Very excited!

Paul Hollywood does piss me off tbh, but I love seeing all the cakes & stuff. Will probably have to make something to eat whilst watching it though...

OP posts:
LeGavrOrf · 18/09/2013 10:17

Lol at gracelo as a Bavarian not recognising a Bavarian clock tower Grin

LeGavrOrf · 18/09/2013 10:18

Ruby is beautiful. Dd can't stand her and says she is disingenuous.

I think we spend 80% of our time picking holes in all the contestants, 19% laughing and Mel and Sue's japes and just the 1% talking about the actual bakes.

ExitPursuedByADragon · 18/09/2013 10:25

Ruby is never only 18 Shock

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 18/09/2013 10:25

Why does 'large' have to equal 'grotesque'? Understandable if they were making something that was meant to be delicate and they came out big and clumsy-looking, but it was a traybake and lots of them were chunky. I think Glenn's looked beautiful with all its chocolate and pistachios.

Ruby isn't nervy; I agree with LeGavrOrf's DD that she is disingenuous.

ArtisanLentilWeaver · 18/09/2013 11:36

Who does the wicked GBBO reviews, please? It was mentioned earlier but I can't find it.

Gracelo · 18/09/2013 11:51

It's true though LeGavrOrf clocktowers isn't really what comes to my mind when thinking about Bavaria. It's Zwiebelturm that is typical for Bavaria. Also, it's Oktoberfest time in Munich which makes me think of lots of very very very drunk people, most of them not Bavarians.
I'd love to try Christine's biscuits nevertheless in what ever shape she stacks them, lemon and lavender and orange an cardamom all sounds fab, oooh, cardamom is probably my favourite spice of all.

Pachacuti · 18/09/2013 12:04

Just catching up...

PMSL at "Frances has had another one of her ideas..." from Mel and "PLEASE, not the design..." from Mary Grin.

Surprised to see Rob go, but I suppose that he did have a worse week than anyone else. And I liked "I think I'm going to go home and boil something".

Christine is really coming into her own mid-series.

eddiemairswife · 18/09/2013 13:37

Paul Hollywood fancies Ruby. I'm waiting to see the Daily Mail headlines later this year!!

RussiansOnTheSpree · 18/09/2013 13:53

I think he doesn't seem to like her any more than he likes Kimberley. But it's irrelevant since they are all being judged on their baking, Paul is a professional and he is only one of the judges anyway.

Ruby clearly has strengths in some areas (basically, bread) and weakness in others (pastry). She is also better prepared than some of the others even though she doesn't spend as much time practising some weeks - remember last week when they couldn't get those yukky custardy things out of the trays? She was the only one who had identified this possible problem and had made little greaseproof paper hammocks to lift out each custardy monstrosity. I think she is probably limited as a baker due to lack of experience but she clearly has skill and intelligence which is helping her do better than some more experienced people. It's not her fault she is pretty, she doesn't seem to be trying to play on that at all, she isn't all glammed up etc. Neither, to be fair, are any of the women. I think it's a real shame for people to reduce the competition to that, to be honest.

wintera · 18/09/2013 14:03

Russian - you've written exactly what I was thinking - thank you!

On another note there was a comment upthread about Ruby being only 18. Just checked on the BBC bake off site and she is actually 20.

WorksforPOTUS · 18/09/2013 14:10

'paul obviously doesn't like beca' - What??!!? Confused

thought howard was for the chop for sure... but agree with rob to go.

what's the fuss though about biscuit structures? I really HATE HATE HATE it when food is overstyled and this week's 'showstopper' was all about overstyling. 'let's take some fairly ordinary biscuits and apply whatever we can to them to make them look like something they are not!!!' aarrrgggh. darlek was probably for me the worst example of it so on that basis alone i rob was going to be my choice.

wintera · 18/09/2013 14:26

I don't think Paul dislikes Becca. When she gets it right he is very complimentary. There was one ep when you saw him walking up to her at the end and he said something like 'you absolutely nailed that! Well done'.

Echocave · 18/09/2013 14:51

Last night's episode was hilarious really.

I'm sad Rob's gone as I will miss his slightly bonkers designs but despite being good in the first week, he hasn't been very successful since. That Dalek was very funny - although Mary's face was a picture during the glue/cocktail stick exchange.

It was interesting to see a few reversals in the standings as it slightly opens the competition. I still think Kimberley is probably the most talented baker (although I'm afraid I still dislike her/the way she's being edited - she is a horribly smug goody goody).

RussiansOnTheSpree · 18/09/2013 15:11

I don't think she is smug, I think she is a bit arrogant. She's clearly the most competitive though. So she will probably win. she wants it the most. Her and the Plasmavore.

Echocave · 18/09/2013 15:15

Hmm that could well be what it is. Well I suppose it is a competition so you can't blame her for that!
Just not coming over very well.

PigStack · 18/09/2013 15:16

Dd can't stand her and says she is disingenuous.

I agree, she stands pigeon-toed/knock-kneed as though she's just an itty bitty child and irritates me beyond belief and when she is kicked out she will sob buckets - like the woman-child that she is.
I'm hoping for Kimberly to win but I do think the contestants aren't anything on last years - where the three finalists were all excellent throughout.
I love GBBO!!

RussiansOnTheSpree · 18/09/2013 15:22

Ruby didn't look like an 'itty bitty child' when she was walloping that dough the other week. She does not stand pigeon toed or knock kneed. That is a ridiculous thing to say. And rather unpleasant. Interesting that your favourite is probably the most unpleasant person left in.

ExitPursuedByADragon · 18/09/2013 15:34

Bread buns at dawn

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 18/09/2013 15:35

Grin at 'custardy monstrosity'

Echocave · 18/09/2013 15:54

Haha Exit, I bet Ruby and Kimberley are v nice in real life!

Btw my brother knew Mel and Sue for a while some years ago (though has lost touch). Mel IS that sweet. She's apparently lovely.

Gracelo · 18/09/2013 15:54

Ruby's got a blog and the writing is hilarious. I think you have to be 20 and a philosophy student to write like this.
The cakes and other stuff look great though and if I could get greengages in Scotland I'd be off to make that greengages and almond tart once I had recovered from reading gems like: My first ever greengage: the sun is perched at the apex of the day, blanching the houses and driveways and yellow grass until the whole street wavers white and paper-thin in the heat. I am flattened into myself, shadowless in....

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2013 15:57

Russians - I am genuinely baffled - what is it that makes you say that Kimberley is the most unpleasant person left in? What has she done that is so bad?

Floralnomad · 18/09/2013 16:03

Just joining in here , my mum said to me today that she thinks Paul fancies Ruby ,my DD thinks that Kimberley is coming across as 'smug' ,but I think its the editing . I can't stand Beca , don't know why but I just find her intensely irritating .

ExitPursuedByADragon · 18/09/2013 16:08

I meant things were getting a bit heated on here.
