Oh but poooooor Ruby doesn't even have a desk (cue yet another shot of her studying cool, funky and cross-legged in the middle of the floor.)

LazyGaga · 08/10/2013 19:34

It's all in the editing really - they show Kimberley being uber (can't find umlaut) confident "Oh well, this will be straight forward/ this is just like doing XYZ" and then she doesn't actually produce the goods.

It's like when Glenn finished his pastry show stopper, camera cut to him saying "We'll, I've definitely done enough to stay in." I thought then, he's going to be booted off in five minutes!

dementedma · 08/10/2013 23:21

Kimberley is the best baker in it.
Ruby's effort tonight was a lopsided mess yet they all praised it to the skies.
Sorry that Christine went - I liked her.

soontobeslendergirl · 08/10/2013 23:27

I don't like Kimberley, she seems to think she deserves to win and I like the face she makes when they tell her it tastes shite :)

Ruby seems to get the benefit of the doubt all the time because of her looks which isn't really fair.

Frances annoys me as she is like a cute puppy that pees on your shoes and then wonders why you don't love her.

So, for me it has to be Becca but she probably isn't the best baker :o

that's probably Ruby

maggiethecat · 09/10/2013 00:37

Kimberley clearly most talented - you trust her to deliver.

rootypig · 09/10/2013 00:38

LazyGaga defo agree with your about the editing - I wondered who Kimberly had pissed off to make her look so sulky Grin But as much as the producers will have a 'story' in mind, I do think like slendergirl her reactions to criticism speak volumes. And I know I harp on about this but she never does that well in the technical!

Based on the judges' reactions to the things that they make, I think Ruby and Christine are the best all round bakers. But they both have temperament issues. Kimberly is like a machine. Frances is also very steady.

Not to take it too seriously or anything Grin

rootypig · 09/10/2013 00:40

Oh I've just realised it's Tuesday and I haven't watched today's! (am in the US, it's still the afternoon)

pretends not to have seen dementedma's comment

rootypig · 09/10/2013 00:43

Oh no Mel and Sue can't say quarter! 'kawter'. I hate that.

It's a measure of how much I love them that I am willing to overlook it for the first time ever Grin

barkingtreefrog · 09/10/2013 07:35

How do you say 'quarter', root? I'm now saying it repeatedly out loud...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 09/10/2013 07:36

she seems to think she deserves to win

No shit Sherlock. Really? In a baking competition?

And you think the one that isn't the best baker deserves to win? Right....

It's a shame Christine went out. She was a good solid baker, she just didn't go for big impact.

BloodiedGhouloshes · 09/10/2013 07:42

I was going to say Ruby. Watched it for the first time properly (have only dipped in and out before) and I feel certain that within two seconds of this show finishing she will have a series regardless of her baking skills as she is just SO pretty.

rootypig · 09/10/2013 07:52

kwarter, barking Grin

maybe I should spell the way they say it cort-er? does that make sense? it's the 'wuh' sound they're missing. Infuriating.

Back to Bake Off proper: I thought Ruby was a tad annoying this week. But Kimberly really is pissy when she gets criticism, no editor could make that face up. Like a smacked arse! And I was really cross that Frances got such a going over. Her show stopper was amazing! I thought she was right to be upset by the judging. Mary and Christine defo had animosity, and Mary I think favours Ruby, probably because she meets her idea of retiring femininity tries to erase vile Mary Berry DM interviews from mind

Anyway all that aside, I still think Ruby's bizarrely consistent performance in the technical points to her being a v. good baker.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/10/2013 08:01

Ruby's bakes were very good last night - that shed was really charming and characterful

LaurieFairyCake · 09/10/2013 08:05

I love beca's face when she got criticism last night - she's a proper good baker and when they praised something insignificant about the mouse cake and then said her cake was bland you could see her face thinking:

'The ducking point of cake is that it takes nice!!
Fuck, fuck, arse!'

Ruby to win, she's the best.

Kimberley's pesto and Parma ham thing looked amazing - how on earth could it not have tasted good

soontobeslendergirl · 09/10/2013 08:14

That's what I mean about Kimberley, she comes up with something "unique" and then thinks that because she gets praise for that that she should win, but often it isn't baked well or doesn't taste good and her face is almost angry with the judges. So, I don't like her.

Ruby is probably the most naturally talented, but I think I'd probably rather eat becca's food.

I think the problem is, Kimberly and Frances had cakes which looked good but tasted poo. Ruby's looked alright and tasted amazing. Which is what she normally does (she hasn't been a big one for presentation all the way through, she's definitely been substance over style). This isn't a design competition it's a baking competition. And she is clearly the best baker even though Frances is clearly the best designer. They should go into business together, Frances designing what the stuff should look like and Ruby deciding what it should taste like and doing the actual cooking.

I don't know, but I suspect that Ruby is wearing contacts and that's why she blinks a lot. She's far less flirty than Kimberly but Kimberly's flirt ones is interspersed with mega sulking. So it's less obvious. Ruby has been star baker 3 times now, which must indicate something.

chocoluvva · 09/10/2013 08:33

Ruby and her lack of confidence? Hmm, I expect her lack of confidence in her ability to bake is what inspired her to enter a baking competition. Hmm

My teenage DD hopes she'll win.

mignonette · 09/10/2013 08:34

None of them are particularly likable in the editing but it is a baking contest not Miss Congeniality. We are still judging Women by the wrong criteria!

chocoluvva · 09/10/2013 08:35

When the contestant who was going out was announced, DD commented that they'd now all begin to cry! Cue shots of a row of tearful bakers. Smile

PestoSpookissimos · 09/10/2013 08:45

Ruby will win - she's luffly

And good at baking too Grin

RussiansOnTheSpree · 09/10/2013 08:52

Ruby obviously should win. She's been star baker 3 times and should've been last week too. She's really good.

nipersvest · 09/10/2013 09:32

have i fallen into the trap of believing what i see on the tv?, because i'll be annoyed if ruby wins as the show has been edited to highlight blatant favouritism from paul towards her. she could serve up a dog poo on a plate and still be star baker.

LazyGaga · 09/10/2013 11:09

To be fair Ruby gets high praise in the signature bake when the judges don't know who's done what.

AntoinetteCosway · 09/10/2013 11:35

I reckon it's going to be:

  1. Ruby
  2. Kimberley
  3. Frances
  4. Beca
