts and difficulties are going to play a big role in how things play out.

Pernille is watching Saga a lot and smiling to herself, isn't she...

Pernille, Laura's dad, Bodil, Charlotte's husband, Viktoria, Viktoria's brother - all very suspicious and possibly up to something... but maybe there are further layers of crime before we get to the top?

Incidentally, have we found out what Jakob's job is yet?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/01/2014 12:01

I don't know but he might be a SAHD in series III Wink

CurrerBell · 24/01/2014 12:26

Grin Good point Donkeys! Hope Jakob's not caught up in anything - he seems lovely.

ouryve · 24/01/2014 12:28

She was given his card when the office was raided, peggy.

Dawndonnaagain · 24/01/2014 16:40

I don't much believe that someone like Saga could get to be a detective interviewing witnesses etc being the way she is in the first place... Either she would have learned to be a tad more humanistic or not got to be a Porsche driving free - wheeling detective let loose on the public.
There are many financial institutions that positively discriminate in favour of Aspies. We're very good at spotting the fine, tiny details that others miss. Many financial institutions that have investigatory departments like us, as do police forces the world over. I have known one or two Chief Inspectors with AS.

FayKnights · 24/01/2014 16:44

I can't believe I've missed a whole thread on my favourite programme, will go back and read all of it!

HilaryMantelshelf · 24/01/2014 17:29

Love the Bridge!

So moving when Martin was thanking Saga for saving his son as they stood by the bridge I may have needed to dab my eyes

Re the tattoo. We get a glimpse of it as she sits at the table in a halterneck top. It's the scene at 52.30 mins. on BBC IPlayer. You can only see part of it but I reckon it could be the toad.

mrsjavierbardem · 24/01/2014 17:47

She could be pg couldn't she? Respect to all who spotted that except the Rasmus-support club ; I am afraid I can't respect you lot, I am so cross with him for his law breaking and undermining the investigation!

But there was the Nanny saying to Martins kid "oh she doesn't like children" and Saga protested that wasn't the case.

mousmous · 24/01/2014 18:01

can't wait till saturday!
until then I have to cheat with silent witness
interesting the parenting angle stinking

is posh girl victoria's daughter, hence the surveilance by her father to protect her?

mousmous · 24/01/2014 18:06
Shock can you image some evil plotter to use mumsnet for their purpose Shock
