Right!! I'm now off to catch up with what I can off the Great Irish Bake Off , which I'm also getting into late

ExcuseTypos · 22/10/2013 21:59

I agree that they weren't given enough time. Another hour and they could have produced real show stoppers. A shame, as they'd all produced so much better on other programmes.

I also thought that making pretzels was really, very boring for a final.

abuhamzamouse · 22/10/2013 21:59

Oh dear poor Kimberley I don't think the"I'm going to piss on some newspaper and press it into some icing" was the look she was going for. Shame as she was brilliant normally, mustmust have had a bad week. Well done Frances!

chartreuse · 22/10/2013 22:02

Really pleased that Frances won, but I must say I have been really surprised at the comments on all the Bake Off threads this week. Ruby was slated for her low self esteem and Kimberly derided because her self esteem was too high. Cheers sisters.

Not MNs proudest moment.

chocoluvva · 22/10/2013 22:03

I am deeeeeeeeeeeelighted with the result.

6 hours to bake 3 different cakes, stack em on top of each other and decorate them to wedding standard?! Don't people normally spend days over these things?
Looking forward to next year's GBBO already Grin

eslteacher · 22/10/2013 22:11

My baker friend made a family wedding cake last year, he did it over 24 hours and was totally rushed even in that time. There is a lot of cooling then first icing then setting then second icing then stacking then final decorating involved apparently, and you can't get a good finish without adequate time for all that.

PoppyScarer · 22/10/2013 22:21

Although I've watched previous series I have missed this one entirely partly because Paul Hollywood put me off and only just read about Frances just now online. Might have been in the DM.

Now please forgive me if someone has already said this BUT...she designs children's clothes for a living? I distinctly remember that we have a children's clothes designer in our midst. From a vvvvvv old thread complaining about children's clothes and how they are designed.

because clearly there can only be one children's clothes designer on MN when millions of people post per day Grin

BloodiedGhouloshes · 22/10/2013 22:23

Oooh, if Frances is here- I had a bit of a girl crush on her. She looked like someone I would really like as my friend.

PoppyScarer · 22/10/2013 22:27

I read some more DM, cough cough and she designs clothes for Joules.

I luffs her.

barkingtreefrog · 22/10/2013 22:58

Anyone seen this?
Ruby replies

BloodiedGhouloshes · 22/10/2013 23:05

Good for her.

AntoinetteCosway · 22/10/2013 23:07

I think that article by Ruby is spot on.

Bit gutted for Kimberley but fair play to Frances-definitely the better baker tonight.

CointreauVersial · 22/10/2013 23:11

Good for Ruby, writing that article.

I thought it was a two-horse race between Kimberley and Ruby, but then Frances steals up on the rails and beats them both.

I think they all did brilliantly, and I can't believe how utterly entertaining a series about Baking turned out to be. Grin

breatheslowly · 22/10/2013 23:38

Ruby writes very well.

Meglet · 23/10/2013 07:18

The final cakes were a real let down. This is the first GBBO series I've seen and was expecting some beauties, they really should have given them more time.

Snargaluff · 23/10/2013 07:29

She's right. They were judged for things they wouldn't have been judged for if they were men

eslteacher · 23/10/2013 07:45

I think Ruby is being naive. Contestants on reality shows are literally putting themselves forward to be judged. Surely we all know by now that viewers and commentators inevitably judge such contestants not only on their skills but their personalities too. And of course people get carried away and go over the top, which is horrible, but it is by no means unique to this show. Anyone and everyone in the public eye is subject to 'twitter hate' and negative commentary.

Raymond Blanc is a twat though.

eslteacher · 23/10/2013 07:47

And I think men ARE judged for being overly confident or smug. Maybe not so much for being under confident / meek though.

WangoFandango · 23/10/2013 08:06

I felt sorry for them all; it is physically impossible to produce a 3 tier cake with a high finish in 6 hrs, they needed double that. The finished articles did look very am but that should have been no surprise to anyone.

Bunnygotwhacked · 23/10/2013 08:12

It was the way it was edited or indeed the way that the contestants/ judges actually behaved that had people frothing. It was the whole everyone brings up their bakes to the bench and gets told "this is wrong" "that doesn't work" etc etc. Ruby comes up with what frequently looks like a pile of poo and gets told "this is wonderful" "isn't that just fabulous" "look you have that exactly right"
It wasn't because she was a woman it wasn't because she cried It was the blatant favoritism that was shown to the public via editing or showing it how it really was that people felt was unfair to the other contestants and got people riled.
The Oh she's young comments from mainly Mary were wearing as well. How old was john last year 19? she had just done her degree so had james from last year none of which got any of them let off with crap bakes.

doormat · 23/10/2013 08:19

bunny well said...
her bakes were mostly insulting to the others and she was getting applauded for it

yet sisterhood accuses us because she is young and pretty we must be jealous

no she was ahit end of

doormat · 23/10/2013 08:19

shit not ahit lol

ArabellaPilkington · 23/10/2013 09:21

Am so pleased Frances won. A lovely talented lady.

GinGinGin · 23/10/2013 09:30
