I haven't watched the first two series but after watching the bridge I've been fancying another Scandinavian type series.

Will I be totally confused because I've missed the other series?

Sorry, but there's only one Wallander and thats Krister Henriksson in the Swedish ones shown on BBC 4 with subtitles. KB is jut not Wallander for me.

stargazy · 09/07/2012 19:49

Like Kenneth Brannagh usually but much prefer the Swedish Wallander.Haven't read Mankell's books so not sure which is the most accurate interpretation of the detective's character.Brannagh's acting is superb as usual, but I just love the whole team and how they interact in the original. And Swedish Wallander is complex and reflective without being so damned dreary!

trickquestion · 09/07/2012 20:24

Agree KB is just not Wallander, but he is fanciable - particularly his lack of lips.

johnworf · 09/07/2012 21:02

I love it. The photography and scenery is fab too. Kenneth Branagh has grown on me so much. Years ago he was a complete tosser imho.

culturemulcher · 09/07/2012 21:02

Love the Swedish versions (Nordic Noir slut addict), but really this Wallander is better than this gorgeous <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=swedish+wallander&hl=en&sa=X&rlz=1T4GGHP_en-GBGB426GB426&biw=1249&bih=537&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=6Guse6PQAOHmIM:&imgrefurl=www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/6947587/Kenneth-Branagh-interview-for-Wallander.html&docid=C6KVFxyC0uxR2M&imgurl=i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01552/kenneth_branagh_1552564c.jpg&w=460&h=288&ei=8jf7T-OMOIi40QXf_8SJBw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=923&vpy=234&dur=1323&hovh=178&hovw=284&tx=147&ty=155&sig=115751124384224278406&page=3&tbnh=164&tbnw=222&start=29&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:29,i:202" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this Wallander ?

culturemulcher · 09/07/2012 21:04

I think KB is Wallander trickquestion just a more thoughtful one - as someone far more elequent than me put it upthread, he's more crushed by thw horror of what he has to deal with. And so yummy

OliviaLMumsnet · 09/07/2012 21:04

I am loving all the scandi stuff (just finished Killing 2 Sarah Lund's other jumpers)
I didn't realise this was based on scandi stuff (only saw a brief promo after the tennis, hardly ever watch live tv these daysBlush)
Can someone please give me the 411?
Thanks

redlac · 09/07/2012 21:10

God I LOVE the Bridge! Really enjoyed The Killing and just started Borgen. anyone know when or if The Bridge 2 will be aired?

culturemulcher · 09/07/2012 21:11

It's great Olivia - it's the series that kicked it all off. But start with the Swedish ones first. Then try Branagh as a compare and contrast and lust a little exercise.

OliviaLMumsnet · 09/07/2012 21:11

so what should I start with?!?

AnnaMosity · 09/07/2012 21:19

I liked borgen

culturemulcher · 09/07/2012 21:20

Start here!

culturemulcher · 09/07/2012 21:21

Or rather, here Blush

professorpoopsnagle · 09/07/2012 21:31

I didn't understand it. It was all in English. I am used to subtitles by now.

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 09/07/2012 21:38

I loved the bridge. I'm glad there is a second one coming :)

I'm also enjoying Borgen too.

And 'tak' for the links culture :)

I'll look out for the Swedish version.

varsagod OP

(okay, okay, I cheated and looked it up)

culturemulcher · 09/07/2012 21:59

Which drama do you think's best?

For me:

The Killing - Series 1
The Bridge
Wallander / Borgen about the same. Still love them, though.

OliviaLMumsnet · 09/07/2012 23:11

@professorpoopsnagle

I didn't understand it. It was all in English. I am used to subtitles by now.

ROFL Grin

noddyholder · 09/07/2012 23:20

Nowhere near in teh league of Borgen etc

cybbo · 09/07/2012 23:49

I fancied KB

But find me someone I dont fancy these days

TanteRose · 10/07/2012 02:30

only ever seen the KB Wallander - loved the way its spoken in English, but when they write/read stuff, its all in Swedish (like the e-mails on his computer etc.)

YankNCock · 10/07/2012 07:23

I never saw the first two series when they were on, but discovered them on catchup TV (think series 2 still available on Virgin if you have it).

Because we almost never see live telly, I only knew about the 3rd series because of everyone tweeting about it. Have it on good authority that it contains fields, wind, and miserable brooding, just like every other episode. Grin

Must not read this thread too carefully before I watch it on catchup!

NellyBluth · 10/07/2012 08:30

Cybbo, you sound like me. Virtually every show or film I watch has at least one bloke in it that I think, "yep... I would" about Blush

noddyholder · 10/07/2012 10:31

Grin menopausal women alert! I suppose you could hold onto his jowls.............

Randomkaz · 10/07/2012 12:02

I blame IKEA. Mind you, I loved Borgen. Maybe Georg Jensen is to blame for that...
