Is anyone watching this? Can't believe it has been made tbh, blatantly treating the disabled as a freakshow.

Ah thanks. I missed the beginning.

UnChartered · 03/04/2012 21:31

she was really cruel, just running out on Richard like that Sad

BerryCheesecake · 03/04/2012 21:31

Richard's mum seems lovely :)

blabalalalablabla · 03/04/2012 21:33

Do they dating company disclose their 'conditions' etc?

I really like Luke. He seems like a lovely guy and I think people could get over the tourette's if they were open minded enough. I think Richard needs to find a likeminded lady. His mum is lovely though.

SwedishEdith · 03/04/2012 21:34

She wasn't cruel. You don't know how it's been edited plus she might have told him she could only stay for x hours. She must have has an idea about the programme being made. I thought she was nice.

LottieJenkins · 03/04/2012 21:34

I thought so too. Wilf has a gf at the monent. She is two years older!!!!!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/04/2012 21:35

I have met several neurologists who are very like Richard

UnChartered · 03/04/2012 21:35

ok, the programme makers made her look cruel

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 03/04/2012 21:35

I really don't like the premise of this programme. Yes, look at the difficulties faced in a sympathetic way, but the title says it all. Designed for people to laugh at. Angry

LittleAlbert · 03/04/2012 21:37

Was reading th Autism Society's reaction to this programme today, and it was quite positive. They thought the title was unfortunate but the content was good.
I don't feel compelled to laugh at any of them. I think it's sensitively done. And not patronising either.

StuckUpTheFezziwigTree · 03/04/2012 21:37

I don't think she was cruel. Better than leading him on.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/04/2012 21:37

Yes I agree realhousewives

I've been to that bowling lane- it's in Queensway! Smile

UnChartered · 03/04/2012 21:39

i felt really sorry for Richard though, i suppose i know how hard we have to plan transisitons for DD that a simple 'i'm off' would have her overthinking and hurting for hours

BrightnessFalls · 03/04/2012 21:41

My friend had the idea of a dating website for people with learning dissabilities. She is in that field herself and reckons there's a real gap in the market. I think it will be a minefield, though. Im recording it as as its had such good write ups in the papers. Shame about the title.

nenevomito · 03/04/2012 21:42

Well I'm watching it and the programme is good.

Its a shame they feel the need to give it such a crap title though as it has put people off and possibly attracted the type of audience who want to laugh. If I'd not seen the NAS review I doubt if I'd have watched it.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 03/04/2012 21:43

Am slightly changing my mind. Thought maybe that receptionist had just turned up to laugh at the guy with tourette's but actually she seems very nice.

LottieJenkins · 03/04/2012 21:43

Wilf and I have been to Queensway! Glad Lukes date went well.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 03/04/2012 21:43

Yes agree the title doesn't reflect the content.

LittleAlbert · 03/04/2012 21:44

I really felt for Richard's mum when he was telling his 'date' about how much he loved his mum. He seemed very vulnerable then Sad

GlitterySkulls · 03/04/2012 21:45

i also thought the title was awful :(

the woman who went on a date with Richard, Dawn, has mild learning disabilities, so i doubt she was trying to be cruel. probably just thought "this is no good, i'm going" & went. Richard's feelings about it might not have even crossed her mind.

nenevomito · 03/04/2012 21:47

I do find this hard to watch as it does bring home that DS is possibly going to be dependent on me for life. That has a whole load of worries attached for his future.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 03/04/2012 21:48

Yes, with you there babyheave :(

i'm going to have to stop posting and watching

too raw for me - might find it on 4OD another time

sorry for spoiling the thread

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/04/2012 21:49

I'd forgotten it was on, they were discussing it on Radio 5Live this afternoon and the consensus was that it was a good show but with a very distasteful title, however that Ch4 probably wouldn't care so long as they got the viewing figures, a bit like Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.

I wasn't sure whether I wanted to watch it or not, I have an 8 year old DS with Aspergers but I don't want to add dating to the list of things I worry about for him just yet, still feeling a bit sensitive following diagnosis.
