....We are expecting not to have any pain? How bloody patronising and smug did he sound? And if there is any pain we are just going to have to overcome it. Hmm

At least he said that, if it got too bad, it would be up to her - as long as she actually does steel she can choose drugs if she needs them.

Far too much we going on there for my liking - but I have a headache, and have just made the most crap dinner ever, so it is possible I am in a bit of a grumpy mood.

Was wondering where the thread was for this programme....What is he like? I know English isn't her first language but still....

hmsvictoria · 03/09/2013 21:49

No, I made a good dinner and don't have a headache and he's giving me the creeps too.

ArfurFoulkesayke · 03/09/2013 21:49

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming it's a language thing, both some of his phrasing and the fact he's talking for her.
But it made me v uncomfortable indeed.

2468Motorway · 03/09/2013 21:49

Yeah a little bit creepy! She has so little control because of the language barrier. To be fair he also might be a bit lost in translation.

ArfurFoulkesayke · 03/09/2013 21:50

Here he is again

2468Motorway · 03/09/2013 21:52

No one was that nice about me and my drug free labours.

The lady translator is more involved than they previously showed.

LickleLemon · 03/09/2013 21:53

I too was looking to see if anyone else had started a thread.

Same thoughts here. Is he deciding everything for her???

Oh dear they have had to move her to delivery suite.

MissStrawberry · 03/09/2013 21:55

Thank God baby is okay but dad is a prat.

"Clever"?

ethelb · 03/09/2013 21:57

I came on here looking for this.

Seriously creepy bloke. He has a God complex or something. Weird.

CryingGivesMeAHeadache · 03/09/2013 21:58

He was weird. How on earth does a scan hurt the baby?!

ethelb · 03/09/2013 22:00

And how can you be so weird about iron tablets when it has been shown that the diet she is on hasnt alleviated anaemia?

HoneywithLemon · 03/09/2013 22:03

No iron tablets, no scans, no gas and air, no antibiotics.

ethelb · 03/09/2013 22:04

Ok, the no scans thing is weird. But are you really going to be chased across a delivery suit by someone waving penicillin?

LovelyMarchHare · 03/09/2013 22:07

I too watched and thought 'im going to look at MN as soon as it's over'. How she didn't tell him to feck off during all that stomach rubbing I will never understand.

PickledMoomin · 03/09/2013 22:07

I wondered whether he had made all of the decisions. Why did they need a translator? How does he communicate with his wife?
The mw listed iron-rich foods but she couldn't eat 98% of them.
She did so well though and I'm glad they were both okay.

ethelb · 03/09/2013 22:10

@pickled presumably so the midwife could be sure she was really saying the things her husband said she was. It's not ideal to have a family member translating in a medical setting.

PickledMoomin · 03/09/2013 22:18

Is that always the case or do you think it was suggested because of the circumstances and his seemingly controlling behaviour?

Umlauf · 03/09/2013 22:22

I've not watched it yet but due any day with dc1 and I'm in Spain and don't speak Spanish AND we don't get an interpreter and I'm really scared!!!! Is it a bad idea to watch this episode? I was going to relax with it tomorrow on iplayer...

PictureThis · 03/09/2013 22:25

He was very odd, I liked the way the midwife gently pointed out to him that his wife has the final say. As an aside, tie and jumper...at his age?!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/09/2013 22:25

The midwife did seem a bit concerned that she wasn't hearing what Gisele wanted.

In my opinion the father should get little or no say in pain relief in labour - unless there was some situation in which the mum couldn't make the decision.

I came looking for this thread too Grin Thought that couple were bonkers and I secretly hoped she required loads if drugs and intervention. He was just a sinister knob.

ananikifo · 03/09/2013 22:29

pickled it is NHS policy to use professional interpreters, not family members.

umlauf it is unlikely that you will identify with this couple. They refused all scans, iron tablets for anaemia, medications, etc. The wife is pretty much silent and the husband does a lot of talking on her behalf.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/09/2013 22:33

I wanted to have as natural a birth as possible each time, but not in the sort of fanatical way that was the impression he gave. And why was pain relief about what he wanted at all? It has nothing to do with him, surely? If dh had been interpreting for me, he wouldn't have said "we don't want any drugs", he would have said "SDTG doesn't want any drugs" - big, big difference, IMO.
