Digital channel CITV steps back in time during the weekend of the 5th and 6th January 2013. From 9:25am through to 6pm on both days, the channel will showcase some of the best children's programming from the heyday of CITV. Of note is the absence of anything since 2006 - the year the CITV channel was born, but also the year when ITV largely abandoned children's programming.

Here's what you can expect:

Saturday 5th January 2013

9:25am Mike and Angelo (1990)
9:50 Super Gran (second episode, 1985)
10:15 Wizadora (last episode, 1998)
10:30 T-Bag (1987)
10:50 Engie Benjy (s3, ep1, 2004)
11:05 The Raggy Dolls (1994)
11:15 Puddle Lane (1986)
11:35 Count Duckula (1991)
12:00noon The Sooty Show (1986)
12:25pm Art Attack (1992)
12:40 The Big Bang (1997)
1:00 Finders Keepers (1991)
1:30 Fun House (1994)
2:00 Knightmare (1993)
2:30 Fraggle Rock (1983)
3:00 The Worst Witch (1998)

4:30 Press Gang (first episode)
5:00 The Tomorrow People (1992)
5:30 Children's Ward (2000)

Sunday 6th January 2013

Looks amazing. And shows how far kids TV has fallen in this country.

Murder I am so jealous that you have the worst witch DVDs. Envy

In primary school I was obsessed with it and the books, I dressed up as Mildred one Halloween in school and had the entire dining hall gang up, turn round and shout "worst witch" pointing at me over and over until the teachers managed to get them away (was bullied anyway so wasn't new).

Still love it though. :o

Sharky and George the crime busters of the sea!

Channel 4 I think on a Sunday morning.

I have some very very old videotapes with episodes of the Muppets recorded off the tv from the late 70's - I wish they'd rerun those although noone would know who the special guests are anymore. I think I've got ones with Sly Stallone, Farah Fawcett, another Angel and a very young Elton John.

Similarly loved Fraggle Rock - sparked a lifetime love of lighthouses for me

I should add it wasn't our video recorder - my grandfather was very into his gadgets (before the word gadget was invented!) and it cost him an absolute fortune.

I'm such a child! I remember most of them.
I'll be tuning in for Fraggle Rock, Children's Ward, Art Attack, Fun House, Finders Keepers.

Knightmare used to scare the beejeezus out of me.

Better tell DP there is Count Duckula too. He loves it.
Xmas Grin

Seriously?! It never used to be on Netflix! Goddamn it, we cancelled our Netflix subscription!

It's American Netflix I have, I assumed it would be on the UK one though... Get Netflix back and switch to American!

So much good TV on it, have just finished watching the last season on "Bones". :o

There is loads of old TV, even dragon and duck tales! Fraggle Rock, The Muppets, Pyjanimals.:o

MurderOfGoths · 17/12/2012 14:24

Ah, doubt it's on the UK one then, we deliberately looked for Fraggle Rock.

I'm a bit gutted there's no Round the Bend. Me and DSis loved that. No Jamie and His Magic Torch either.

And who picked The Riddlers (always crap) over The Dreamstone - aka most underrated UK cartoon ever?

Get the US one, it's way better apart from the lack of Red Dwarf...

Report
MurderOfGoths · 17/12/2012 14:27

We have the whole Red Dwarf collection on DVD anyway Grin

I am too old for most of these Xmas Sad

Now if they were to do a BBC of the 1970s weekend - Bagpuss, Mary Mungo and Midge, Clangers, Magic Roundabout...

I have to admit I've read these singing lots of different theme tunes Xmas Blush

I'm starting to remember bits of other programmes I used to watch, although I think they're probably BBC. It used to be that we'd watch CITV until 5pm then turn over for News Round and Blue Peter before Neighbours. Then it changed, ITV stopped being interested in children's programming and the BBC got better and Sky had a children's magazine programme too.

dylsmimi - I missed your post before, it wasn't but I loved that programme too! That was Out of this World.

Have just messaged Murder about this but does everyone remember "Are you Afraid of the dark" and "Goosebumps"?

What channel were they?

Report
MurderOfGoths · 17/12/2012 15:05

I don't remember Goosebumps being on TV, but I do have most of the Goosebumps books in ebook format for when DS is older

there used to be a programme as well about a boy who lived in place called eerie i think. cant remember what the show was. it was american. lots of freaky scary stuff used to happen to him and his friend.

i also used to watch a programme where a girl got covered in a hazardous chemical and was able to turn herself into water and slop about the house and upstair. i think she was called Alex mac but i dont know if that's what the show was called or not.

Santa Don't know if I remember that one but sounds similar to another American one I watched on Disney when I was younger, it was called "So Weird". Remember that one?

Goo changing into one was "The Secret World Of Alex Mack". :)

FrillyMilly · 17/12/2012 19:07

Wasn't goosebumps and Alex Mack on nickelodeon or possibly trouble? The one about the boy who live in Indiana was Eerie Indiana I think. I used to love sky TV kids shows like clarissa, Sabrina, sister sister, Kenan and kel, hang time. Would love to be able to watch them again.
