Your 'Golden Memories' of Corrie

sensesworkingovertime · 31/05/2013 20:18

As one of the Corrie Queens on the main thread I continue, along with the other MNers to regularly bash our beloved Corrie, then I had an idea...what about putting our 'happy memories' here. Here's some of mine...

  1. Bet Gilroy and her leopard skinned one-liners, please bring her back please.
  2. Bet and Alec........their rows were pure gold.
  3. Karen McDonald with Steve, Karen with Steve's mum Liz, they had some real hum dingers didn't they?
  4. Becky. Can she please fly back from her sun-kissed island just to gloat over Toxic T and give her a good slap?
  5. Mike Baldwin and the way her used to yell at the factory girls like they were pieces of sh*t, hilarious. DH used to watch him and say he wanted to be him!

Over to you.....Smile

Hilda- "Woman, Stanley......woman" Grin

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 31/05/2013 20:21

I haven't watched it since leaving the UK in 94, but I will always remember Raquel falling to pieces when Des left her for Trollopy Tanya.
Sarah Lancashire's acting was magnificent that plotline.

cant stand the soaps, theyre all the same.
but when i was a wee lass we only had the one tv in house and mum was an avid corrie fan so i remember (and sat through) the days of:

Ena sharples
Annie Walker
Stan and Hilda (loved them and their muriel!)
Elsie tanner
gail tilsley and her friend suzie.
deirdre barlow or whoever she was married to at the time!

Clayhead · 31/05/2013 22:20

Brian Tilsley's death

Stan

Steph Barnes

KenDoddsDadsDog · 31/05/2013 22:23

Des/Raquel/Tanya
Ken Barlow and Wendy Crozier (vomit)
Mad Carmel stalking Martin Platt
Karen Macdonald was a superb character

Ellenora5 · 01/06/2013 00:25

I SAY I SAY.... Fred Elliot

Maxine and Ashley, what a mismatch but they were great together

Ivy the interfering mother in law from hell

Alma and Mike, ah they should have always been together

Mike in the factory, "get on with your gussets ladies, we've an order to fill"

I could go on forever with this, good thread Smile

badinage · 01/06/2013 00:42

Hilda sitting at the kitchen table after Stan had died, going through his last 'effects' - including his (broken) glasses.

It remains the best bit of acting I've ever seen on television. I blubbed when I saw it 'live' and I've blubbed every time I've seen that scene since.

Jean Alexander was the most wonderful actress.

FunnyLittleFrog · 02/06/2013 09:37

Ah, Blanche! Some amazing one-liners.

Loved the Graham character from a couple of years ago. He told Norris he needed a 'crack hoe' to get the weeds from between the cobbles. Grin

sensesworkingovertime · 02/06/2013 20:03

Ah yes, how could I forget Blanche, she was priceless, so here is a Blanchism Rafflesway:-

Blanche watching Postman Pat with Simon "Early in the morning, when the day is dawning? Your real Postman Pat rolls up about noon wearing a pair of shorts and his breakfast. And if he's not chucking elastic bands like confetti, he'll be rifling through your birthday cards for ready cash".

Blanche on Roy..."He looks like he should be crayoning something..."

Brilliant Smile

CatherineofMumbles · 02/06/2013 20:08

ooh, love those Blanchisms!

sensesworkingovertime · 02/06/2013 20:14

Here's another...Smile...Blanche to Dreary " Good looks are a curse, you and Ken should count yourselves lucky"

I liked Graham too until he shacked up with that oriental friend of Tina's, that storyline made my blood pressure rise, it's going up now just recalling it!

OP posts:
magentastardust · 02/06/2013 22:42

Graham was a brilliant character -they really messed up with that one they would have been better killing him off -the Chinese friend story was ridiculous.

Phylis with her purple rinse , deep voice and unrequited love of Percy sugden that's what I remember as a child watching it!

'Poison'Ivy tilsley and Alma with her collars turned up!
Liz and Jim 'catchyerselfon' MacDonald with they first moved to the street with Steve and our kid his twin.

And the lovely Gary and his wife -what was her name again played by Gaynor Faye -they had twins but she died. Juuuudy ! That was it.

Oh and I used to fancy Des! Him and Derek were always having neighbourly arguments.

Oh and poor Curly , wasn't ever enough for Raquel.

whatkungfuthat · 09/06/2013 22:40

I've posted this before, does anyone remember that evil Tanya telling Raquel she had taken a call about a modelling job for Armani and giving her an address to wait outside for a lift? Turned out to be outside R Marney the fishmonger. Didn't the evil Tanya also bugger off with Bet Lynch's cowboy lorry driver?

ClartyCarol · 09/06/2013 22:48

A bit more recent but I howled with laughter at Gail and Eileen brawling in the street after Todd was revealed to be gay - Gail yelling "Here comes the rest of the Village People" on spotting Jason in his hard hat.

Loved Steve and Karen together but Becky got on my tripe a bit.

I can remember watching the iconic scene when Ken flipped his lid with Deirdre over Mike, I must've been pretty young but I remember being Shock.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 09/06/2013 22:54

Too many to mention.

These days i really like Stephanie Cole. Hayley asked her if she was tired from her journey. 'I sat on the bus, I didn't push it' came the withering reply.

LineRunner · 09/06/2013 23:03

Deidre in jail was rather special.

whatkungfuthat · 10/06/2013 07:39

Judy Mallet. What did she die of? I remember she was pegging out the washing when it happened.

JessicaBeatriceFletcher · 10/06/2013 08:25

Emily Bishop up the tree with Spider to save the Red Rec (speaking of which, we've seen very little of her in recent months. I hope she's OK.)

Has any character ever been as much missed as Blanche? The AA meeting was Corrie gold. Although Stephanie Cole's Sylvia does very nicely, thank you, and is one of the few decent things in it at the moment.

sensesworkingovertime · 11/06/2013 21:01

kungfu I remember Bet saying something classic like Tanya made Cruella de Vil look like Snow White!

OP posts:
FeralStreep · 11/06/2013 21:16

I second "Woman, Stanley...woman." And I blub at Stan's glasses too.

Loved Hilda.

FeralStreep · 11/06/2013 21:17

I cried when Derek died. Poor chap didn't want to be written out, which made it worse... :(

FeckOffCup · 11/06/2013 21:17

Judy Mallett died of DVT I think.

superbadspeller · 11/06/2013 21:21

Eileen and dennis were brilliant.
Sally, kev and denise welch (natalie?)
Karen and steve - i loved suranne jones so much through all the awful 'baren karen' shit from tracy :( bloody brilliant acting.
