Following on from the first thread...

It took me ages to get to sleep last night. I'm not particularly maudlin in general but that was shocking.

Predictions: Isabel and Mosley die.

OP posts:
Moln · 03/11/2013 23:19

whose going to see him off? reckon the pig feeding could be a group thing, but who will do the actual bumping off. Mary? she's gone all made and not aloof, or whatever the opposite if aloof is

tribpot · 03/11/2013 23:25

According to IMDB it's one more and then the Xmas spesh.

I was really hoping Bates had cottoned on a bit sooner given how obvious Green was being. And was playing his cards close to his chest so he could lunge out of nowhere for a spot of well-earned murderlising. Instead, no, the panto-stylee 'tra-la-la-WHAT THE FUCK NOW?' face.

So Edith is going to keep the baby and palm it off on a tenant. Can't see how that can fail in a community as close-knit as Downton. Although with Mary's gay quips early on in the ep Downton reaffirms its status as the country's first hippie commune, so perhaps the Bastard Child of the Dastardly Editor will be fine. Edith's right - Sybil could have pulled this off even with her godawful haircut.

I fancy a Murder on the Orient Express style death for Green. Everyone has a stab and then no-one can know who actually did him in.

NorthernLurker · 03/11/2013 23:29

DD1 and I were in hysterics every time somebody mentioned the blessed pigs.

Regarding Mary's young men - no there wasn't a serious shortage of men in the UK. Though mortality wasn't exactly low here, it was in France that the really awful decimation had taken place - whole villages with no surviving men between 20 and 40.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 03/11/2013 23:52

That was great.

Although I didn't quite buy Rosamund supporting her keeping the baby - she's always struck me as a bit too pragmatic for that.

minibmw2010 · 04/11/2013 07:25

She doesn't seem to have any children of her own so maybe she thinks Edith would regret losing her one chance. Fatty Daddy will be horrified! Have a terrible feeling the Dowagers illness is setting us up for Isobel to catch it and die, as it's the last episode Hmm

GeorginaWorsley · 04/11/2013 10:28

Isn't Rosamund supposed to have sons?
I must have dreamt that!

thelittlemothersucker · 04/11/2013 11:02

I reckon Edith will bump into old whotsit - the one who jilted her - will confide in him and he'll offer to marry her.

Just as they're vacuuming up the confetti, Gregson will swan in.

Cue much tension for series 5.

diddl · 04/11/2013 11:31

Anthony Strallen?

I wondered about him reappearing also.

Clawdy · 04/11/2013 12:20

That mud-slinging scene was so predictable and cringey - like the cliched food-fight in a rom-com!

diddl · 04/11/2013 15:59

"A lady in her position would probably get a discreet 'gynaecological procedure' in Harley Street."

With what money, though?

Surprised Aunty didn't offer to pay.

BlueChampagne · 04/11/2013 16:03

Hoped Baxter would get a chance to be her own character with Thomas in America.
Anna to confess Green's identity to Lady Mary.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 04/11/2013 18:21

Molesly was good asking Baxter what report did Thomas want?
A steamer to USA would've taken what? 2/3/4 weeks? they'll be away for ages

I adored Strallen, I hope he returns, Edith did love him, she was devvo'd when he jilted her.

Think Bates will kill Green after torturing a confession from him, Mrs Bates will help him remove evidence, Anna will dig large hole
think those mini pigs bit small to eat a corpse!

diddl · 04/11/2013 18:28

What's going on with Baxter & Thomas?

Did he get her the job or she owes him somehow?

Otherwise, why hasn't she told him to fuck off??

Hopefully she'll feed him stuff that he'll use & end up getting himself into trouble.

What's going to happen to Edith & why is JF going this route with her?

Whilst everyone's still fawning over bloody Mary?

"Am I aloof"?

Really??!!

Er, is the Pope Catholic??

ChaffinchOfDoom · 04/11/2013 19:07

I don't think Thomas is her brother, he's too mean.
He has some kind of hold, though, think he's caught her doing something fishy in the past; she seemed a bit sinister when she cynically took the orange juice to cora to win over the American.

don't think that'll be explained in one more ep though

lady Mary seems thoroughly bored by all of her suitors, 3 now. I like the pig guy the best, the 1st guy who got engaged to the Lainey woman seems a bit desperate and wet. Pig guy is smart and brave...and handsome.
evelyn is far too wishy washy for her

DontmindifIdo · 04/11/2013 20:23

I think everyones falling all over Mary because she's single and rich! She's inherited a share of Downton and her DS will inherit the rest (so it'll stay in the family).

I thought Thomas was family of some sort, brother might be too close...

Chubfuddler · 04/11/2013 20:38

I like Blake. There's a sparkiness between them like there was with Matthew in series 1 and 2 (and 3 but thru were happy smug marrieds and not as sparky).

I miss Matthew. He was lovely.

boogiewoogie · 05/11/2013 13:54

Thomas got Baxter in without a reference which suggests that he knows something about her past employment and is using that against her.

Green is going to get bumped off almost certainly but I think someone else will beat Bates to it. He'll get the blame though.

Poor Evelyn. I would have thought that he'd be put off from pursuing Mary given how she treated him back in series 1.

HorryIsUpduffed · 05/11/2013 20:31

Matthew's hair annoyed me too much. The colour seemed wrong.

Disclaimer: am not an expert in 1912-1922 men's hair!

phantomnamechanger · 05/11/2013 22:49

Just catching up ..... now that Edith keeping baby, will probably have a m/c Sad

Bates def knows whodunit - reckon everyone will by end of series, and yes, pigs will eat the evidence!! Not sure who will do the bumping off - so many possibles. Reckon he might die accidentally but they will all suspect each other and be covering for each other or all rushin to take the blame to protect someone else or something daft

Hope Thomas drowns en route to USA.

Dame Maggie brill this week!

DontmindifIdo · 06/11/2013 09:25

phanto - I reckon she'll keep the baby, give it to the tenants and we'll have lots of angst about the whole thing, and/or fear of Gregson finding out, or him finding out and them trying to ge the baby back...

Do you think in the Christmas special we could have something shocking, like Thomas trying it on with a man he thinks is gay and turns out to actually be gay, rather than Thomas trying it on with yet another straight man and getting himself in a pickle over it? I mean, no wonder he's a bit of a bastard, he's not had a shag for years, since that one who was trying to persue Mary in season one until he found out she'd got no inheritance... I'm sure if Thomas gets some in America he might come back a bit cheerier.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/11/2013 12:45

Ooh yes trib, Mrs Hughes would definitely be up for a stab I think!

thelittlemothersucker · 06/11/2013 21:39

Mary could shag Green to death. She has form for it, after all.

boogiewoogie · 06/11/2013 21:56

JF might borrow from Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles as follows:
Green might try to get Anna on her own while she's doing a chore that involves a needle of sharp implement of some kind. He taunts her and then calls her dh a name and Anna unable to restrain herself might stab him in the heart!

Or he might recycle a story line that he used in Gosford Park and Green can be poisoned by Mrs Hughes or another servant but Bates stabs him in his "sleep".

Or...

By the end of the series, everyone will want to kill him anyway.

JF said no major character will die in series 4. I suppose all the above could happen if Isobel is not considered a major character (disagree) or JF is splitting hairs and not treating the Xmas episode as part of the series.
