And so it begins....

OP posts:
ExactlyWhat · 26/08/2013 21:46

I'm here.. Predicting that Sophie is going to have some kind of meltdown.
Don't think she will cope very well with everyone looking quite anti her at the moment.
Didn't realise Abz has aspergers...did anyone?

Jellykat · 26/08/2013 22:02

No, i didn't know that about Abz either, he's had a rough time really hasn't he?..
Carols irritating me almost as much as Sophie now!

oldsilver yeah but if Jeff Goldbloom was to appear if i grew some dinosaurs, i'd have a bloody good go too!.. hubba hubba

oldsilver · 26/08/2013 22:27

Grin I hear you jelly

Sparklysilversequins · 26/08/2013 22:28

No I didn't know that but now a lot about him makes sense. I have a ds AND a dd with High Functioning Autism so Abz is my champion now. Really want him to succeed Smile.

Sparklysilversequins · 26/08/2013 22:34

Grin Lauren's trying to get rid of all the other middle aged women isn't she? She's so transparent.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 26/08/2013 23:18

Watching Sunday's. Didn't take Ron long to show his true colours.

Glad Danielle is up.

Flibbedyjibbet · 26/08/2013 23:29

Please fill in some (2) gaps for me....

who is the G mentioned earlier am having a mental block?

What was Rons off the cuff remark about a headscarf?

Am a bit confused about Sophie drinking. When people are rehabilitated for an addiction like coke they are generally told to avoid other substances like alcohol as the addiction can be easily transferable.

I'm so happy that there are others in here that will avidly watch it like me.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 26/08/2013 23:35

Daniell had a jumper or something over her head like a head scarf. Ron said he hoped she didn't have a bomb.

Flibbedyjibbet · 27/08/2013 08:29

Oh my god, what an idiot. Really doesn't help in his plight to reverse public opinion on his previous bigoted comment.

mrsjay · 27/08/2013 08:48

she may not have been drinking but she was slurring ( i nearly typed slutting Blush ) her words,

when is it repeated I watched The dark knight rises probably should have been watching horizon sounds exciting

Chipstick10 · 27/08/2013 09:13

Lauren is indeed transparent, and so deluded its a worry, I'm sure viewers who like her think she is in on the joke, she's not.
Louis is a cutting, bitter little bitch
Sophie is in a Buble of Sophie love
Vicks is a bit of a Lovie
I quite like Ron and feel a bit sorry for him.
Abs is dull. Where in the West Indies does he come from? The accent is ridiculous
Charlotte wouldn't even appeal to me if I was young
Courtney seems ok if a little bit much
As an avid viewer of towie I can't get on board with the mario love
Bruce is boring and on the edge
Danielle. Meh
Dustin is trying to make an impression and may do when the house empties a bit
Carol and drink not a great combo.
So far it's not a great series. Bb interfering too much and giving power to certain housemates is unfair
Too much power being taken away from the viewers.

mrsjay · 27/08/2013 09:20

Lauren has spent her life being deluded about things her antiques thingw as a fake her parents coached him , his parents are a bit shady so of course lauren is going to be deluded I feel sorry for her but I dont think she is a very nice person ,

Feenie · 27/08/2013 10:06

That would be her, not him/his, mrs jay. I don't remember anyone getting confused when referring to Nadia as female.

I do agree re her delusion though - her parents have most certainly manipulated her all the way - to the extent that the only therapist Lauren saw to counsel her through her sex change was her mother, who awarded herself the qualification. Hmm

mrsjay · 27/08/2013 10:11

I meant when she was a little boy doing her antiques thing he was called james and his parents coached HIM why are you so bloody picky feenie it is infurating I said her then him jeez

Feenie · 27/08/2013 10:17

I'm picky because I don't want MN to be part of any transgender discrimination - we are better than that, no? - and because there seems to be an awful lot of it directed towards Lauren, where there absolutely wasn't towards Nadia - I wonder why that is?

I recognise that you thought it was appropriate to use 'he' historically - it isn't, by the way - she had her sex change in 2001. Then you said 'his' parents were a bit shady - that's not historical. I am sure you wouldn't want to be offensive to the transgender community either.

mrsjay · 27/08/2013 10:19

I wasn't discriminating against her though if you read my post properly and understood what I said you will see i did say she and he at appropriate parts of the posts, when lauren was a boy her parents coached him there is no discrimination intended his parents were shadey for coaching their son, I do understand about trandgender I am not ignorant and lauren talks about herself as a boy

Feenie · 27/08/2013 10:23

But most people in the transgender community think of themselves as always being of that gender, and find historical references to themselves as the opposite gender offensive and upsetting.

I realise that you thought that was appropriate and that you didn't mean to offend - I am suggesting that it isn't.

Feenie · 27/08/2013 10:25

I didn't see anyone refer to Nadia as he/him - historically or otherwise. Was that because she appeared to be more feminine - or more likeable, perhaps? It's a genuinely interesting point.

buss · 27/08/2013 10:29

I missed the bit where abz said he had aspergers!
SA needs to back off from him and stop telling him to change his behaviour...I really hope BB intervenes there.
I've always laughed at his accent but I feel bad now...I wonder if it's linked to his ASD as presumably he has communication difficulties.

mrsjay · 27/08/2013 10:30

well this post isn't about nadia if it was I would probably say the same as in past tense not all trans gendered people deny their past gender some are ok about talking about it,

mrsjay · 27/08/2013 10:32

nadia wasn't likeable I though she was a horrible nasty woman who threw a wobbly everytime she couldnt get fags

mrsjay · 27/08/2013 10:33

Abz grew up in london where they probably all spoke like him it is more than likely where he grew up than putting on an accent,

mrsjay · 27/08/2013 10:35

I mean an area of London not all Londoners speak like Abz obviously Grin

thornrose · 27/08/2013 10:37

I'm looking at Abz in a whole new light now too, Abz to win Grin

I hope he can raise some awareness of Aspergers/autism just by being there.

Feenie · 27/08/2013 10:38

If you look at pretty much any information regarding how to respect a transgender person (many UK councils publish some - there are children as well as adults who are transgender, remember, all of it would cite not using the incorrect pronoun to describe a person in the past, because of the reason stated - many people have always thought of themselves as a certain gender, Nadia included, so it's pretty obvious.

Of course all transgender people are different. But it isn't a huge leap to understand why referring to a lady as he/him, etc to describe historical situations could be offensive, whether that's intended or not, as in your case.
