Midwives (BBC2) - We are expecting not to have any pain...

....We are expecting not to have any pain? How bloody patronising and smug did he sound? And if there is any pain we are just going to have to overcome it. Hmm

At least he said that, if it got too bad, it would be up to her - as long as she actually does steel she can choose drugs if she needs them.

Far too much we going on there for my liking - but I have a headache, and have just made the most crap dinner ever, so it is possible I am in a bit of a grumpy mood.

I thought the birth choices clinic mw was a bit judgemental about the mum who chose the cs too Hmm

Meglet · 05/09/2013 21:04

Totally agree amandine. She was awfully sneery about it.

Yonionekanobe · 05/09/2013 21:22

Completely agree. 'Choices' is a laughable term in this case!

Wickedgirl · 05/09/2013 21:47

I have never had a cs but I did feel that the lady was right to have a second cs after the trauma of her first baby. How dare that midwife try to suggest that a "normal" delivery would have been better? Everyone of us facing childbirth needs to do what what is best for mum and baby, not what is cheaper for the NHS.

That Russian guy was very odd. I watched with my dd(15) and said to her that if anyone had touched me (let alone rubbed my contracting stomach), I would have thumped them bloody hard.

just catching up with this - I knew there's be a thread.

And as for the midwife saying I'm disappointed that lady went for a section? Do fuck off love.

LynetteScavo · 06/09/2013 19:07

Grin @ Yonionekanobe.

I worked for a couple like that twenty years ago...both their DC are now, um...very different to their parents.

If my DH had touched my stomach like that when I was contracting he would have been punched in the face.

MrsDibble · 10/09/2013 17:06

I have been looking for this thread too! Watched it last week and it's been on my mind about that husband.

Really think the hospital should have made sure there was a proper translator there - someone mentioned one above but I could see no evidence on the programme. At the very least the midwife should have told him to translate directly for the wife and not just sum up what "we" want.

Very freaked out by this bloke like everyone else.

It did come across as a massive doubt that it was really this woman's decision to have no pain relief. Not even a paracetamol...

Hopefully it was just the edit of the programme that made it look like he was making all the decisions - maybe the hospital had done more to check these really were her views and it just didn't come across. Certainly hope so!

DulcetMoans · 10/09/2013 21:18

I'm watching! No tears though. Lol.

mrsharrystyles · 10/09/2013 21:23

What a lovely midwife.

DIddled · 10/09/2013 21:32

Agh! That poor girl needing a pacemaker!

mrsharrystyles · 10/09/2013 21:34

It just brings home to me how lucky I was to have three straightforward pregnancies, and three healthy babies.

DIddled · 10/09/2013 21:35

Omg! The op on baby Bella!!!!

DulcetMoans · 10/09/2013 21:37

So neat though, geniuses really those surgeons!

Nellelephant · 10/09/2013 21:42

Watching this has made me nervous. I'm waiting on test results to confirm a genetic heart condition :( hoping I'll get to be a mum one day.

DIddled · 10/09/2013 21:43

I love the lady's husband- what a wonderful positive man (cries again!!)

DIddled · 10/09/2013 21:45

Oh Nell- good luck! As you see these days, these things can be overcome! Good luck xx

mrsharrystyles · 10/09/2013 21:45

This is all so sad. I'm crying too now.

DIddled · 10/09/2013 21:48

My God! Steph is awake having that pacemaker fitted!!! Thank God she is ok!

DulcetMoans · 10/09/2013 21:51

Wonder why they keep her awake! Sounds like pretty major surgery to be awake for!

This couple are amazing really.

DIddled · 10/09/2013 21:55

Sob! The mum with dwarfism - she is so happy and her baby is so cute. Husband is a dish as well and obviously besotted!!!

EeTraceyluv · 10/09/2013 21:58

Cried all the way through. DD3 has the same genetic condition as me - we had no idea - and that whole guilt thing..it's so awful. Brave women all of them.

DIddled · 10/09/2013 22:01

Awww Tracey!!! Xxx you gave her life - biggest gift of all whatever it brings xxx

ringaringarosy · 11/09/2013 09:25

well actually we dont do vaccinations or iron tablets or antibiotics either, there are alternatives!i also know people who have refused scans as they are not actually proven to be safe, they are just not proven to be unsafe, which isnt the same thing.
also agree that pain isnt always a given in childbirth!

have to say though i didnt like the way he was speaking for her but language is a barrier isnt it i suppose, and he was a bit creepy. My dh doesnt really get involved he just lets me get on with it,i only really like him there for the last bit when im pushing to hold my hand and to say awwww when the babies born and give me a kiss and tell me how clever i am!
