The glory that is Frasier

DS2 has recently discovered Frasier which means we have been watching an awful lot of it. I'd forgotten how unbelievably funny and clever it is - it never assumes that the audience is stupid, the acting is consistently brilliant (ridiculous English Moon brothers aside). I'm getting a bit obsessed with the celebs who voice the radio call-ins - list here.

Any other fans?

Does nobody love Niles as much as I do?

I do I do I do! I could watch it all day :o

NuzzleMyScratch · 04/02/2013 21:57

One of my favourite phone ins is Eric Idle's 'scorpions in the fed ex package'.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 04/02/2013 22:00

I absolutely love Frasier! The Niles & Daphne story never ever gets old no matter how many times I watch it. My favourite character is Eddie though Grin

Cheddars · 04/02/2013 22:03

I've just watched it all through again. My favourite episode is where he has an argument with his neighbour and the neighbour drops an American flag over Frasier's window. Absolutely classic. Grin

Oh I love Frasier. I spent a fortune on the boxsets of each season during my maternity leave and absolutely revelled in watching them all. There's just so many great episodes, I don't know how you'd pick a favourite. But I almost wish that Daphne and Niles had never got together. It lost something after that.

gingermcflea · 04/02/2013 22:07

Love Frasier!
I'm less keen on the Niles/Daphne storyline in latter seasons, but the first 5 seasons are gold. The last season is pretty good too.
Favourite episodes?
I really like the Two Mrs Cranes (atrocious accents aside!), the Ski Lodge, Ham Radio, Mixed Doubles, Matchmaker, Impossible Dream, and anything involving Bebe (his agent), Martin and Sherry, and anytime Lilith makes an appearance.

Hassled · 04/02/2013 22:08

Fans! Huzzah! I can't find the clip on YouTube but the scene that makes me giggle every time I think of it is Niles talking about the narcissistic soprano who keeps singing "Me me me me meee".

It's just so clever - I can't think of another sitcom (possibly Big Bang Theory?) which assumes a level of intelligence from the audience to that extent. They never pander, they never play to the lowest common denominator, and I love the writers for that.

And yes, Eddie is clearly the best character.

Oh Frasier. My role model.Grin.
I think I've seen all of them, in repeat as well.

Best bit, when Lilleth visits and is asking if he would father another child with her, no strings attached:

F - but how would that work? would we have to actually have sex?
L- no. I could freeze your sperm.

pause....

F - that doesn't answer the question.

And all of his ex girlfriends turning up. As well as his mother.

Adore it.

I was off sick from work today so the highlight of my day was watching it on C4 this morning.

Hassled · 04/02/2013 22:11

I'm so glad we never met Maris. I loved the almost-sightings that we had, but I'm pleased we never actually met her.

Anything involving Martin's chair.

It has to be one of the best comedies ever ( except that dodgy bit when Jane Leeves was pregnant so they made Daphne fat).

I love how the brothers wind each other up and their snobby attitude.

I just love it lots.

booge · 04/02/2013 22:16

Another fan here it always makes meGrin

Princesspond · 04/02/2013 22:16

I love it, can't believe I had no idea about the celebrity phone ins. Thanks for the list. Now I have an excuse to re-watch Smile

HumphreyCobbler · 04/02/2013 22:27

I didn't know about the celebrity phone ins either! Thanks for that.

Loved it all.

Pan · 04/02/2013 22:28

another newie to the celebs phoning in. What a list.

Hassled · 04/02/2013 22:29

Princess - the only one I've ever actually identified at the time is Bradley Whitford who isn't even on that list - he's Josh from the West Wing.

My all time favourite comedy. Although it is SO much more than a comedy. It has everything - pathos, bathos, drama, irony, slapstick, drama. Just utterly brilliant. And it doesn't date. It's still as funny/touching/entertaining now as it was when it went out. Pure class. I had no idea about the celeb phone-ins either.

Pan · 04/02/2013 22:33

didn't know it was showing. series link coming up. thanks v much.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 04/02/2013 22:34

Oh, yes! I watch two episodes nearly every night. One of my all time favorites is the one where Frasier and Niles are so over-the-top excited to think that they might be descended from a Russian royal, but it turns out that their ancestor was the scullery maid.

mathsconundrum · 04/02/2013 22:35

Hail cork master. The master of the cork. He knows which wine goods with fish or pork.

Sallystyle · 04/02/2013 22:35

Love it.

I am also blessed to be friendly with one of the writers who is totally awesome.

NuzzleMyScratch · 04/02/2013 22:37

That's why they have actor photos during the end credits at the end of each season Wink

I love them all (later seasons a little less), but particularly The Matchmaker, Roz and The Shnoz, Three Valentines (but only Niles' scene), Dinner at Eight, A Midwinter's Night Dream, Frasier Crane's Day Off.... and many many more!
