Is anyone watching this? Can't believe it has been made tbh, blatantly treating the disabled as a freakshow.

I don't find that it has been set up to laugh at people. They seem to have made quite an effort to get to know the participants and let them put across their views, rather than just film them acting "kooky" a la Simon Cowell shows or asking them embarrassing questions.

Oh I hope she has not stood Luke up Sad.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/04/2012 21:53

unchartered..I suspect it will have a positive ending :)

I love Luke and Lucy. And Richards mums house Envy

AmberLeaf · 03/04/2012 21:59

Just about to watch it on ch4+1

susiedaisy · 03/04/2012 22:00

I'm not getting the impression it's been made to laugh at people, but i agree the title is unfortunate.

Voidka · 03/04/2012 22:01

I have Sky+ed it but an nervous about watching it now. Its all a bit raw today :(

stressheaderic · 03/04/2012 22:01

Richard's mum had a few bob.
I hope it worked out for Luke and Lucy- they seemed to have a spark.

I enjoyed this, I'll watch next week. Stupid title though.

hazeyjane · 03/04/2012 22:03

I notice the narrator is Sally Philips, whose ds has downs syndrome,

I missed the actual programme, but skyplussed it, and have a feeling I won't be able to watch it.

Sparklingbrook · 03/04/2012 22:08

I watched with DS2 (10). He asked loads of questions, and we had a talk about Tourettes, Autism, and Aspergers.

I thought it was good.

ShowMethePony · 03/04/2012 22:10

Ha yes I was also thinking that's what I want the kitchen floor to look like at Richard's Mum's!

I think with the title yes its stupid but if you watch the title sequence the little cupid is shooting off the "Un" bit meaning they are now more able to date. Eg Penny saying at the end that now she has had a date, she feels she can go on more and that people are interested in her, even though that date wasn't a great success in itself. I'm not trying to defend it, just I can sort of see how someone felt it might be ok, although obviously it is actually pretty crass thing to label people.

AmberLeaf · 03/04/2012 22:14

I really like Luke.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 03/04/2012 22:20

Penny is far too defensive I think. Totally understandable, butnot a good vibe to give off on a date.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 03/04/2012 22:22

Aw I love Luke.

serotoninbutterfly · 03/04/2012 22:28

I love Luke. His stand up was brilliant and he seems really down to earth about his Tourette's. I was in two minds about watching due to the title but am glad I did now, it was quite sensitive and informative Smile

AmberLeaf · 03/04/2012 22:30

He ate her food!!!

pigletmania · 03/04/2012 22:45

I thought that it would be about the sad muppets you get on dating sies, the ones who talk about themselves all the time, anoraks, the absolute idiots. The title is misleading, what's to say that those with disabilities cannot find love Hmm

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 03/04/2012 22:45

I have to admit I have refused a second date on the grounds that he ate one too many of my chips! BlushGrin

ripsishere · 04/04/2012 07:32

Me and DD watched this. It was good for her to see that the gurning thing (that she has fortunately stopped) relates to real people.
I didn't like Lucy. I think she was just enjoying the novelty value of Luke.
Both me and DD agreed that we would go out with him.

Sparklingbrook · 04/04/2012 07:41

Yes, I thought it was good for DS2 to watch. He didn't understand why Luke couldn't stop his tics and swearing.

i asked him if he knew what Autistic meant. He said 'autistic people are good at things that most other people aren't'. Our friends DS has autism so that's how he formed his opinion.

I thought Luke was lovely and see what you mean about Lucy rip.

pigletmania · 04/04/2012 10:23

That's a bit Hmm rip, so just because luke has Tourette's he can't find a nice girl! Mabey she saw past that for the person underneath

pigletmania · 04/04/2012 10:27

He is not a child, but an intelligent man

Spero · 04/04/2012 10:34

Surveys consistently show that 70-80% of people would not consider a relationship with a person who had physical disabilities. I don't know the statistics for mental disabilities, but suspect the same.

So I am glad this kind of programme is being shown, to let a little light in for the able bodied and neuro typical.

Whenever my (well meaning) able bodied friends gently chide me for being gloomy about the chances of disabled people finding love, relationships etc, I have to keep pointing out that I am the only disabled person they know which makes their patronising reassurances ring rather hollow.

feuerandwasser · 04/04/2012 11:17

Me and DH didn't want to watch because we thought the title was too nasty and from the advert it looked like it was going to be a right pisstake....but may give it a go today.

Mrsjay · 04/04/2012 16:45

I forgot this was on is it on every week ? channel 4 do have controversial titles for their programmes didnt they do a perfect mother programme with a Shock title but people watched, I
guess the people who took part felt undateable because of various medical problems or conditions , I am a person with a disability and i often got over looked when i was younger for prettier healthier girls , although i am married now . people sometimes cant look past the disability ,

Mrsjay · 04/04/2012 16:47

although im married now makes no sense Confused dont know why i put that
