Paul Hollywood does piss me off tbh, but I love seeing all the cakes & stuff. Will probably have to make something to eat whilst watching it though...

Gracelo - those look gorgeous - though my german isn't up to translating the recipe. If you make them, you should post a picture, so we can all marvel.

I am contemplating making banana, walnut and date loaf today - as I have rather a lot of squishy bananas in the fruit bowl. Why is it that my dses tell me they like bananas, but then don't eat the bloody things forcing me to make cake with them?!

Banana cake is in the oven, and smelling gorgeous. And I had enough squishy bananas to make two big loaves. I am wondering whether I can freeze one of them ha ha, who am I kidding, it will vanish like snow on a sunny bank.

I'm going to bake blackberry coconut squares (BBC Goodfood recipe) for a MacMillan coffee morning at work tomorrow. We have a glut of brambles and I made 3 differently spiced bramble jams already.
Banana loafs freeze well as far as I remember.

DS1(11) made scones today. I supervised.

They're not bad but I may keep one or two back in case of zombie invasion. Good to have weapons handy.

How do you make banana loaf that isn't sticky and wet in the middle? I can't ever get it to be not soggy iyswim?

I went in the Nordic Bakery last weekend and ordered one of their specialities, a cinnamon bun, expecting it to be a bit like a pain au chocolate. It was like a neutron star - heavy, dense, sweet, sticky. I thought I didn't really like it but then couldn't stop eating it and only had a morsel to give DH when he arrived as we were "sharing"! I'm surprised no-one made those.

carabos I use a recipe from an old good food magazine called Paul's banana bread. (Paul Hollywood recipe) . I substitute the chocolate chips for sultanas and only use half the sugar stipulated and its dead easy and delicious.

I read that monkseal blog and thought it was rather dull and unoriginal. There's some far more interesting and funny comments on MN IMO

I did think the blog wasn't up to its usual standard this week.

Ruby is getting on my tits more than ever. Transparently fishing for compliments. The judges seem to be pandering to it, too.

Kimberley seems to have lost her mojo slightly but I think she'll rally this week.

Liked the two lots of chai buns on last week's episode. Howard's peachy buns looked lovely and the name (obviously) made me giggle, but I agree with Paul and Mary, if they don't taste of peach what's the point?

Lady I LIKE Ruby IMO she just has low self esteem and lacks the confidence that should come with age (old gimmer speaking ) I also enjoyed the way Mary and Paul told her off, she may well listen to them and Mel!!

Didn't mind Glenn crying as he's usually quite stoic. Thought it was a genuine burst of emotion, rather than 'for the cameras', and therefore allowable

I did, although it was obviously based on youthful naivety and arrogance rather than anything concrete I think plenty of people are secure and confident at 20.
