If you actually listened to the interview, you would recall that he stated quite specifically that he goes out of his way to avoid confrontation, and that he definitely is not the hard man that he acts. Key word there - 'acts' - he's an actor!!
Trust Mumsnet to go all feminist yet again over this topic. Anyone who actually listened to the whole interview will have heard that:
a)the reason he gave for hitting Rula was that she was more intelligent than him, and being drunk, he lashed out
b)he is deeply ashamed of having done so
Sating that Rula's superior intelligence was the reason he hit her is definitely not the same as saying that it was her fault.
I am reminded of the line in a Paul Simon song 'still a man hear's what he wants to hear and disregards the rest' For man read woman in this context
