Oh Lord, what was that monstrosity?

Cremolafoam · 26/04/2013 21:29

Yay for next week people.
Stay hungry

StuffezLaYoni · 26/04/2013 21:29

Night all, right decision.

LittleAbruzzenBear · 26/04/2013 21:30

Night, see you next week!

beanandspud · 26/04/2013 21:30

Night all, see you next week.

LaVolcan · 26/04/2013 21:32

Tonight's rankings were IMO Natlee, Dale & Larkin.
Agree that Saira had to go, too limited I felt, but gracious in defeat.

FacebookWanker · 26/04/2013 21:33

How do they keep the winner a secret?

lirael · 26/04/2013 22:21

That was honeycomb boiling over I reckon. I tried it once and it has a life of its own

catwithflowers · 27/04/2013 06:45

What I found a little unfair was that John and Greg has banged on for ages about Saira's presentation and portion size but when her food went before the critics, all they wanted was good, authentic Indian food, not stuff that had been anglicised or messed around with. She was very sweet though. Nats to win now.

Gracelo · 27/04/2013 08:27

I came on to say the same thing catwithflowers I think she was pushed into the wrong direction. Ultimately though, I think her problem was that she was doing only Indian food. Shelina (sp?) last year had a much wider variety of food.

I didn't like it with 12 food critics. I expected it to be good but what I like when they have only 3 of them there is the interaction between them, how they are trying to out-snark each other, each trying to be tougher and funnier than the others and then to see their reactions when they really like something unexpectedely. Yesterday we got individual sound bites. I hope they go back to the old format.

StuffezLaYoni · 27/04/2013 09:07

Lirael, I think you're right about it being honeycomb. I must try it one day - they did a skills test with it once, it looked so much fun!

YoniConnect · 27/04/2013 09:24

I agree the 12 critics didn't work - also it seemed unfair on the contestants who were penalised for having an attractive-sounding dish, as that would be chosen more, leaving them more room for error, lateness and dropping-on-the-floor-ness

I know it's entertaining, but I'm not sure what the point of all the tasks is - Larkin has had a mare of a week, with Marcus Sneering refusing to eat one of his courses, and then producing a pretty bog standard lemon tart for the Bond Laydeez, yet he has been put through to the final at the expense of Saira. I suppose J&G must be looking at the whole series, but it seems to me that Larkin peaked at the start with that wonderful miso soup affair with the flowers and funny mushrooms. I would like a bit more clarity and insight into the judging process please! Do J&G get the critics round a table to review the dishes? That would be fun to watch!

LaVolcan · 27/04/2013 10:00

Marcus Sneering Grin Grin

HazeltheMcWitch · 27/04/2013 11:13

Marcus Sneering is indeed a good name. I used to think he was nice, I sympathised with him when evil, spitty, Gordon Ramsey and he had a bust up. But it turns out that he's a twat!

What a princess to not taste the food. He was there to evaluate, it was his fucking job.

  1. You would think so. What was he thinking? OTOH accidentally throwing a failed souffle on the floor so it couldn't be served was probably a good strategy.
  1. Yes, I quite like Dale. He's perhaps a bit shy so it doesn't immediately come across? He had passion - which always goes down well in the Masterchef kitchen.
YoniConnect · 27/04/2013 13:05

And another thing about Larkin's disastrous mango souffle - surely it wasn't his fault that the ice cream had melted - if the order in which they showed the feedback was the same in real life, his dishes were last to be assessed, so how can you expect ice cream to remain cold?

Doesn't excuse the souffle abomination though, or the hash he seemed to be making of the lemon tart pastry case.

GirlOutNumbered · 27/04/2013 14:13

Even My DH who knows nothing about cooking ( or much else for that matter) said 'why wouldn't you have a spare'?
Surely he had enough for 12!

TwllBach · 27/04/2013 14:41

I've just caught up and am only posting on the thread to say I fancy Larkin Blush

LittleAbruzzenBear · 27/04/2013 18:46

maryz I agree with your opinion of Dale, I didn't warm to him at first, but during the last week, I have decided I do like him. He is passionate about what he's doing. Still waters and all that....

Another Larkin fancier, he is nice though twllbach

Davros · 28/04/2013 12:12

This week's Radio Times has a short profile of the four of them and only one wants to work in a professional kitchen! Guess (or buy it!)

StuffezLaYoni · 28/04/2013 13:33

I guess Natalie! :-)

Davros · 28/04/2013 13:40

Correct! You have won a salted carrot

StuffezLaYoni · 28/04/2013 13:41

Oh it's lovely! Just what I always wanted... Can I have a Larkin instead??

LaVolcan · 28/04/2013 16:18

There was a piece in the Guardian about them. It said that it's filmed three months in advance and that the winner therefore has to keep quiet all that time.

Now if it was me, and I am sure that this would apply to Natlee too, I would be so dead chuffed if I won that I wouldn't be able to stop smiling, so everyone would know.

Similarly Dale would be sad about it. Larkin, I am not sure about. I think he's probably given up.
