Who won the name change competition? Can't find it. Can't remember who was ahead but I saw TheVermiciousDalek (usually TVKnid) earlier and it made me Grin Don't think she entered though.

Paul wears me out constantly Wink

A friend on FB had a DW Advent Calendar but the consensus was that it was properly crap.

PaulMcGannsMistress · 05/12/2013 10:37

Anyone see the clip of DW on the beeb's latest Christmas ad? Bottom slapping no less. I'm scandalized!

LetZygonsbeZygons · 06/12/2013 19:04

was watching 'smith and jones' today for the millionth time yet something just came to me.....

if the plasmavore sucked the life out of the doctor how come he didn't regenerate? and Martha recusitated him instead?

OP posts:
PaulMcGannsMistress · 07/12/2013 09:32

The Doctor doesn't always regenerate straight away after dying - McCoy didn't, McGann didn't, and even Tennant didn't regenerate at all in Turn Left.

confuddledDOTcom · 07/12/2013 14:45

10 died "too quickly to regenerate" in Turn Left, which doesn't really make much sense when you look back.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 07/12/2013 15:14

No, they've always been fairly upfront about that -- the Doctor can die without regenerating. Regenerating is effectively an alternative to death when he gets poisoned or falls off a high building or something else that would normally result in a lingering death. Chop his head off, or put him in a car crusher, or something of that nature, and you've got a very dead Time Lord on your hands (contrast there with Captain Jack who would come back to life in those cases).

We saw that again in Night of the Doctor -- Eight had been killed instantaneously on impact and hadn't regenerated; he only got the option to regenerate because he happened to have crashed on Karn and the Sisterhood of Karn bring him back to life for a few minutes.

PaulMcGannsMistress · 07/12/2013 17:24

And Five definitely says 'I might regenerate'.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 07/12/2013 18:16

Sod it, I'm going to watch Paul "Night of the Doctor" again now...

LetZygonsbeZygons · 07/12/2013 18:23

still non the wiser Grin. ill just have to remember....its only a sci-fi show!

OP posts:
AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 07/12/2013 18:28

I think he quite possibly would have regenerated if Martha had left him alone. In the TV movie (so not the most reliable source of canon Whoness, admittedly) Seven got declared dead, wheeled down to the morgue and checked into the chiller compartment for a few hours regenerating, although I think they claimed that the drugs from surgery were interfering with the regeneration process.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 07/12/2013 18:29

"...few hours before regenerating..."

LetZygonsbeZygons · 07/12/2013 18:33

I still don't get John Hurt just stepping into his tardis and immediately regenerating with no reason!

OP posts:
TheDoctrineOfSanta · 07/12/2013 18:46

I think his body was worn our with the Time War and everything. The time lord equivalent of dying of old age!

LetZygonsbeZygons · 07/12/2013 19:08

yes but he just walked casually into the Tardis, not all puffy and panty and old and weary and stuff, it just....happened IYKWIM.

OP posts:
AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 07/12/2013 19:13

I think the First Doctor just kind of regenerated, didn't he? Although he was on the old and weary side.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 07/12/2013 19:17

Cake ive never seen the 1st doc regeneration! before my time...yeah, right! might see if I can find that on you tube.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 07/12/2013 19:22

did that work? all the regenerations.

OP posts:
BertieBowtiesAreCool · 07/12/2013 19:31

He regenerated into that body for a reason, though, didn't he? And his job was done so it would make sense for him to regenerate after that.

PaulMcGannsMistress · 09/12/2013 15:01

will this work?

Whadya make of that then?
