Eyes down for a full house on Monday.

Hopefully we can combine both threads.

In advance, why don't we each post ONE theory, then we can all gloat afterwards about how clever we are Grin

Ahhhh, still thought it was great though. Sometimes all these cop dramas just finish with the murderer getting caught, so it was quite refreshing to see the aftermath, how people dealt with it etc. OC deserves an oscar!

Plinkityplonk · 22/04/2013 22:14

Loved the ending, brought a tear to my eye. Monday nights will not be the same!

diddl · 22/04/2013 22:14

Shame DT is going to leave the force as I could have watched him & OC solving some more!

VenusStarr · 22/04/2013 22:14

I liked it. Especially as I guessed it was Joe :)

I'm not sure how it will return, unless its like some of you have said and its the court case. Not sure series 2 would work as well. Although I really enjoyed it and have been glued to the screen, I think they should leave it at one series.

I always thought I'd make a good detective! Grin

harryhausen · 22/04/2013 22:14

This has been such a huge runaway hit. I reckon a second series will be unconnected to this case, apart from OC being the detective in charge next time.

BadgersNadgers · 22/04/2013 22:14

Was that it? He has a chat to the journo? I thought we'd get a final twist.

RedPencils · 22/04/2013 22:15

So was Danny arguing with the Postman?

ShowOfHands · 22/04/2013 22:15

I don't think the extra clip added anything. Presumably it's their way of letting us know that there will be more Broadchurch.

I suspect Hardy will have surgery and survive it, get another Inspector position and insist that Miller is his DS.

I said it was Joe from episode 1 and I'm a bit torn because the paedophilia angle seems so lazy somehow, just chuck the label at a random man and use it as motive. But then dh works in this area currently and I beg him to lie to me and tell me that the people he deals with are anything other than ordinary folks. That it's obvious and you'd know. Sadly, not. They're just people. It's v random and completely senseless under logical examination.

BaconAndAvocado · 22/04/2013 22:15

Bloody brilliant, can't wait for next series.

Though what form it will take is anybody's guess!

Acting was exceptional throughout.

BadgersNadgers · 22/04/2013 22:15

Maybe they'll both leave the police and set up their own detective agency.

squoosh · 22/04/2013 22:16

I thought it was just ok to be honest, but thought the acting was amazing, especially Olivia Coleman.

shellyf · 22/04/2013 22:16

I hope that Ellie and Alec will set up their own agency to solve crimes :-)

NorthernLurker · 22/04/2013 22:17

I think the 'reveal' was ok though I had been firmly against the idea of it being Joe as too 'obvious'. I think Chibnall should have resisted the temptation to put in the 'how could you not know' line last week. Basically was sky writing LOOOK HERE - unless you thought it was so obvious it must be a red herring - which is what I thought.
When I saw Joe hugging Danny my heart sank but it wasn't a straightforward padeophile story. Much more complex. There was never any 'reason' behind an 11 yr old lying dead on a beach, just all full of human fallibility and error and weakness.

I agree Becca should have known better than to light the beacon. Hussy!

Poor Ellie. I would have thrown up too. In fact I felt pretty sick watching it. BRILLIANT acting from her. Give that woman several awards immediately.

WreckfestAtTiffanys · 22/04/2013 22:17

It was great acting, but I am a bit hmmm at some of the loose ends.

I don't feel satisfied.

ohforfoxsake · 22/04/2013 22:17

I'm not sure how I feel about it. Some bits, like OCs acting, were phenomenal, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire series, couldn't wait for tonights installment, loved all the chat and anticipation on here .... but... but... it feels as though the result lacks some substance. I want there to be more to it. So, the psychic was right. DT proved himself. Joe did it. and? and?

CelticPixie · 22/04/2013 22:17

This was a brilliant series. Although I'd suspected that Tom was the killer for a few weeks I really didn't the pedophilia element at all. A very shocking twist.

@ohforfoxsake

The murdered boys father's mistress lit the bonfire. So that was nice. Hmm

Yes I Hmmed at that...

Tee2072 · 22/04/2013 22:20

I am finally able to admit: BOF? You were right!

I thought the peadophile angle was an interesting one. Quite 'grey'. Danny showed no signs of abuse. Indeed we were shown that no abuse had taken place. Clearly indeed Joe was properly 'in love' with Danny. Even Joe himself didn't seem to understand what the relationship was or what he wanted.

Clearly given time it would have turned into abuse (surely), but it was interesting that it wasn't clear.

teejwood · 22/04/2013 22:21

I know what you mean Northern - AND the production team made two dramas with the same(ish) storyline at the same time Grin

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 22/04/2013 22:22

When joe was hugging I really thought it was Ellie until fan pulled away. Was really shocked - anyone else or did you realise it was Danny?

CelticPixie · 22/04/2013 22:22

This episode was not really about catching the killer, it was about the impact that the revelation had upon Ellie and her family and Danny's family.

OliviaMumsnet · 22/04/2013 22:22

@BOF

Ooh, at the end of the extra scene, it says "Broadchurch will return". Yay!!

What was in the extra scene???

WreckfestAtTiffanys · 22/04/2013 22:22

There was quite a bit of laziness in it though.

The paedophillia
The sleeping tablets
The 'how could you not know'
