Propess is bloody horrible stuff. I had it last year, I much preferred the pessary I had 8 years before that, and that's saying something. I had the propess in for 6 hours and those 6 hours were agony. As soon as they took it out it was a massive relief, despite being about 5 cms by then. Horrid stuff, and it wasn't explained properly to me at all. Feel so sad for the homebirth woman too. She's so strong.

sailorsgal · 16/01/2013 21:25

Do paramedics deliver babies, could just have 999 on speed dial. Grin

Orenishii · 16/01/2013 21:25

Poor woman - it really seems like they're annoyed with her for wanting her HB. But maybe that's because i am a bit bitter about my HB plans going awry thanks to unhelpful MWs.

ScubaSarah · 16/01/2013 21:27

eagleray will pray for minimal snow and good gritters for you!!

Poor GD woman, it's nowt to do with diet, is it? Not her fault I'm sure Hmm

My heart is breaking for Latvian lady all alone too HmmHmmHmm

sailorsgal · 16/01/2013 21:28

MN044 you're totally right about Propess - it took 24 hours before anything and then straight in with contractions 2 mins apart!

gregssausageroll · 16/01/2013 21:30

This is quite a demanding couple. Bed too high?

TandB · 16/01/2013 21:30

Eagleray - I've changed my mind. Don't have a homebirth. They produce irritating little buggers who sleep through 6 days of the week and wake moaning about 15 minutes into OBEM. EVERY WEEK WITHOUT FAIL.

Opening the door and going "Oy! You! Shh!" is an accepted sleep-training method, yes?

ScubaSarah · 16/01/2013 21:32

Demanding for sure. It I think she may kill the attractive man downstairs. Did you see that death stare Shock

ImKateandsoismywife · 16/01/2013 21:33

I'm so glad I had my dh and doula with me when the hospital were saying they were too busy to send a mw for my hb. My wonderful doula called them and told them we would be staying home whether they sent a mw or not and suddenly they managed to find one! I feel so sorry for her having no one to advocate for her, shes so vulnerable and alone.

eagleray · 16/01/2013 21:33

Thanks Scuba - the impending weather has brought out some sort of animal-like panic in me! (and the b*stard council are refusing to grit my street even though it is really busy and hellishly dangerous in snow)

Orenishii - I remember reading your posts on threads last autumn, and felt so disappointed for you re HB. Congratulations on your baby though, and hope you don't feel too bad about it. I realised myself today when facing a cancelled HB and a medicalised birth instead how emotional I felt about it all Sad

Feeling very sad for Sasha the HB girl - she is really brave

What's propress? I had a pessary 18months ago - is it likely to have been that??

StarlightMcKenzie · 16/01/2013 21:34

My Homebirth outcome is currently dribbling in my ear and blowing raspberries down my neck, yes YOU you 7 month vampire!!!!!

StarlightMcKenzie · 16/01/2013 21:35

Why are they hooking her up?

StarlightMcKenzie · 16/01/2013 21:36

My induction was a nightmare too. Straight into double peaking contractions that where so so painful! DD1 was back to back and stuck, so despite the contractions I just wasnt dilating.
Took 27 hours of pure pain to get DD1. MW suggested it could of been the Propess that made her turn during the labour as she was fine before. Was a nightmare with forceps, vontouse, epi and 3rd degree tear after shoulder dystosia. Horrible experience!

legoqueen · 16/01/2013 21:39

Famous last words...

alisarah · 16/01/2013 21:39

I gave birth without a birthing partner ( by accident), but just realised, poor Alexandra has to take baby home all alone -- now that is really harsh, brave woman.

Thanks for the stories about the dribbly, squealing HB outcomes Smile

MrsDevere - thanks for the ball reminder - will go and sit on it now (have been very naughty and ignoring it)

sweetkitty · 16/01/2013 21:41

Interesting re homebirths. I've had two and it was the community MWs who were oncall and delivered my babies. Nothing at all to do with the hospital. When in labour I phoned a number and 2 MWs arrived, should be one but they knew me, knew I had fast labours, had been out to my home, knew what I wanted. That was invaluable. We are only "allowed" a HB between 39-42 weeks though.

legoqueen · 16/01/2013 21:41

These midwives are lovely though...
