Is this the best drama on bbc since state of play?

I have to admit to being partial to Lennon James, but I think they're all great, even including Neil morrissey.
I just hope they don't cop out over the remaining episodes as bbc dramas often seem to.
Anyone?

oh i am wanting gates to get off

even so - and now whatshername has outed herself as AC12 or 10 or whatever it is. in order to smash into gates' office.
now what.
and i thought last night's was going to be the final,

diddl · 18/07/2012 08:18

Well I was on the fence about Gates but not any more!

Was a bit "meh" about the "laddering"-but then when he tried to cover up that Jackie had murdered someone-to hide his affair with herHmm

Also-could he realistically afford the school fees?

But that he was willing to turn over the AC blokeShock

And Fleming-can´t decide which "side" she´s loyal to!

slartybartfast · 18/07/2012 08:23

he is very strange i must agree.

so now he admits she gave him money.
he admits they had an affair >

why doesnt he just admit he was there when she was killed and was hit on the head

but then i spose there wouldnt be a story

diddl · 18/07/2012 11:51

Why was Jackie killed btw?

And "Dot"-if he was so in debt-could he have sorted it out just with overtime?

Was he bribed to leave the surveillance early?

cocolepew · 18/07/2012 11:58

I think Gates is just admitting to Jackie paying the fees to explain why he was in 'debt' to her, conviently leavingout the affair. In reality I think she was paying the fees or giving him money.
He's very good at telling half truths to explain things.

I thought Jackie was killed becaise Arnott had been to the salon where the money laundering was going on.

cocolepew · 18/07/2012 12:00

Diddl I was thinking Gates paid off his debts
really. He didn't need to be bribed to leave because he 'owes' Gates.

diddl · 18/07/2012 13:20

"I thought Jackie was killed becaise Arnott had been to the salon where the money laundering was going on."

I also thought that-but then was it done to implicate Gates to force him to stop the "Arnott" investigation?

cocolepew · 18/07/2012 13:37

Yes you're right diddl. I admit to being a bit confused myself! Blush

wanttomakeadifference · 18/07/2012 13:44

I though Jackie was killed because Arnott had approached her at the market and asked her to come in for further questioning. So the 'baddies' knew she had been rumbled. Also in hindsight there was dodgy stuff going on at the market so the fact that Arnott was there would also have worried them.

I may be wrong though- am quite confused Grin.

jeanjeannie · 18/07/2012 13:45

I was wondering if the best friend (Neil Morrisey) was working for the Scottish guy as it was on his say that they clocked off early - therefore allowing a window of opportunity for the boys to be killed on the estate. Am very confused, especially as I thought last night was the final one Confused

wanttomakeadifference · 18/07/2012 13:52

Jean- good theory it was his idea.

diddl · 18/07/2012 13:59

I thought that "Dot" & Deepak(?) were doing the surveillance & it was Dot´s idea to leave early.

No one actually told them to did they?

diddl · 18/07/2012 14:00

Yes, maybe Jackie was killed as the police were getting too close?

cocolepew · 18/07/2012 14:02

Dot got a phone call which we now know was Gates telling him to go. He told Deepak that the other surveillance team were coming and they should go because of overtime.

cocolepew · 18/07/2012 14:05

Maybe the baddies ( I sound about 5!) didn't trust Jackie if they knew she was carrying on with a senior police officer.

diddl · 18/07/2012 14:13

But was it really Gates telling them to go??!!ConfusedGrin

wanttomakeadifference · 18/07/2012 14:21

Coco I don't recall that phone call! I must concentrate more Grin.

Do we know for sure it was Gates who made the call- or do we just have 'Dot's' word for it? If it is the latter- Dot could be a baddie too who was making it up (joining you in sounding 5).

cocolepew · 18/07/2012 15:00

You're not as bad as DH he watched the first episode and I watched it later on record. When it showed Fleming to be undercover DH said "oh I missed that". How exactly? Confused

slartybartfast · 18/07/2012 15:01

aah, perhaps it was scottish one telling dot to leave early
and thus a double bluff
i dont remember a phone call. Confused

slartybartfast · 18/07/2012 15:02

i think dot was coerced into telling them about the call actually and think he was lying aobut the call., possibly

northender · 18/07/2012 16:10

Glad to see everyone else watching is as clear about it as meGrin. I have enjoyed it so far, though it seems to have got too convoluted for it's own good. I've missed some bits too which doesn't help.
Does the bloke with the body now in his freezer have anything more to do with the plot than just someone who's been taken advantage of by nasty men? (sounding about 5 too cocolepew!)
The end last night was too gory for me. Dh was out and I then went round double checking the doors!

diddl · 18/07/2012 16:19

Yes the end was also too much for me.

Was going to do some gardening but just thinking about secateurs made me winceBlush

cocolepew · 18/07/2012 17:16

You lot are wimps! I take it none if you watch Dexter Grin

cocolepew · 18/07/2012 17:17

I think the man with Downs Syndrome is juas being taken advantage off. I actually yelled at the tv that the body was in his freezer Blush.

Icelollycraving · 19/07/2012 07:59

I couldn't watch the last bit. Did he die or just get horribly maimed?
I always wonder how filming these kind of roles affects children/the downs young man?
I felt it was completely inplausable that he would go to meet without back up or informing anyone of the location.
