I have been waiting for this for a very long time! :-)

I also didn't think they turned you to stone just sent you back to a time before you were born. Do they not feed off the energy of your life you had left to live or something like that?

Mrsjay · 23/09/2012 14:26

I thought they could turn them to stone Confused I do know Amy was starting to turn in an episode last series, yes i knew they transported people Oh im confused now

OodHousekeeping · 23/09/2012 14:39

Amy thought she was converting, not sure she actually was.

Mrsjay · 23/09/2012 14:48

her hand went a bit funny didn't it, sally sparrows friend was transported wasn't she in Blink and her grandson delivered a letter,

OodHousekeeping · 23/09/2012 14:55

The hand thing wasn't real. Next weeks trailer highlights the travel back in time so possibly a key point or Moffat screwing with us

hackmum · 23/09/2012 15:10

Someone commenting on the guardian blog has come up with a pretty good theory about what happens to the Ponds in the next episode, but I don't want to share it in case it's true and I spoil it for anyone. But if you're interested, the blog is at www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2012/sep/22/doctor-who-power-of-three

edam · 23/09/2012 15:15

Interesting but the reviewer talks complete codswallop about the Ponds being the best companions - that's Donna, every time!

Mrsjay · 23/09/2012 15:17

The ponds well amy is a rubbish companion I can't even get into that raggidy man nonsense Hmm

edam · 23/09/2012 15:18

Sorry, he says the most unusual companion relationship between Amy and the Doc. I dunno, I can't remember many of the old Who ones in huge detail, they didn't go in for so much complexity in ye olden days. Leila just used to run around without many clothes on, which really added to the enjoyment of my Father. Grin

Mrsjay · 23/09/2012 15:20

do you think in ye olde days we just watched Doctor who and didn't try and analyse is at much I bet people just enjoyed it Grin

Jux · 23/09/2012 15:50

Yep, MrsJay, as far as I remember we just enjoyed it, as did the Parents. When it was over, mum would go and start on supper and dad would start on the process of talking us out from behind the sofa, en shoo us upstairs to get into our pajamas! I doubt very much that adults spent much time in analyzing DW, but we kids would play DW quite lot for the rest of the w/e - unless we already had a good game going, in which case we'd incorporate bits of DW plot into it.

RustyBear · 23/09/2012 16:06

I don't remember much analysing, but then I was only 7.

We were actually watching the Willoam Hartnell story Planet of the Giants just before this episode, and what struck me most about it was how static it all was - they had long shots or close ups, but no zooming or panning - it was like filming a play on a stage, no 'reaction shots', all very simple, just a basic goodies/baddies story.

Though there were stories with more complex issues in those days - remember the Drahvins?

Mrsjay · 23/09/2012 16:09

yes it was just that but i spose technology and all that they have to sexy it up a bit, DD saw an old film on scfy channel and she laughed like a drain at the old master I said well he is supposed to look like a baddie you know where you are then Grin

confuddledDOTcom · 23/09/2012 16:11

Still not watched it as was out doing crafts with my kids and their cousins for my brother's birthday presents (why does Aunty Condfuddled always have to be called in to do crafts with 8 children??? And more to the point, why does it cost Aunty Confuddled £70???) anyway, I have tried to watch it on BT Vision and it hung seconds after arriving in 1890, tried again and same thing. I just tried on my laptop and it hung in the same place!

Can someone have a look on iplayer and see if it's just me?

OodHousekeeping · 23/09/2012 16:47

We watched on iplayer this am and it was ok.

NoHank · 23/09/2012 17:06

Probably completely wrong but the first thing I thought of when I saw next weeks trailer was that they get sent back in time to when River was in New York as a child and some how manage to stay with her / get to bring her up for a time as a family. As I said, probably completely wrong (I usually am although I did guess Amy was a flesh person in that episode - first and only time I was right about anything)

It is probably just wishful thinking on my part as I still haven't got over them losing River as a tiny baby and not having that time with her

edam · 23/09/2012 17:08

That'd be lovely, hank.

OodHousekeeping · 23/09/2012 17:54

That would actually be quite nice nohank

NoHank · 23/09/2012 18:48

It would be nice wouldn't it. I still remember when that teeny tiny scrumptious baby Melody turned into a giant puddle of vanilla milkshake. I sobbed, sobbed I tell you.

I've never got my head around the fact that they never got her back. Yes, I know she was River and ultimately all right in the end, but still. I'm thinking maybe they are sent back in time, Doc finds them and they are able to go back to their own time but make the choice to stay. But as I said, I am often always wrong so feel free to ignore!

Jux · 23/09/2012 19:42

He said that Alice in Wonderland thing about going forward to get back (or the other way round Confused ). Anyway you have to go in the opposition direction to the one you want.

Is that my imagination?

edam · 23/09/2012 19:45

Didn't he say 'through the looking glass' when they were in the lift, ready to jump through the timey-wimey thing to the spaceship, or is that my imagination?

MinnieBar · 23/09/2012 20:09

He def said 'Through the looking glass'.

Rory's hair was awesome this ep [shallow].

Does River say something about breastfeeding Aitch? Or SAHMs? Wink

maddiemostmerry · 23/09/2012 20:14

I'm hoping they will end up saved on the library back up system (or whatever it was) with River and her friends. Somehow don't think it will be that happy though.

snapespeare · 23/09/2012 21:05

The river library computer thing was explained as 'a fixed point in time' but we all know those can be tinkered with these days, so I fully expect river to be snapped up & saved (not just as computery bits) sometime soon... Or for her consciousness to be downloaded into someone else who has lost her personality.

As an aside, I always thought laoise murray would make a smashing younger river, but that thought has been erased with mels turning into RS.

Well I was quite disappointed by The Power of Three (is that the right title?) A lot of nothingness, though I did enjoy the Lethbridge Stewart connection.
