who do we think will be the early favourites? Who will get to the grand finale? Who will turn most orange?

It's starting now and I am very excited...!

OP posts:
Minimammoth · 09/10/2013 09:35

Where is Anton's dance. I want to see I want to see. < jumps up and down>

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2013 10:52

If you're absolutely ...

I think there's a reason most Latin trousers are black.

ppeatfruit · 09/10/2013 11:22

Thanks polka but I reckon those trousers aren't very erm flat cut at the front it's the way the material falls Grin well maybe something underneath was pushing the material up a bit!!!! Shock

Minimammoth · 09/10/2013 11:37

I think he was carrying an emergency torch just in case of a power cut.

Horsemad · 09/10/2013 12:02
Grin
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2013 12:06

It's a bit like these I suppose Grin

Horsemad · 09/10/2013 12:53

Grin Grin

Not much better in black!

Snowstorm · 09/10/2013 21:47

I thought it might be the box for his mike in there ... but couldn't work out why it would be down the front of his trousers!

Snowstorm · 09/10/2013 21:53

Ha!ha!ha! Mic ... microphone ... not his mike - wheyheyhey!!

Balloonist · 09/10/2013 22:40

Dp reckons it was socks. Every man I've ever met tells me ballerina's put socks down their tights- no woman ever has. Please could someone clarify once and for all if this is a myth spread by men?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2013 23:21

They wear dance belts like these. This one is 'slightly padded', but I don't know if they'd put anything else in there! Maybe a box like you wear for cricket? That would at least give a smooth shape.

(I do remember being out with a group of ballroom friends at university, playing drinking games when everybody was very drunk and one of the questions the boys had to answer was how many times they'd got an erection whilst dancing.)

ppeatfruit · 10/10/2013 09:34

Well well well Polkadots What did they answer?????? Grin Grin You can't leave it there you know!!!!

digerd · 10/10/2013 15:51

Male ballet dancers wear a jock strap, as they were called. Many roles were in white tights, but all you saw was a compact bulge and nothing jiggled or swung during their high jumps or pirouettes.

ppeatfruit · 10/10/2013 15:59

True digerd but some 'bulges' (thinking Nureyev here Grin) were bigger than others Grin. To be serious i wonder why the ballroom males don't wear a jockstrap?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/10/2013 16:55

It had happened to quite a few of them actually. They were saying how they automatically 'dress to the left' after a while Grin

My favourite story was one during a private lesson (as if it wasn't awkward enough), when they were doing samba rolls and he whispered to his partner that "I need to stop for a minute, don't ask why" and she hissed back "I don't have to, I can feel why".

ppeatfruit · 10/10/2013 17:07

Thanks polkaPerhaps there's a male ballroom dancer that can tell us why they don't wear jockstraps (praps it's because they like plenty of ball room Grin Grin) geddit ! sorry folks!!!!

birdbrain21 · 10/10/2013 18:22

just found you guys, spent last year lurking Wink I normally watch on i-player as busy most saturday nights but will enjoy reading everyones comments

FrankelInFoal · 11/10/2013 06:55

We're going to need a new thread in advance of tomorrow night's episode.

TheOneWithTheHair · 11/10/2013 08:00

I'm out again. Honestly, I hardly go out but it happens every year that as soon as Strictly starts I'm really busy.

Thank god for iplayer.

RedPencils · 11/10/2013 18:49

I'm trying to talk our work Xmas do organiser into a Friday night out rather than Saturday so not to clash with the final. .

ilovesooty · 12/10/2013 18:29

We're off!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/10/2013 18:30

Yep I'll start a new thread and link it, so we can move over when we get to the end of this one Smile

Fiderer · 12/10/2013 18:33

Craig as vicar Grin

I was wondering how long the pros get to rehearse their routines. Are they all so seasoned that it's quick and slick and fairly effortless?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/10/2013 18:33

New thread for when we get to 1000

I liked that group dance!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/10/2013 18:35

I think they rehearse in August Fid, so they're all choreographed and practised, and only need a quick polish on the Friday/Saturday.
