Homeland is over.

CBA watching anything that is ON the telly, need something we can watch when we feel like it, not when it is on.

Suggestions?

If you have any scifi suggestions that'd be awesome. There is a hole in my life since I finished Battlestar Galactica.

The Killing- the Danish one...riveting.

jeee · 24/06/2012 19:21

Might be worth looking into netflix. For £6 a month you can have a fairly wide choice of TV series. I'm not on their payroll, honest.

Trills · 24/06/2012 19:27

I had netflix for a few months. Watched the whole of Coupling, some of Misfits, a few other things, then got a bit bored.

The 1981 BBC series of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited. Still as good after over 30 years.

IceCubes · 24/06/2012 19:31

I've just finished True Blood and Heroes, now I'm on to Prison Break and LOVING Wentworth Miller! Grin

Trills · 24/06/2012 19:32

Are you sure there's no nostalgia in your assessment of it?

(for example I feel quite strongly that Dirty Dancing is shit unless you were 14 or younger when you first watched it)

We got a bit fed up of Heroes after 3 seasons or so.

I loved Battlestar Gallactica. Loved it.

Have you seen Deadwood? Rome? Sons of Anarchy? Aside from BSG, The Wire and The West Wing these three have been my favourite boxsets.

I love scifi so will be watching for suggestions. Has anyone seen Caprica - the Battlestar prequel?

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/06/2012 19:35

I have :
Goodnight sweetheart
Star Trek Voyager
Doctor Who Series 2 - 6 (David Tennent and Matt Smith)
True Blood

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/06/2012 19:36

And '24' is good

NellyBluth · 24/06/2012 19:36

Another vote for True Blood.

I'm guessing you've seen The Wire and The Sopranos?

Deadwood
Justified
State of Play (the UK series not the US film)
The Killing

I'll think of more...

lovetolurk · 24/06/2012 19:37

The Wire.

TheWalkingDead · 24/06/2012 19:39

I second the Danish version of "The Killing". We've just finished season 6 of Dexter - maybe not everyone's cup of tea though.

Also:
Fringe
True Blood
Game of Thrones

tiredteddy · 24/06/2012 19:42

True blood
Dexter
Game of thrones
The good wife
The Tudors
Merlin Grin

Trills · 24/06/2012 19:42

I have reasons for not wanting to watch The Wire.

It goes like this.

Everyone who likes it says "people who don't like The Wire are stupid/philistine/whatever"

I have a feeling that I might not like it.

Therefore I am better to just not watch it, so you can disapprove of me for not watching rather than disapprove of me for having poor taste.

That and, as I just said, I have a feeling that I won't like it.

Saw some of Caprica. It was OK.

Game of Thrones I've seen (and read all the books).

I've seen some True Blood (and read the books, which are not very much the same at all) but I don't think DP would be interested.

I've seen Dr Who, when it was on TV.

If you'd like to tell me why something is good rather than just listing that'll vastly improve my chances of looking at it :)

Breaking Bad.

Fantastic.

Yama · 24/06/2012 20:31

Oh yes Breaking Bad. We have watched the first two series. It is well acted, you really feel like you get to know the characters. The brother-in-law cop would win the funniest character in a boxset award. It is very darkly funny. I think many people would dislike or rather disapprove of it.

Deadwood - again well acted. I feel like I learned a bit about America. About the foundations on which it was built. I know it is a work of fiction. I loved the language - just breathtaking at times.

Rome is just a horny romp through history.

Sons of Anarchy - another horny romp. Not good for my feminist sensibilities but glorious escapism.

SoleSource · 24/06/2012 21:26

Roseanne

Sex in The City

Aboutlastnight · 24/06/2012 22:36

I love the lawyer in BB.
"you think you need a criminal lawyer - what you really need us a criminal lawyer"

He deserves his own mini series.

Yes BB is violent, and main character not likeable particularly. But it's very tight and well written. Something unbelievable made believable.

CrackedNipplesSuchFun · 24/06/2012 22:40

West Wing
House
Ugly Betty
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Wire
Sex and the City
Califonication
Rome
ER
Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Nuff said!

dreamingbohemian · 24/06/2012 22:43

Peep Show and Spaced for laughs?

Futurama for sci fi and laughs

The second series of GoT should be out soon on DVD Grin

Deadwood is amazing. Great acting, great writing, interesting themes and stories. Phenomenal swearing. You haven't heard anything like it.

CrackedNipplesSuchFun · 25/06/2012 08:45

Oooo Spaced, forgot that! Great show.

kerstina · 25/06/2012 09:47

No Angels- Was flicking through channels last night and caught this. I had forgotten how good it was.

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/06/2012 10:01
