Seeing as the first thread is almost full, I thought I'd start a new one Grin

For good measure, here is Monkseal's blog for this week.

Aren't most of these TV competitions fixed, though?

I remember watching that Great British Hairdresser and being Shock at how obviously fixed it was.

I kind of assumed that it was all loosely scripted and they knew from the start who was their 'winner'.

MothershipG · 17/10/2013 14:58

ThePearShapedToad I have just spent ages looking for Daniele Bryden's fab blog but I think she must have taken it down, she's not updating her FB page either, but is active on twitter.

She basically said that she thought the contestants got a bit of a raw deal, minimal expenses, not always nice editing and had to give the rights to all their recipes to the production company.

It's loosely sumerised in this short piece in The Mirror.

ppeatfruit · 17/10/2013 15:12

MothershipI would've supported the beeb in the past but that IS mean about the expenses considering the enormous sums they pay to celebs.
Though you would have to sign something giving them the rights to the recipes so no one is forcing the contestants to take part. Mind you Face Book does that (assumes the rights to anything we put on it) and we don't sign anything.

MsWilliam the beeb are supposed NOT to fix anything but of course it's already been filmed leaving room for doubt Confused

ThePearShapedToad · 17/10/2013 15:30

Thanks mothership, will have to hope Frances or beca writes a tell all blog instead! Grin

mignonette · 17/10/2013 15:45

I suspect that Frances might be a 'disciple' of Christina Tosi from Momofuku and Momofuku Milk Bar in NYC. Her baking has elements of their crazy genius.

Her website and recipes are fabulous and she most definitely will be getting a book deal.

WipsGlitter · 17/10/2013 16:08

I agree, her website is fantastic.

This made me laugh recently:

ppeatfruit · 17/10/2013 21:22

Thanks for Monkseal Viking and note that he also picked up on the spat between Becca and Frances everyone (in fact he quotes it word perfectly) Grin great minds y'know!!!

Also thanks for the buzzfeed link msWiliiam Love the 'tasting' bit!

VikingVagine · 20/10/2013 14:53

Oh god, Liz jones wants Ruby to win too. I may have to review my position!

OP posts:
mousmous · 20/10/2013 15:12

did you also get very tasty pictures between the monkseal paragraphs?
Hmm Confused :o

ppeatfruit · 20/10/2013 16:07

yes mousmous i'm not sure about the overtly 'gay' content of the Monkseal blog I would prefer a more neutral approach. (if it was an over the top straight sexist approach i don't reckon it would be tolerated on here Hmm Confused

honeybeeridiculous · 20/10/2013 19:26

I'm just rewatching Tues episode, of course I've got a life I'm defo rooting for Francis now, I know it's been said a hundred times but FFS Ruby, cheer up! And Kimberley is grating now, not cheese, my nervesGrin she defo wants her own cookery show! And who the fuck cooks in a denim jacket Hmm

nocarsgo · 20/10/2013 23:16

Who cooks in a denim jacket?

Nigella.

KCumberSandwich · 20/10/2013 23:53

re-watching from the start. no life!

rootypig · 21/10/2013 04:28

In an alarmingly grand interview Beca has come out for Kimberley

Quite apart from being delusional ( "I’ve always had a soft spot for Kimberley as we are similar in our cool-headedness and approach to baking and food" Hmm) I have always suspected I don't like Beca and I know I don't like Kimberly and now I know that they like each other, that seals it Grin

VikingVagine · 21/10/2013 08:25

I would like Ruby to win, but I think Frances is going to take first place simply because the editing is making her come across as the most likeable one now (just remember how irritating she seemed at the beginning with her giant matchbox?).

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 21/10/2013 08:52

I agree Viking i also wouldn't mind if Frances or Kim win. You should read the horrible thread about Ruby on here it's unfair IMO people get irritated because she actually shows her feelings [SHOCK] and wears a jacket; sometimes it's cold when they start in that marquee so she wears a jacket SO WHAT!!!!!!!

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 21/10/2013 15:56

I loved Beca and how down-to-earth she was. I never got the impression she was in the least intimidated by Paul H and his dick-swinging. I will miss her.

Kimberley's savoury canapes looked DIVINE. I wanted to scarf all of them. I want her to win. I don't think she's smug, she just loves baking and is pleased when people like her efforts.

Ruby's allotment cake looked like a Blue Peter project circa 1977. Agree it was a blatant double standard for Mary to turn a blind eye to how rickety it was and yet criticise Frances for not making her own pots. I'm a broken record about this, I know, but I'm SO tired of Ruby and her false self-deprecation, not to mention her sulky face.

Mel and Sue are on excellent form at the moment though. And I like Frances a bit more after watching her and Mel do EastEnders voices and faces at each other. Grin

I think the fact that Frances has been rocking up for the last 2-3 months every week with some piece of artwork she's spent a week constructing leaves reasonable grounds for Mary to raise it as an issue.

What are the rules on bringing stuff from home? I don't think it should be allowed, and I certainly don't think you should spend the week building stuff to stick your cakes on.

I'm rooting for Kimberley. I think she's great, and I can't abide Frances and I find Ruby tedious.

KatoPotato · 21/10/2013 16:20

Why does Frances make cakes that seem so unappealing though?Would you want to eat dirt? Or a cigarette cake??

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 21/10/2013 16:25

Don't know about the rules on bringing stuff from home, but I'd imagine a reasonable amount is allowed.

If Frances had had a lot of inedible things on her cake I think Mary would have better grounds. For example, when that guy made the Dalek cake I thought her criticisms were well founded; there was a lot of inedible stuff on there. I thought Frances's pots were more of a small, side embellishment.

KCumberSandwich · 21/10/2013 19:03

when did frances make a cigarette cake Kato? are you talking about the matches or did i miss something?

i kind of thought Ruby's allotment cake was a bit of a feeble attempt at copying Frances' style.

flatpackhamster · 21/10/2013 21:14

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock

Don't know about the rules on bringing stuff from home, but I'd imagine a reasonable amount is allowed.

In that case I think Frances has been unreasonable. Every week there has been at least one purpose-built presentation item. One week there were two, one for the first challenge and one for the last one.
