Anyone watching?

He's younger than my Mum. His Dad was a bastard and he loved his Mum so where o where do his misogynistic views come from?

In Holby City Powell played a nurse who became the Chief Executive overnight.

There seems a metaphor in there somewhere. Possibly, Robert Powell you are unfuckingbelievable, and not in a good way.

Yama · 12/05/2012 20:56

Yeah, I've only really glanced at Holby City over my Mum's shoulder during a visit. He always looked so damned sincere though. I guess it was cognitive dissonance - the Jesus thing really coloured my view of Mr Powell.

Didn't watch Waterman but do want to watch Lulu (explain her face Wink)

carernotasaint · 12/05/2012 22:26

Wonder why Dennis" younger daughter Julia (younger than Hannah) didnt contribute to the programme.

AnyFucker · 12/05/2012 23:17

Because Hannah is a Fame Junkie of course

she has done the Hello mag shoots, the "I had an awful marriage" interviews, the weight gain-weight loss sagas, the public workouts with the arse wobble followed by very-thin "I am the happiest I have ever been" exploitative bollocks

that is why (IMO)

carernotasaint · 13/05/2012 00:23

Ah so im guessing her sister doesnt buy into all the crap.

AnyFucker · 13/05/2012 00:24

who knows ?

LineRunner · 13/05/2012 12:51

Yama, I'd manage to look sincere if I jumped from £25k to £125k in one easy interview.

badtasteflump · 14/05/2012 09:53

I think its hilarious actually that he appears to have gone into this interview having been given no advice whatsoever on what to say and how to say it - he couldn't have made himself sound worse, or less genuinely sorry, if he'd tried.

The sad old twat has stitched himself up completely - no more than he deserves Smile

Homer29 · 14/05/2012 10:29

Julia's in Australia

badtasteflump · 14/05/2012 10:30

As I would be if Dennis Waterman was my dad Grin

Homer29 · 14/05/2012 10:39

'I bet he would wet himself if faced with a real hard man situation. I bet he believes he really is a no nonsense, tough, maverick copper'

If you actually listened to the interview, you would recall that he stated quite specifically that he goes out of his way to avoid confrontation, and that he definitely is not the hard man that he acts. Key word there - 'acts' - he's an actor!!

Trust Mumsnet to go all feminist yet again over this topic. Anyone who actually listened to the whole interview will have heard that:

a)the reason he gave for hitting Rula was that she was more intelligent than him, and being drunk, he lashed out

b)he is deeply ashamed of having done so

Sating that Rula's superior intelligence was the reason he hit her is definitely not the same as saying that it was her fault.

I am reminded of the line in a Paul Simon song 'still a man hear's what he wants to hear and disregards the rest' For man read woman in this context

badtasteflump · 14/05/2012 11:17

Homer So does that also apply to him saying

'It's not hard for a woman to make a man hit her' Hmm

Personally, despite having read about the interview before watching it, up until the point where he started talking about DV, I thought he didn't seem as bad as he has been made out to be. But it was downhill from there.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 14/05/2012 11:36

'Goes all feminist'

I am reminded of the Saxon song 'Piss off'

This is not the first time I have seen him interviewed. Its not the first time I have seen him spout bollocks and the 'lovable scamp holding his hands up to being a naughty boy' act doesnt wash with me.

Homer29 · 14/05/2012 13:04

I'm amazed by the psychic powers of some Mumsnet posters:

'He kept saying he was sorry but he really wasn't'
'll bet he is absolutely shite in bed'
'I bet he would wet himself if faced with a real hard man situation. I bet he believes he really is a no nonsense, tough, maverick copper'
'He gives the impression he has a really feeble dick'
'I would say his shaking hands would belie his protestations of not having a problem with alcohol'

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 14/05/2012 13:17

its all the oestrogen that gives us super powers

badtasteflump · 14/05/2012 13:31

Don't want to answer my question then Homer? Hmm

I'm not psychic, but I can read body language. He was "leaking" information about his true feelings throughout. Holding his hand over his mouth when he said he was ashamed of hitting Rula Lenska...not one bit! He still feels he was quite justified. And tellingly, despite having spouted all that - when asked if there was anything he wanted to say to her - when any genuine person (or any celeb with a decent pr company), would have instantly said "sorry", he did not. Instead, shifted uncomfortably and offered up "good luck?".
I do like watching this programme - I don't care for Piers Morgan, but he does manage to give a real view of the people he has on. I didn't think much about Dennis Waterman before, and I think he's quite unpleasant now, but I thought the interview was very interesting.

Homer29 · 14/05/2012 15:39

Sorry Flump - I thought that was a rhetorical question - what exactly was it you wanted to know?

AnyFucker · 14/05/2012 18:56

SBM, it was the theme toon

AnyFucker · 14/05/2012 18:57

Homer, did you understand at all that defending his comments make you a defender of domestic violence ?

I am sure you didn't want to give that impression, did you ?

Yama · 14/05/2012 19:01

I wonder if someone on Dennis's team has googled him after the episode went out and then leaped to his defence. This is not the only thread a defender of Dennis's has popped up on.

Dennis's beheviour was indefensible.

Dennis's justification of his behaviour is reprehensible.

OP posts:
Yama · 14/05/2012 19:04

And if you search for Homer29's posts, you will only find that they exist on two threads about ..... you guessed it - Dennis Waterman.
