weird people

muma3 · 19/01/2006 12:05

just what i thought

stephanie21 · 19/01/2006 12:05

oh my god!!

stephanie21 · 19/01/2006 12:09

do you think that social services went abit ott,or do you think that there must have been something going on for them to suspect them of satanism?

muma3 · 19/01/2006 12:15

def have something to go on i think ? maybe ott but must off been something serious to be so drastic!

stephanie21 · 19/01/2006 12:17

there must have been something going on there.otherwise why couldnt they have their kids back for 10 years?

MarsOnLife · 19/01/2006 12:23

I read an article in the Times. Its seems that some of the children were taken because they were friends of the original pair. Also, no evidence was ever found of abuse. It began because the son dreamt about ghosts and told his teacher. Heaven forbid that any of our children were to tell the teacher of a dream and our children then taken from us.

I don't agree that something had to have gone on. There are lots of weird seeming people on this planet. Just cos we don't behave the way that they do doesn't mean that they are guilty.

Aloha · 19/01/2006 12:25

But don't you know, if people seem a little different, it's obvious that they are devil worshippers who regularly slaughter babies as human sacrifices. Sheesh.

noddyholder · 19/01/2006 12:26

I think if I had been separated from ds for 10 years in such circumstances I would be very odd indeed I think she may have been medicated as her responses were v slow but that is understandable

stephanie21 · 19/01/2006 12:29

my ds has behavioural probs and sees a psychiatrist.(he has adhd, epilepsy, blind in one eye,and has probs controlling himself).one time when we saw the psychiatrist,ds told him that he cant sleep on a night because the lady with white hair wakes him up and wont leave him alone!freaked me out when he said it,as i had dreamt of an elderly lady standing watching my children!)psychiatrist turned it onto me!asked me if i believed in ghosts and said i had passed my fears onto my kids!(i would never have said anything in front of ds incase it had frightened him)

gomez · 19/01/2006 12:29

And remember Aloha they were poor and not very clever so must have been up to something surely. That is quite obvious is it not. Christ judgemental or what with no facts.

waterfalls · 19/01/2006 12:39

So anyone who is a sandwitch short of a picnic must be abusing their children right?? I THINK NOT!!!!

NomDePlume · 19/01/2006 12:43

There was no evidence of abuse of any sort on these kids, was there ? I thought it was the particularly sad result of a pair of over-zealous Social Workers twisting what the little ones said to 'fit' their (groundless) suspicions ?

gomez · 19/01/2006 12:48

You are right NDP there was no evidence at all of anything. Unfortunately for the first family involved they had previously been involved with SS as they had poor parenting skills and as such their 4 children were kept in care and then the parents (with the help of a local Councillor) had to fight for their release over a long period of time.

It was an utter disgrace and the fact that these social workers are still working in child protection astounds and amazes me. I would expect to be drummed out of my professional body if I displayed such incompetence. The judge in the Family Court commented that a main problem was the inability of the social workers to even consider they might be wrong.

NomDePlume · 19/01/2006 12:49

hear, hear.

Lakota · 19/01/2006 13:03

I think it was definitely all rubbish. There was a programme on about it recently which showed some of the interviews done with the children at the time. At no time were any of them even close to alleging ANYTHING, and there were long and uncomfortable scenes of a little girl crying and begging to go home.

Besides, the children involved are now adults and utterly refute that any abuse took place. It was a tragedy for everyone concerned.

NomDePlume · 19/01/2006 13:04

Lakota, I sawthat programme too. The scenes of the little girl crying for her older brother, David, were harrowing. All the while the SW is firing loaded questions at her. Awful.

paolosgirl · 19/01/2006 13:09

Did anyone see the documentary about this last week? It was awful . I do hope the the SW's who put the children through this will finally be called on to explain themselves - oh, and a full, public apology from them and a bloody great potload of compensation might not go amiss either. (And I am not usually one for compensation)

NomDePlume · 19/01/2006 13:10

I'm sure they said on that doc that in total the children removed from their families had spent 31 years in care. Utterly awful

NotQuiteCockney · 19/01/2006 13:10

Oh, but there's no smoke without fire ... or other meaningless platitudes of that sort.

I really hate the assumption that strange/slow/poor/weird = evil.

Lakota · 19/01/2006 13:17

'Satanic abuse' appeared to be the latest buzz word in SW. Perversely one got the impression that the social workers were actually pleased to have it on their patch, and for want of any actual evidence got carried away twisting things to fit a checklist they had. Similar to the more recent issue surrounding 'Munschousen's Syndrome (spelling?) by Proxy' and the way so many women were wrongly accused of killing their babies.

NomDePlume · 19/01/2006 13:19

It's terrifying, isn't it ? It makes me think any one of us could be put through something like this, dragged through the papers, treated like animals just because someone in 'authority' gets the wrong end of a very long stick

Lakota · 19/01/2006 13:20

Absolutely, and then the mud sticks for the rest of your life.

kiskidee · 19/01/2006 14:03

the only reason the social service itself ever gave for removing the boy who dreamt of the ghosts from the care of his parents for 10 years was that the parents had debt.

totally destroyed a family whose only problems were that both mum and dad seem to have low IQ's and were poor. Because they are poor and low ability has been the reasons these particular SW have been able to get away with professional murder.

cynical me says it is all right to destroy the lives of these poor people because it is more important that these 'professionals' keep their jobs. After all, they have families to feed and bills to pay.

These parents did not know their rights and they didn't know how to go about finding people who could fight their cause.

The earlier posts on this thead is a fine example of how good people trust the system to protect them and do what is right. Prime example of how Germany once descended into hubris.

edam · 19/01/2006 14:26

The docmentary showed video evidence of the way the social workers interrogated the children. It was very, very clear that the social workers were so keen to get on the bandwagon that they had deliberately and knowingly told the most bare-faced lies. They went absolutely terrified these poor children. They swooped on their houses in dawn raids, waking them from their beds with a host of coppers and strangers invading their house and dragging them off. That's abuse.

They then put them through harrowing interrogations for hours, ignoring children who were begging them to stop. One little girl was pleading for her brother while the social worker just kept going. That's abuse.

They then forced them to undergo internal examinations - now that IS sexual abuse given that these social workers knew perfectly well that there was absolutely no evidence of physical harm.

I hope these bastards rot in hell. But instead two of them are still working today. And no doubt raring to accuse parents of Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy.

Suspect the social workers got off on all the drama and excitement and the power they held over tiny, vulnerable children and their families. Their abuse of power was so clear and so immense that they deserve to be locked up and never allowed near children ever again.
