I was taken down the corridor (theatre) for a ventouse attempt. One, because it gave me access to a spinal and two, they knew there was a problem with the baby not descending and were preparing for needing to do more than ventouse iyswim. As it was, dd's heart stopped during the manual rotation attempt (after the ventouse) and they could go straight to emcs, possibly saving dd's life. I know now I have a twist in my pelvis and can't birth vaginally. There was a reason why she wasn't descending and theatre was a very good precaution.
I also had PROM with both dc and speculum examinations up to the point of being in theatre.
