Are we still loving GBBO?? Who is your favourite to win? I change my mind every week, love Mel and Sue tho!! Grin

She has by far the best record in the blind tasting technical challenge - won it twice, come second once, third twice. Kimberly has won it once and come second and third once each. I think that's significant.

chocoluvva · 09/10/2013 12:14

They should probably do all the tastings blind IMO.

LazyGaga · 09/10/2013 12:58

Oops Yes it's the technical that's judged blind, I
said signature.

There could be no accusations of bias if they were all blind tasted chocluvva, though it would then put an end to Paul and Mary wandering around, interrogating chatting to the contestants, with Paul giving it "Oh, you're doing it like that are you? Really? Hmm".

chocoluvva · 09/10/2013 13:23

Ah yes and MB pursing her lips in disapproval, anticipating saying 'I told you so'. Still love it all though.

chocoluvva · 09/10/2013 13:25

Did I really hear PH describe the 'cheesecake' as "simple"? Eh? I'd be beyond delighted if I'd made anything remotely like that!

Lottapianos · 09/10/2013 15:26

I thought Paul and Mary were a right pair of sour old buggers in the showstopper round last night. Becca, Frances and Christine all looked devastated Sad

And yes he did describe the 'cheese' cake as 'simple' Hmm Miserable git

GwendolineMaryLacey · 09/10/2013 15:30

Yes I thought Mary was a bit of a catsbum mouth last night.

ithaka · 09/10/2013 15:41

But none of this explains why neither Paul nor Mary made one comment or remark or even appeared to notice how shoddy & amateurish Ruby's cake looked.

Yes, I will believe it tasted the best. But it looked like the sort of cake I knock up with a child's help. All the other contestants were held to a far higher standard than that.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 09/10/2013 15:50

But they did comment on the shed etc. Mary specifically commented on the skill involved in tempering the chocolate.

ithaka · 09/10/2013 15:57

Yes, but she didn't comment that the shed was lopsided and the whole cake looked messy.

HardFacedCareeristBitchNigel · 09/10/2013 16:09

I think it will be Becca. She's very consistent and delivers well each week. I dont think it will be kimberley or frances. My prediction is ruby and becca for final.

And she's welsh Cake

IsabelleRinging · 09/10/2013 16:13

Ruby will win as it looks like it's being engineered that way. I bet the bbc boffins have their eye on the money they can make out of her after she wins. Being so photogenic is good for the viewing figures.

honeybeeridiculous · 09/10/2013 16:24

Yes but Rubys voice is so monotone and boring, don't think she'd make good tv on her own, will be pretty on a book cover tho Hmm

OP posts:
RussiansOnTheSpree · 09/10/2013 16:30

I think these comments about Ruby's looks are really unfair. Kimberly is also very very pretty. And Ruby has by far the best performance in the blind tasting bit - the technical challenge. She is clearly the best baker, which isn't to say she will win since each week it's just on that week, but she has been 'placed' in the tech challenge 5 times, which is way more than any of the others. And she's won it twice. This is clearly the most significant point and one which many people seem to be wilfully ignoring.

Nicknamegrief · 09/10/2013 17:43

This may be back tracking and influenced by the editing but when you see the technicals been judged it is fairly obviously looking at the contestants faces who the item belongs to. My husband and I even have a little guessing game of our own- he doesn't really watch it and I need to get new glasses.

mignonette · 10/10/2013 09:49

Why are you all judging these women on their LOOKS?

It is a baking competition.

None of the men last year had such comments made so pointedly about their looks or voices as some kind of criteria for winning.

BloodiedGhouloshes · 10/10/2013 10:40

Speaking personally, it is because I feel a little bit cynical. I think Ruby is outstandingly pretty, and feel a bit suspicious that as soon as the comp is over she is going to have her own show, book deals etc. Because of her looks.

mignonette · 10/10/2013 10:44

I get that Bloodied but nothing like that was said about the men last year. Not to the same degree and their baking was always the primary debate. Women are being judged here on how they look rather then what they do. If that is what the producers and judges of GBBO are engaged in then the show will suffer in the long run.

I probably won't bother watching any more because this series has been really marred by the kind of comments made about the contestants, it has been marred by PH and I was told who had won so that kind of shot the rat out of the spout!

BloodiedGhouloshes · 10/10/2013 10:48

See, I am agreeing with you really.

(who won? ) Pretty please. :)

mignonette · 10/10/2013 10:51

I can't Bloodied because I think if it gets back to the employee who snitched (and it is a small world on here and traceable, at least I probably am) then they're out of a job. Nobody but nobody is indispensable. I shouldn't have run my mouth off about it but you know how it is Smile.

Not long to wait!

RussiansOnTheSpree · 10/10/2013 10:55

Mignonette - If someone has told you who has won (and bear in mind - they might not have told the truth. I have friends who work on a very high profile show and the amount of disinformation that is purposely spread round beggars belief) that's not the fault of the show, but the individual who blabbed. PH has not marred the show this year, nor has any of the contestants. The only people who have been 'marring' things are the nutters who chose to take issue with the fact that a reasonable looking young woman happens to be shit hot at baking, when they would prefer the winner to be someone else.

mignonette · 10/10/2013 11:30

Who and what we think has marred the show is subjective Russian and it really isn't for another person to tell me what and who has marred the show personally for me.

I can assure you this person has told me the truth. And knowing who has won HAS marred it for me because quite simply shows like these in part have their enjoyment predicated upon not knowing.

And I never said the contestants had marred the show if that is what you inferred from my post. I made it clear that the comments about the looks of the female contestants had marred it. And they have.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 10/10/2013 12:02

mignonette but you didn't say 'marred FOR YOU'. You made a general statement which I am entitled to dispute. :)

If you had actually read my last post you'd see that I agreed with you that it's the talking about the contestants which has been an obvious issue (I think it's fair to make a general comment about that because there is a lot of evidence it's getting on most peoples' tits, albeit for different reasons)

You shouldn't have let your friend tell you who won. A few years ago, for the show I know about, there was a Big Thing. And the papers were full of it. And I had many people swearing blind to me that they 'knew' what was going to happen and it was this or that. And Journos, too - and I really did know what was going to happen, and knew they were wrong. But it brought me no joy, it did in fact spoil it. Since then I have refused to let the people who could tell me exactly what is going to happen talk about the show at all to me. It's much better that way.

mignonette · 10/10/2013 12:09

Sorry if I didn't make it clear that I was referring to my opinion Russian Flowers and if I sounded snippy.

I got caught out by my friend and it slipped out before I could stop them. They weren't actually boasting or making a big deal out of telling per se, rather I overheard a discussion about the Winner relating to the circumstances around the win etc etc and I stupidly carried on listening!

RussiansOnTheSpree · 10/10/2013 12:41

mignonette That's OK! :) I used to think non disclosure clauses were silly. I don't any more.
