Your 'Golden Memories' of Corrie

sensesworkingovertime · 31/05/2013 20:18

As one of the Corrie Queens on the main thread I continue, along with the other MNers to regularly bash our beloved Corrie, then I had an idea...what about putting our 'happy memories' here. Here's some of mine...

  1. Bet Gilroy and her leopard skinned one-liners, please bring her back please.
  2. Bet and Alec........their rows were pure gold.
  3. Karen McDonald with Steve, Karen with Steve's mum Liz, they had some real hum dingers didn't they?
  4. Becky. Can she please fly back from her sun-kissed island just to gloat over Toxic T and give her a good slap?
  5. Mike Baldwin and the way her used to yell at the factory girls like they were pieces of sh*t, hilarious. DH used to watch him and say he wanted to be him!

Over to you.....Smile

I remember Bet Lynch giving a withering look in the direction of either Fred Gee or Jack Duckworth, having been told they were well-dressed.
"I've seen wounds better dressed than that."

Aquilla · 12/06/2013 20:29

Amen to Blanche at the AA meeting. You can watch it on You Tube!

rubyflipper · 12/06/2013 22:31

Ken Barlow finding out about Deirdre's affair with the knicker factory owner. I can't remember his name!

recall · 12/06/2013 22:35

When Tracey was a baby and Dierdre left her in the pram outside the Pub which then collapsed. A mad woman had taken her for a little walk so she was unharmed but Dierdre didn't know and was freaking out shouting " TRAC-EH !!!!!!! TRAC-EH !!!!!!!"

LittleTyga · 12/06/2013 23:55

Doesn't anyone remember Eddie Yeats? The Bin Man - him and Stan were great!

I remember Emily Bishops husband getting shot - It was Shocking at the time Shock

LittleTyga · 12/06/2013 23:56

Ruby - That was Mike Baldwin - his dying scene on the cobbles in Ken's arms was special.

ProfYaffle · 13/06/2013 07:14

recall That's one of my earliest memories of Corrie! It was in 1979, I was 7, no doubt sticks in my mind because my name's Tracey too. I remember laughing like a drain, not sure why Confused

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/06/2013 07:23

All of these, plus Alan Bradley getting run over by the tram, brilliant acting. Mavis and Rita in the Kabin. Alec Gilroy and Bet. Those were the days.

JessicaBeatriceFletcher · 13/06/2013 08:40

Ooh yes, Ernie Bishop getting shot was really a big deal.

eminemmerdale · 13/06/2013 08:43

Judy died of DVT after being in a car accident in a car that evil Terry had cobbbled together out of two cars, thus rendering it very unsafe

whatkungfuthat · 13/06/2013 10:27

Weren't Gary and Judy the 'rough' family at first then got the soap rehabilitation treatment? I can vaguely remember Albert Tatlock getting bashed by robbers.

rubyflipper · 13/06/2013 14:03

Mike Baldwin. That was it!!

Thank you!

SerBrienne · 13/06/2013 19:11

So who else can remember what Mike Baldwin's jeans shop was called, eh?

Double points if you can remember the name that came second (there was a competition in the Rovers. Albert Tatlock won it).

whatkungfuthat · 13/06/2013 20:01

I don't remember the name of the shop but I do remember when his 'wife' turned up at the shag pad he had with Bet

LittleTyga · 13/06/2013 22:32

SerBrienne I didn't know he had a shop - you don't mean the factory before Baldwin's Casuals?

Ernie Bishop - that was it - His haircut! I can still picture him!

LittleTyga · 13/06/2013 22:34

I remember hating Vera and Jack when they first arrived - they were awful - then sobbing when Jack died.

whatkungfuthat · 14/06/2013 07:03

I think I remember Gail and her mate Suzy working in a clothes shop

JessicaBeatriceFletcher · 14/06/2013 10:05

I seem to think back in the very early days, there was a clothes shop called Gamma Garments? Run by Leonard Swindley played by Arthur Lowe (later of Dad's Army) and Emily Nugent (as she was then) as his assistant. She jilted him at the altar.

And wasn't the corner shop run by Maggie Clegg, who was Betty Turpin's sister, prior to Alf Roberts?

SerBrienne · 14/06/2013 18:15

'Twas 'Western Front' (Albert was always banging on about the western front). 'Gear Change' came second.

Bill Kenwright played Gordon Clegg and he appeared in corrie from time to time. Apparently the last time Gordon appeared in the show they recast the part as they assumed Bill Kenwright was too big a fish in the theatre world to want to appear. BK was very upset by this.

I remember when Bet lost her clothes and wore a dress of Annie Walker's back to front, much to the landlady's horror. Also when her adopted son Martin turned up and was horrified by her and didn't' let on who he was.

There was also the story of the monogrammed carpet that Eddie Yates persuaded Annie Walker to buy, this turned out to be an offcut from the carpet used in the local cinema, the Alhambra Weatherfield.

There were also numerous stories featuring the Ogdens, including one occasion when Stan housed a donkey in the parlour. There was Also their stuck up son Trevor who Hilda adored.

Plus the Deirdre Hunt/Billy Walker/Ray Langton love triangle.
