Because if the baby took a breath when its head was out and then she dropped back into the water babe may drown so you need to either be in it or out of it

Prince the risk is that if the baby takes a breath and then goes in the water, he could draw water in. If they make sure the bum is in the water so baby comes out under water and doesn't take a breath until he is out and up - if that makes sense!

Thank you everyone - that makes perfect sense :)

It actually happened to a friend of mine - she had a home birth, difficult pushing stage and MW asked her to move. She stood up and baby came out all at once and fell into the water. They then had to be blue-lighted in and were in hossie for a week Sad Baby is fine now Smile

WTF I mean - don't know what is wrong with my typing tonight.

That blonde midwife - do you think she's like that in real life or is it for the cameras? She looked like she was staring at camera when she was doing that examination before the adverts!

Not sure with Nicole's sister if she's sqimish or a bit jealous

I like Naomi MW. I'd want her to deliver my baby out of all of them I think.

You know you were saying about the not breathing in water, what happens when just the heads out? They don't seem to cry then, do they wait until their all out?

Getting, apparently they keep the water at the same temp as amino fluid so baby still thinks it in the womb and therefore doesn't draw it's first breath until it hits fresh air

Report
BarnYardCow · 13/02/2013 21:48

I think they are too squashed to cry until they are all out.
