So pleased with their decision even though I wasn't a Frances fan for most of the series. She deserved it and totally won me over by the end.

Moln · 22/10/2013 20:59

Next year I'm gong to watch th whole thing. How have I missed this until now!!!!!

rootypig · 22/10/2013 21:00

Well done Frances!

and would all the Ruby whingers naysayers please line up to eat their hats Grin

Actually, seriously, I found all the Ruby bashing because she is young and pretty and unsure of herself really awful - it's bad enough in RL, I expect more from MN somehow

Badvoc · 22/10/2013 21:02

Well done Frances.
Well deserved victory.

KaseyM · 22/10/2013 21:04

I agree rootypig - Ruby is only young - we're all entitled to have a few character flaws at that age and she's clearly lacking in confidence.

Hopefully she'll gain some after reaching the final.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 22/10/2013 21:04

Oh I love GBBO. So comforting.

annielewis · 22/10/2013 21:07

Young and pretty I have no problem with, fake and whingy I can't abide!

Draculasbride · 22/10/2013 21:07

I loved Ruby but I'm glad Frances won she was amazing (that opera cake Shock!) didn't like smugy smug smug Kimberley

paulapantsdown · 22/10/2013 21:07

I spent 10/ weeks watching this, then the sky tv cuts out 3 minutes before the end because of the storm here. Had to come on here to find out who won.

Kimberley was robbed, but Frances' cakes will look prettier in a book.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 22/10/2013 21:10

I have to confess ruby got on my nerves. It was less the shaking and the tears and more of the "it's rubbish" every time. She's young but she's not a child. However, I do think the show was edited to promote that as her USP and while I'm not a fan some of the vitriol directed at her seems very extreme. She's a great baker but in the end her lack of experience and skill development showed.

I also cried. I am perfectly well and sitting on the sofa Hmm

wintera · 22/10/2013 21:14

Kimberley would have won if it wasn't for that showstopper. I agreed with the judges, I was really surprised by her efforts in that last round. I think that print on the outside sealed her fate. It just looked smudged and messy. Such a shame. I had a feeling Frances was gonna win last week, wish I'd put money on it now! Would have got good odds I reckon!

cocoleBOO · 22/10/2013 21:16

So pleased Grin

Titsalinabumsquash · 22/10/2013 21:18

Yay! I'm happy with that result.

Kimberly didn't do very well at all, not her usual standard.

Frances was great, stylish, original and her wedding cake was lovely.

Ruby has spent the last 10 weeks trying to tell everyone how rubbish she is she kind of didn't really help herself.

I'm still majorly in love with Mel and Sue, I want a Mel and Sue sandwich! Grin

PeppermintPasty · 22/10/2013 21:22

I predict that Frances will do a novelty cakes cookery book that will be rushed out for Christmas. The girl done good.

Mellowandfruitful · 22/10/2013 21:24

I wasn't a Ruby fan, but I was surprised when they came straight out with the criticism this week. In earlier weeks I had felt that they'd gone easy on her - for instance, telling her that her canapés were really well presented and looked lovely when in fact they were pretty higgledy-piggledy (Beca's looked better but she didn't get any praise for it). So it must have been a big shock this week when they told her straight out the showstopper wasn't good.

Frances's wedding cake looked miles better than the others. Plus her 'I've learned from this' story fits reality show requirements well.

wintera · 22/10/2013 21:24

I tend to agree with whoever it was upthread who said none of them looked amazing. I can remember last year when they showed John's showstopper and I thought 'wow! He's gonna win with that!'. Even though he wasn't the favourite. Frances's did look the best out of the bunch but it still looked a bit wonky. I've got to say I'm kind of disappointed in that final.

SamHamwidge · 22/10/2013 21:29

For some reason I imagined it to be a two horse race between Kimberly and ruby. Very surprised how warm and fuzzy I feel that lovely Frances won.

fancyanother · 22/10/2013 21:45

I was thinking the showstoppers weren't brilliant this year, especially for a wedding cake. They could have been given more time and told to really go to town. I did think Frances' cake was the prettiest and the only one which I would have been pleased to have as a wedding cake, and even that was a bit simple, although beautiful.

Bunnygotwhacked · 22/10/2013 21:46

I don't think anyone bashed Ruby on her looks it was purely her sulky attitude and the way paul and mary always seemed placate her and i don't think that was just editing. Glens "I've got a feeling it will be ruby" little shrug must of been the most positive comment they could get from the other contestants which says a lot.

I am so so pleased for Francis but now i want cake

Bunnygotwhacked · 22/10/2013 21:48

ack i did it i mean Frances

awaynboilyurheid · 22/10/2013 21:49

Thought that Francis would win see earlier post! delighted for her got quite emotional ! but agree with rootypigit was very disappointing the amount of nastiness jealousy directed at Ruby was disheartening and not in GBBO spirit , kind of made me lose faith a bit in human nature , but she was in the final so should be very proud of herself and has amazing talent too.

They should have given them more time to do that show stopper. I know lack of time adds suspense but this time it just made the cakes look blah. Apart from Frances the rest of the cakes looked like kids did them. Imagine what France's could have made if she'd have had more time.
