OP posts:

Crikey PF, that was brave. It took me 4 months to look after my forceps. It wasn't pretty Sad. 2 more DCs and 6 years later (both totally normal births) and things are a lot more normal down there, thankfully.

worriedsilly · 09/02/2012 14:21

Mine was purple.

2nd time it was purple but extended down left leg Confused There was a hint of greeny peacock type colour.

Went quickly though. I hope. Maybe I should check again!?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/02/2012 14:24

mine was OK but my coccyx and back and hips are wrecked and still have big probs

worriedsilly · 09/02/2012 14:27

Sad for you Fanjo.

I was in pain after dc2, but chiro sorted it for me. Bit annoyed actually, i desperately wanted to deliver on my back as i was most comfortable, but made my self go on side to help pelvis.

Didn't work at all. I was comfier after first delivered in legs up position Confused

Have you got a good sensible chiro?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/02/2012 14:27

no, i havent got anyone, hoping to be about to see a decent physio for whiplash problems i am having so maybe they can help sort my back out too

catgirl1976 · 09/02/2012 14:29

it healed very well i have to say and i do wonder if that's because the gynae did it rather than the mw

he seemed a very precise sort of man...........

:( fanjo. my friends coccyx broke and it souded awful..... hope yours gets back to normal :(

AmberLeaf · 09/02/2012 14:31

OldRaver Wow! your little boy is the double of you as a little girl!

EquestrianStatue · 09/02/2012 14:32

The MW who delivered DS1 (bad shoulder dystocia) was AMAZING. As soon as he was OK and breathing she gave me a HUGE hug and I have never been so grateful for anything in my life.

She did the booking appointment for my pregnancy with DS2 and I cried all over her Blush

worriedsilly · 09/02/2012 14:32

Hmm. I'm a bit Hmm about physio. I think it can work if the issue is pure muscular tightness weakness etc.

I think where a child has bombarded it's way through your pelvis and knocked big tough ligaments and joints out of line, a good sensible chiro will pop them back in about 4 treatments.

Mine also does horses. Blooming brilliant.

I'd suggest you do both. But with chiro you do have to go back, and back and back. Then suddenly things start 'holding' and you can go less often.

P.S. have no evidence to backa ny of this - just my own experience.

bobkate · 09/02/2012 14:49

Reading all this has made me quite weepy again. I was in bits watching last night. I thought she ( Dawn ) was incredible, makes me feel a bit silly that I thought my labours were so awful. Although I suppose everyone has their own pain thresholds and according to the midwife at my first birth, mine was very low Sad. Worriedsilly, I got the notes from my first labour, do you think I can get them for my second? And if so do you know who I would write to to request them? I so wish I'd had a lovely midwife at my 2 deliveries, I think a bit of empathy and encouragement would have made all the difference. Instead I just got talked to as though I was making a huge fuss over nothing and to get over it basically Sad.

worriedsilly · 09/02/2012 14:57

You should write a letter to the 'Head of Midwifery' at the hospital you delivered at.

Enclose your name and date of birth and say you'd like to review your notes as you would like a sense of what happened to you.

Bob's your uncle.

bobkate · 09/02/2012 15:10

Thank you worried, I think I'll do that. I did get a copy of the notes from my first birth, and it certainly helped.

worriedsilly · 09/02/2012 15:11

we won't mention fanny

bobkate · 09/02/2012 15:11

Meant to put that I asked for the notes before I left hospital with the first, I just forgot with the second.

Why do I want another baby so bad? DS's birth was horrendous. I've always underplayed it.
I think I just blocked it all out.

yummytummy · 10/02/2012 16:31

that shoulder dystocia birth was very similar to my first with ds. the very long delivery failure to progress going to theatre etc. and then forceps. then that awful wait for a cry and not being able to hold him straightaway.

brings it all back feel very very distressed now. i just wondered how common it is? no-one seems to have had an experience like mine and think i am going on about how bad it was. with nasty tears and a very very long healing time. also am guessing by most peoples estimations i did have a very bad time of it? was that a very bad birth? feel like i have to justify it a lot as will want elcs next time no question.

there is no way on earth i will try a 'normal' delivery ever again. still feel very upset about it. really should know better than to watch this program.

WentworthMillerMad · 10/02/2012 17:29

Hi yummy - just read the whole thread and you did have a very bad birth.
If I were you I would not consider a 'natural' birth in a squillian years! Go for that section with bells on! Maybe watching this has cemented this in your own mind as well.
I seriously question why dawn was not scanned at admission - I was with all 3 of mine. All around 9lb 6. Surely they could have seen huge baby with tiny framed woman - hello!

littlemisslozza · 10/02/2012 22:44

yummy yes it is a very bad experience you had. I also had shoulder dystocia when having DS1 and it was terrifying. Subsequently had DS2 and DS3 by ELCS which were calm, civilised, wonderful experiences. Consultant was very supportive of my choice to have ELCS, for me the risks of trying for a vaginal birth again outweighed the risks of having an ELCS. Good luck next time.

MilkNoSugarAndAShotofWhisky · 12/02/2012 14:20

Rabid that comment is absolutely vile

splashymcsplash · 12/02/2012 20:13

I had recorded this and wasn't going to watch it until I saw that it was about shoulder dystocia.

My dd was born with shoulder dystocia, and while it was nothing like as bad as what was shown in the episode, it is still something that I am coming to terms with 16 months on.

I was watching the episode crying. Poor woman.

Just a note to those pregnant women out there though: shoulder dystocia is very rare, occuring around 1/200 births. Most are nothing like as bad as what was shown as well.

I loved home births as a midwife. Yes it would be lovely to see a home birth but doubt we'll get lucky enough for that.

CecilyP · 13/02/2012 11:35

Following from missmaviscruet's post, this was actually the second incidence of shoulder dystocia shown in this series of OBEM. The other was in episode 2 (the one with the bossy blonde midwife) and, in that case, the baby was delivered very quickly.
