Is there a general Emmerdale thread?

I've found a couple of threads about particular characters but was wondering if there was one just for general observations and if we could have a hands up to see if anyone else cried at Brenda's hair thing. I thought all those tears and smiles looked real

Do I need to get a life? Blush

Yes the coat did look a bit big maybe it was just that- although i noticed a good bit if the old 'purse held infront of tummy' business going on.

How did victoria afford to buy alan's house? Im confused. I thought she was just a lodger.

Ellenora5 · 31/10/2013 00:53

I think she bought it with money left to her by her Dad, why she bought it I will never know, who buys a house with two old codgers living in it and agrees to them living there, I think it was Bettys house actually but I could be wrong on that, it's confusing isn't it Confused

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 31/10/2013 00:57

Yes i think you're right- it was bettys house. I wonder why betty sold it? Confused

I also wonder why i dont know this having hardly missed an episode in 20 years Grin

Ellenora5 · 31/10/2013 01:02

Grin I'm the same, I should know everything about it, I even remember when it was emmerdale farm, and there was lots of farming talk Smile and Annie was the stalwart of the village.

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 31/10/2013 01:14

Ooh yes! I remember annie!

ScaryHalloweenName · 31/10/2013 11:27

Betty sold the house to release money IIRC

Pegfreak · 31/10/2013 16:36

What was the story with Lorraine Chase? Was she Marlon's wife's mum and had she fallen out with Alan? Why is she in jail?

ScaryHalloweenName · 31/10/2013 16:48

She is Alan's daughter and Trisha's mum.

RaisingthedeadArizona · 31/10/2013 17:42

I used to live next door to Sheila Mercier (annie sugden) She once asked me in to zip up her ball gown. That's my claim to fame. And once she had the cast round for drinkies on the lawn. I didn't realise she was having a do. It was a hot summer night and I popped out to bring in the washing at about 9pm (in old leggings, and with a face and hair pack on) only to see Joe and Annie Sugden and a load of other actoooors all with drinks in their hands milling round her lawn. We had a 3 foot fence between our houses so I was horribly visible. I sort of waved and smiled, grabbed my washing and ran back in. Oh the shame!

Ruffcat · 01/11/2013 00:05

Bloody Katie, why is she back? She is so annoying swanning around with her hand out waiting for money. I just don't get why she would come back!

qazxc · 01/11/2013 10:18

Oh thank god SS have set AMY straight. Seeing her sulk about it like a petulant teenager just enforces that Kyle is far better off with lovely Joanie. Val seems to still think that Eric is the villain in the piece though Confused.
I have a horrible feeling that it might not be the end of it though.

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 01/11/2013 10:27

Im not a big katie fan but i really enjoyed watching declan frothing at the mouth last night and how she asked megan to bring her bags in Grin

Btw- wasnt cain being a bit bloody obvious turning up at declans with £60k in cash ten minutes after a load of cars were stolen? I would have thought cain would be prime suspect without him even doing that!

So glad amy was put straight. I wonder if that was always emmerdales plan or did they spend some time on MN and take on board our comments Grin

Straitjacket · 01/11/2013 13:56

Yes, reallyglad they put Amy straighttoo. She was beginning to drive me barmy! But I hate to say, Amy isn't done yet...

Cain didn't hide the fact it was him to Declan. He pointed out to him that he basically was in no position other than to accept the cash and claim on the insurance given how desperate Declan is. But he would only hand over the cash if Declan wrote off the debt Moira owed him. Megan also pitched in and told Declan he had no other choice so he agreed.

RaisingArizona · 01/11/2013 14:29

Am also wondering why Katie is back. Unless it's just to ensure that Declan thoroughly and truly goes through every possible humiliation - having to accept that money off Cain and be shown up by Megan and having the villagers loathe him for selling off their homes etc.

qazxc · 01/11/2013 19:47

I have the rage whenever someone says about Amy "but she's his mam!". No she fucking isn't! expelling a human being out of your uterus is not all takes to being a mother! And to say to Joanie is even crappier, totally dismisses her daughter, i don't know how she doesn't end up screaming at them.

Elovena · 01/11/2013 21:34

Would it be possible for Cain to get a custody of Kyle as he is the biological father and (afaik) hasn't officially given his consent for Kyle to be adopted?

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 01/11/2013 21:35

Ok Victoria actress deffo pregnant. She had the obligatory cushion infront of belly on the sofa in the cafe. Grin

Elovena · 01/11/2013 21:39

Well I just googled it and i may be onto something..
www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adoption-facts-understanding-the-birthfathers-righ.html

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 02/11/2013 01:59

elovena I wondered that too when it showed him 'meeting' kyle tonight. I can see him getting all thoughtful about it and deciding he wants to see his child now that he's turned all moral and what not.

it would be awful for the kyle and joanie though if cain did do that.

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 02/11/2013 02:03

although that dummies link sounds American so not sure if same applies in UK (or soapland- they seem to have different rules aswell Grin)

qazxc · 02/11/2013 07:33

Total speculation from my part.
I imagine that the if the father is not on birth cert (which i doubt Cain would have agreed to), his consent his not needed as the birth mother might not know who the bio father is in quite a few cases.
If he was on birth cert, I would imagine he would have only have been too happy to sign off on putting Kyle up for adoption as he was very anti Amy keeping Kyle at the time.
I might be totally wrong though, although as soapland make up their own rules why can't I? Grin

EekandDoubleEek · 02/11/2013 09:36

The only way I can see it making any sense for either Amy and/or Cain to get custody of Kyle is if anything happened to Joanie. It did seem very 'portentious' Cain holding his little boys hand though. Why would the writers do that if the story line was ending now that Amy has been told by SS she has no rights to Kyle? Watch this space.

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 02/11/2013 11:27

I agree eek. That bit was opening the door for something.

qazxc · 02/11/2013 11:29

the only way that Amy will get her hands on Kyle is if she kidnaps him which she is daft and selfish enough to do IMO.
Surely if Kyle was handed back to Cain, which i don't think is likely but then again it is soapland, he would live with him and Moira?
Or else they could tie the 2 in together where Cain kidnaps Kyle and hands him to Amy who then makes a run for it because he feels crap about the way he treated her at the time.

RubberBullets · 02/11/2013 11:37

Cain is still mourning the baby he lost with Moira.
