Sometimes they do make little noises and open their eyes etc. but it's the cold air and sudden recoil of the chest (amongst other things) that makes them gasp and cry.

susiedaisy · 13/02/2013 21:52

Then I think its mostly because the lungs are still too squashed for them to draw a breath although my little cousin was squawking when only his head was out apparently so sometimes they doSmile

GettingObsessive · 13/02/2013 21:53

Ah thanks Susie, I thought that must be it.

2cats222 · 13/02/2013 21:54

legoqueen · 13/02/2013 21:55

sailorsgal · 13/02/2013 21:56

I have met a few beauty therapists like her. Grin

enialenagem · 13/02/2013 21:56

I wonder what made her change careers

Lozario · 13/02/2013 21:56

OMG that would freak me out if my baby started crying when just head was out! Shock

ChristineDaae · 13/02/2013 21:58

What is that cord they put on their heads sometimes actually for?

pegster · 13/02/2013 21:59

What a lovely bloke, he's going to be his daughters superhero Smile

Lozario · 13/02/2013 21:59

Monitors pulse I think

BarnYardCow · 13/02/2013 22:00

See you next week!

susiedaisy · 13/02/2013 22:00

It's a clip to monitor the baby's oxygen levels when they are still in the womb

Lozario · 13/02/2013 22:01

Twins next week! Can't wait!

ChristineDaae · 13/02/2013 22:01

Oh thanks, why do the only do it sometimes? Is it the ones who have epidurals/inductions etc where they need more monitoring?

MadameBoolala · 13/02/2013 22:01

I thought Lucy was lovely. so much better than a shouty midwife.

Me23 · 13/02/2013 22:05

the clip on baby's head is a fetal scalp electrode it monitors the baby's heartbeat. Reasons it is used are usually because the ctg is not maintaining good contact so keep losing the heartbeat.

StarlightMcKenzie · 13/02/2013 22:17

Has she just been refused an epidural for 6 hours? Shock

StarlightMcKenzie · 13/02/2013 22:17

Sorry, watching on catch up!
