who do we think will be the early favourites? Who will get to the grand finale? Who will turn most orange?

It's starting now and I am very excited...!

OP posts:
mysticminstrel · 28/09/2013 21:03

AH, I missed that bit, sorry Blush

sassytheFIRST · 28/09/2013 21:03

And WHY is Deborah Measden on it? Doesn't need cash or exposure! Surely this doesn't mean some people go in the show just for the experience? Shock

TheSmittenKitten · 28/09/2013 21:08

I might have misheard, but that is what I thought he said.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/09/2013 21:10

sassy - maybe just because she could and she wanted to? She is so successful and she must have done so many things - it must be hard to find something new and challenging to do.

MelanieCheeks · 28/09/2013 21:13

I didnt think there were rules about who should and shouldnt take part - they're making a teevee show, they want personalities.

sassytheFIRST · 28/09/2013 21:14
Wink
sassytheFIRST · 28/09/2013 21:15

Haha - I typed a response ending in that wink and now only the wink shows!

My tongue was in my cheek re Deborah, ladies.

chickydoo · 28/09/2013 21:53

Marking my place really, but.....I don't think the celebs are quite as good as previous years, more people who can't dance than can IMO....we shall see I guess

PumpUpMyVolume · 28/09/2013 22:16

Ashley still my favourite (so pretty Smile )... although some were ok, none wow'd me tonight and am looking forward to seeing people improve over the weeks as for most of them, the only way is up!

What got into Bruce - he seemed to be saying people were going backwards instead of forwards at the 'keeeeep dancing' bit! Seriously that man needs to retire!!

CloudOfStarlings · 28/09/2013 23:41

Only just caught up.. I actually got a teensy bit bored in tonight's show (and for me to say that is a big deal..I'm a superfan!) think the choreography, song choices and chemistry were all just v lacklustre :( However Dave absolutely cracked me up..proper funny man, and Karen really going for it, mark of a true pro (unlike sour-faced Aliona)..I'm surprised at people's reaction on here!
My sister has been texting me saying Julien is clearly high... but then he's like that every time I've seen him on tv so either he's always high...or he's just a very strange man! Zoe never quite knew what to make of him in his ITT slots last year..
Abbey was the dance of the week for me, and I don't like the pair of them. Just beautiful, simple, gorgeous song & outfits.

BrunoMarsBar · 29/09/2013 04:19

Natalie - can dance ringer - Artem fan fave but their chemistry?
Abbey - left me strangely unmoved graceful though
Rachel - thought it was lovely definite chemistry
Sophie - mannequin decent hold
Susanna - good but frenzied, that cartwheel and likeability?
Patrick - excellent imho but fanbase?
Mark - very good as an underdog despite stage exp. but latin?
Fiona - OK not great hold, Anton steered her thru but Anton's latin?
Deb - Some good bits but Robin worked his arse off
Ashley - let's ogle Ola, go on about baby being due and smile a lot Ugh
Julien - exc armography but like marmite Voted out due to manic pers.?
Tony - only did 12 secs of waltz but routine Aliona cleverly choreoed
Dave - will stay as the Russell Grant John Sergeant carcrash tv wreckage
Vanessa - not good, stood around a lot
Ben - will stay in as eye candy but practically walked his cha cha/Kristina worked her arse off

Fave slebs - Rachel Patrick Mark
Fave pros - Artem Robin Aliona Kristina

Think Vanessa First female out Tony unfairly First male out
Most overrated Ashley then sadly Ben
Most underrated Patrick (not on scores but prob votes long term)

Final: Natalie Rachel Abbey
4th: Susanna
Ben Ashley will make later stages by default
Dave will stay in longer than ought to as #entertainment

Now off to make Brew get a life Grin xx

Fiderer · 29/09/2013 07:11

I'd no idea who some of them are and tend to be v judgmental based on a bit of VT and in Natalie's case, 2 seconds of backstage behaviour. She was doing that impatient finger rolling on her partner's shoulder as Bruce made his hammy remarks. Bad form.

Abbey - can't decide if she's pouty and stroppy or if she was really nervous. And with the floaty dress and what looked face-sucking half the time I don't know if she did any kind of a decent waltz though it did look pretty.

Also, dancey people, Aliona used to be criticised for choreographing for herself rather than her partner. I thought tonight was OK for Tony. Was it?

I must be mellowing, I enjoy Bruce and felt sorry for him the last 2 nights. He seemed anxious to show he was on top of things with his comments to the contestants re their dancing and his quips. And I was pleased that Brendan got a partner who can dance.

Yakky · 29/09/2013 07:51

12 hours later and I'm still Blush for Juliens partner. Looked like she was trying to reign in an over excited toddler.
My DD also thinks he's completely bonkers.....and that was before he started his routine.

saintmerryweather · 29/09/2013 08:01

what i wouldnt give to dance with robin

Impomea · 29/09/2013 08:54

I like Anton and am glad he has got a good partner for once ,though I will miss him whirling Erin round the dance floor.

Don't like Debra she must be full of ego to think she could stand a chance in Strictly.I guess she entered too loose weight .I prefer Vanessa she is more intelligent and better entertainment.

Davros · 29/09/2013 10:24

I like Abby and Deborah

BrunoMarsBar · 29/09/2013 13:07

i know bugger all Fiderer but i did think Aliona did well for Tony - she did the split side sweep things less imho to show herself off but more to distract from his footwork and use some time up not in hold Grin
Her hand on his chest pushing him backwards was clever steering without obv leading him and altogether I think she managed to make him look as good as she could given what she had. you cannot make a silk purse from a sow's ear

But i like her. Many don't do not listen Pan and think her choreo is crap. I am in the minority at adoring the tango with Harry to psycho killer. Loved it and could not care less it only had a small section of trad tango steps as it was a halloween spesh anyway and a really cool number. Also loved her charleston with Matt and her underwater choreo for charidee.

Think she had good grace to step in having been sacked for being a gobshite and also think she has been right royally stitched up.

Also she has taught Tony some basic steps whereas many were dancing twirling doing dazzling distracts around their patners T and A daddys' fave Ola and Kristina and Vanessa - who i still like btw - did bugger all.
Having promised he would not make her into a comedy act James did just that by having her stand there killing time whilst he attempted Antonesque comedy.

need to invest less in this programme

Fiderer · 29/09/2013 13:24

No, don't invest less Bruno Shock

I could c+p the following from every Strictly thread I've been on. When they had 2 dances a week and showed VTs of the training it was not only easier to compare the dances but you could learn what the dance was about and what was important.

And you'd see someone struggling with a move and then nailing it or not on the night and also developing a better line/upper body core/ flicky feet/thumbs down etc. over the weeks. Now it's all a bit frenzied.

And Darcey B is sweet and kind but not great as a judge. If the BBC don't want to bring back Arlene why oh why not bring in Karen Hardy?

Where is that slacker Pan btw?

digerd · 29/09/2013 14:05

I liked Arlene as a judge but she is not ballroom trained she is theatre/stage dance trained. Karen Hardy is ballroom trained/expert and as Len is the only expert in Ballroom, Karen is my choice. Bruno and Craig are also stage dance trained only. Darcy is not a ballroom expert either.

noddyholder · 29/09/2013 14:07

I love strictly! But all the men are terrible dancers and no eye candy either! I love abby

SoupDragon · 29/09/2013 14:07

Who was the man who danced first? He was Ok wasn't he?

noddyholder · 29/09/2013 14:09

Julien definitely odd. He used to go to same clubs parties as me and my mates many moons ago and he was much chubbier and not as manic

MrsBramleyApple · 29/09/2013 14:43

SoupDragon It was Ben Cohen who danced first! He was in the 2003 Rugby World Cup Team! He is 50% deaf in both ears. I tweeted him about my son on Friday and he tweeted me back!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 29/09/2013 14:57

Julien looks like he should sound much camper, but his voice is a bit deep! I wonder if he's one of the people where going out having had a drink to take the edge off would be better (rather than caffeine/nicotine or whatever he's having at the moment).

I think they need to bring back to rules about how long you spend in/out of hold. Yes, Aliona's choreography was clever, but we're meant to be judging on the dancing and it's a bit difficult when they're not doing much. Also, that bit where he went badly out of time probably wouldn't have looked so bad if it had happened in hold, as she could have followed him.

A waltz like is much better, imo. You can see bits going wrong, but at the same time you can see the waltz steps he's trying to do!

Fiderer · 29/09/2013 15:15

Polkadots That's the stuff that interests me, how long in hold etc. We used to hear more about it. One reason I enjoy Karen Hardy's analyses on ITT.
