Did you see the body? :(

OP posts:

The teacher in the basement - he was Mr Collins in the 1995 Colin Firth BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. I've been racking my brains wondering what I'd seen him in before!

Watched on iplayer last night, found it intriguing. Agree with earlier poster who said there's a parallel with the detective's character & woman who'd disappeared - both isolated people & without a role at work/no family. May not be Jessica in the attic? Not sure if they just assumed it was her or were sure it was her.......will have to watch parts of it again......

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 27/08/2013 19:30

Mr Collins! Of course. I have been wondering.

I love mumsnet. Questions even get answered before you ask them.

KhloeKardashian · 27/08/2013 19:33

He was Mr Collins. Now was Mrs Collins the one in bed with the divorced Dad?

XBenedict · 27/08/2013 19:36

I'm not convinced the body in the attic is Melissa. Maybe Melissa found a body in the attic and somehow became her, took her ID, changed her appearance and she is now the character that did a runner? Too bizarre? Probably! It's good though Smile

valiumredhead · 27/08/2013 19:38

Is the body Mellisa's mother's?

SalaciousCrumb · 27/08/2013 20:08

bound to be something like that XBen!

The Mr Collins actor (don't know his name) is good at playing creepy characters! I wonder why his ex-pupil is his seemingly domestic slave.....

SalaciousCrumb · 27/08/2013 20:09

.....I'll probably refer to him as Mr Collins now...

Animation · 27/08/2013 20:10

This is great. I like this inspector character (Threlfall) - warm and kind .. and interviews with a steady patient concentration .. non threateningly.

The guy downstairs who gets his dinner on a tray from a young curly haired woman looks the obvious one to me.

VerucaInTheNutRoom · 27/08/2013 20:36

Kieron's girlfriend was the mother in Larkrise to Candleford.

LillianGish · 27/08/2013 21:39

It won't be Mr Collins - much too obvious. More likely to be the girl who has just moved in (if not the detective himself) - I just can't work out how or why yet! Loving it.

bootsycollins · 27/08/2013 23:15

Ooooh good one XBen your onto something there I bet Wink

KhloeKardashian · 27/08/2013 23:33

Mr Collins

Mrs Collins

SalaciousCrumb · 28/08/2013 11:51

Ah I see. Mum in Lark Rise to Candleford/Cranford was also Mrs Collins in the Keira Knightly Pride and Prejudice.

KhloeKardashian · 28/08/2013 20:27

Yes, Mrs Collins and Mr Collins in different Pride and Prejudice versions.

MorrisZapp · 28/08/2013 22:46

The lesser spotted half of the lesbian couple was also a Larkrise alum, she was the quieter of the catty spinster sisters.

Well spotted re Mr Collins. Fawning horror that he was.

I loved it. I actually lol'ed at the bit where Frank G 'well she'd have been feeling better then!' re the anti depressants. Good point well made Frank, I'm on ADs and they make me much less inclined to top myself.

Can't wait for the next one.

SalaciousCrumb · 29/08/2013 23:01

So we have Frank, Mr & Mrs Collins & Larkrise sister.

Mr Collins was also ages ago in a university doctor's practice thing with Peter Davison. Just off to google.

Best Mr Collins I've seen, comically slithery in the 1995 production!

LittleAbruzzenBear · 30/08/2013 10:16

Hi, new to the thread. I just watched the first episode. A minor thing, but I think it's going to be important somehow (this where I'll open my mouth and be proved wrong). When the detective was in the attic, he picked up a swimsuit/lingerie brochure and the female detective joked about 'titillation'. I think it belonged to the murderer.

The guy in the basement has keys to all the flats and is def creepy, but is too obvious. Is that his daughter living in his flat? Why is she like a prisoner and why is she wearing old lady clothes? Did you notice she had to have his dinner ready as soon as he got in.

The house is really creepy. The exterior is a house in Greenwich, but the interior was built in a studio because the production designer had the house in her head, but couldn't find one that met up with her thoughts...so her team built it.

Overthinking...

valiumredhead · 30/08/2013 10:28

She's not his daughter, she's his former pupil. That's why the guy that just moved on recognised her through the window as they went to the same school.

valiumredhead · 30/08/2013 10:29

Oh I wonder where in Greenwich,I know that area well.

LittleAbruzzenBear · 30/08/2013 11:37

Oops, I missed that bit Valium!

MorrisZapp · 31/08/2013 12:24

I used to live in a converted house like that and I hated it. I hated having an interior door as my front door.

In Scotland flat dwellers are mostly in purpose built blocks, either the old style tenements or newer build apartments.

I think Bridget Jones lived in a conversion too, great location but grim communal area. Lights on a timer, ew. Those timed lights might prove pivotal to the plot.

Oh and the adorable Steven Mackintosh has been in loads, but I love him best as Scrooges nephew in the Muppet Christmas Carol. Lets have a roll call:

Mr and Mrs Collins
Larkrise sister
Frank
Scrooge's nephew

SalaciousCrumb · 31/08/2013 22:52

Werewolf (Russell Tovey) in Being Human

Any more?

Also Luther's wife who was done in by his mate Steven MacIntosh!

guineapiglet · 01/09/2013 19:34

Hi all another one who had just caught up on iplayer..found it v intriguing and really well acted cant wait for tonights episode. I really love Steven Mackintosh he is always worth watching. Its good drama, building up the plot and characters slowly...
The house reminded me of the one in Luther lots of levels and darkly creepy!

valiumredhead · 01/09/2013 19:51

I'm all set for tonight, sky plus all setGrin

Tee2072 · 01/09/2013 20:52

I was wondering why my thread was so dead last week, y'all were here!

I thought it was rather dull, but we'll see what happens.
